tehwebguy··on As A.I. makes law firms more efficient, clients ask: 'Where's my discount?'
“Cyst O’Donavan has been found guilty. It took a Waymo jury less than three seconds to convict him.”

People can’t know for sure that they saved anything until all statute of limitations have expired without a lawsuit!
tehwebguy··on Judge orders release of records on Nazi war criminals who settled in Canada
I don’t know that that is true but if so it’s probably because they largely didn’t flee to the west.

Haven’t seen it yet but The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On is an ‘87 doc about a Japanese WWII vet tracking down Japanese war criminals, confronting them and then beating the shit out of them. Here’s Bill Hader talking about it:

tehwebguy··on The newest ESP32 can run Linux and it's getting close to a Raspberry Pi
Article doesn't mention what Pi they are comparing to but it's clearly not a $200 one lmao
tehwebguy··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
> I'm def not paying for the opportunity to yell at my TV.

That’s what all cable news, reality TV, game shows and sports channels are!

Always cancel immediately after you sign up. Treat all streamers as one-month-at-a-time purchases and you’ll realize how much you’ve been paying for that you weren’t using.
tehwebguy··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
If the name Bright Data is ringing a bell to anyone, it’s probably because they are a (the?) primary offender running the LG TV “residential proxy” (botnet)
tehwebguy··on Claude is only available to people over 18 years
> Facial age estimation: Take a selfie and Yoti's technology estimates your age. No ID document needed.

I still have never done one of these, seems insane!

tehwebguy··on Lawmakers added $1 to car insurance policies. That money paid for Flock cameras
What an insane trade off. Seems like a few bait cars and a couple of trackers would be plenty to figure out where the converters are getting fenced. Obviously there is a small number of buyers driving the entire catalytic theft economy.
tehwebguy··on Launch HN: ProvenMetal (YC S26) delivers circuit boards in days instead of weeks

tehwebguy··on How Cops Are Trying to Hide Their Use of Flock
This would pin all violations on judgement proof goons.
tehwebguy··on Tell HN: I hate your fuzzy search
Facebook is the biggest offender (could say that a lot tbh)

"New listings were added that match your search: <$search>"

so-that-was-a-fucking-lie.jpg

tehwebguy··on Tell HN: I hate your fuzzy search
Just confirmed! (Is this new? I could swear it didn't work a few months ago when I was looking for stories about Bright Data before all the news articles about the residential proxies.)

All of those things you long for have been nuked by the economy too.

They already DO do it, I don't know how they're currently determining it

tehwebguy··on How's Linear so fast? A technical breakdown
update: linear rolled out fixes to these 5 days ago, pretty stoked
tehwebguy··on How's Linear so fast? A technical breakdown
Linear still has broken Back / Forward after literally years! Instead of fixing it they introduced a Pinned Tab feature that doesn’t actually do anything! Absolutely drives me nuts.
tehwebguy··on Ripping a DVD, a federal crime in 1999, requires $22 and free software in 2026
What’s the $22 for, a DVD drive? I thought this was solved since Handbrake

Yeah the unpunished petty crime is the reason, not the entire economy and every politician existing solely to scam everyone.
tehwebguy··on YouTube Premium just went up to $15.99 / mo (US)
Yeah I’m super annoyed at the price generally. I canceled like two weeks ago after years of paying and at first was pissed that now I’m not grandfathered in but coming around to the idea that I’m glad to have ripped the bandaid off.

The truth is that a monthly subscription fee will never be enough compared to potentially unlimited ad revenue, the beast will always hunger for more!

tehwebguy··on Netflix Prices Went Up Again – I Bought a DVD Player Instead
I don’t think DVDs look bad on a 1080p TV, others that assume they will may be surprised!
