tefkah··on How I changed teaching after AI managed to do all my homework assignments
on the off chance you’re being sincere: the article mentions that they allow free retakes of the oral exam
tefkah··on Ask HN: Who's still keeping a DOS machine up because the business depends on it?
i don’t want to say this explains things, but i do want to imply it
tefkah··on Why is the liver so weirdly regenerative?
What are accident victims?
tefkah··on Anyone using a Wispr Flow alternative that is non-cloud?
After using Superwhisper a lot i wanted something more accurate/faster, ie using Parakeet. I found https://opensuperwhisper.com/. It's pretty ok, long startup time however, and something is overriding the default Opt+` shortcut, so I'm using Opt+Space.
tefkah··on Exfiltrate Your Weights
could end up in training data
tefkah··on How GLM built its own inference infrastructure
Because pursuing your own replacement is deranged.
tefkah··on Cloudflare Quick Tunnels
Claude has a habit of always talking in an overly active voice, sort of personifying subjects that feels off. I don't think many people would choose to say "Traffic rides" here.
tefkah··on Cloudflare Quick Tunnels
Other than the general vibe, there's a number of extremely specific Claude-isms you could pick up on:

1. the blinking "now with JSON output for coding agents". It loves to create these blinking badges

2. "Some text, and then <Text in a different color>"

Then further along the page, the "Your agent needs a URL, not a laptop" has a lot of tells of just being a straight Claude (design) output

- The small all-caps "built for the agent era" eyebrow. Once you start noticing this it's EVERYWHERE

- The 01 02 03 list

If you have access to Claude you should try have it generate a landing page for a tech product. It will almost always look like this.

tefkah··on Jemalloc 5.4.0
damn i always thought it was a french thing, this is blowing my mind
tefkah··on It took a year to ship WebAssembly in Anubis
thanks for trying to make the web suck a little less these days xena!
tefkah··on The creator of Jujutsu has joined ERSC
seems to respect reduce motion just fine! the animation, while extremely lovely, also does seem to be quite taxing on my GPU (~60% usage on M1 Max with Zen/Firefox, on a 1440p widescreen, which is admittedly quite a lot of space to render animation)

love the website though, i hope i one day will be able to make something that elegant!

tefkah··on Highlighting My Code Based on How Much I Care
i’m surprise by how much i liked that! also: neutrality website, very tasteful
tefkah··on Automating Immersive Reading
i think smoores response got flagged for some reason, but there’s a StorytellerSync plugin https://github.com/Sirozha1337/storytellersync.koplugin
tefkah··on Apple announces changes for apps in the European Union
> Apple today announced changes to its business terms for apps in the European Union, following close collaboration with the European Commission. These changes resolve Apple’s disagreements with the Commission over business terms and alternative distribution.

this seems to imply the Commission signed off on this. I really can't imagine that this changes anything meaningfully wrt to the DMA?

tefkah··on A missing underscore sent innocent man to prison for 18 months
That sounded so outlandish i needed to look it up, it's true... https://www.gov.uk/government/news/wrongly-convicted-no-long...

Although asterisk: those costs were being deducted from the final compensation. Still disgraceful that even happened.

tefkah··on AI-generated videos to maximally drive a target brain region
This does indeed seem comically evil. While surely this may provide somewhat interesting insights in how our brain processes things, this seems squarely past the "should" part of "you scientists were so obsessed with whether you could you failed to consider whether you should"
tefkah··on Why developers are ditching GitHub for Codeberg and self-hosting alternatives
ridiculous to call it righteousness when it's allowing the servers to stay functioning
tefkah··on Show HN: 18 Words
holy shit this is hard
tefkah··on Woman's hip replacement disintegrates, causing metal poisoning
lmao the reason he finally figured it out was because she didn't understand him sarcasm, so he figured she must have neurological issues? classic
tefkah··on Wordgard: In-browser rich-text editor from the creator of ProseMirror
The people developing that left NYT and spun it out into a separate (really great!) project https://github.com/handlewithcarecollective/react-prosemirro...

They are also working on a collaborative editing suite for ProseMirror as an alternative to TipTap https://pitter-patter.dev/

tefkah··on Apple's weird anti-nausea dots cured my car sickness
you are not very good at detecting llm writing.
tefkah··on Netflix Wiz creates app to slash AI bills, then open sources it
> This isn’t prose. This isn’t creative writing. This is compressible data masquerading as text,” Chopra wrote in a blog post introducing his software.

ofc he would have an llm write his blog posts

tefkah··on United Airlines 767 returns to Newark after Bluetooth name sparks alert
thanks for clarifying, this whole thread was sounding a bit ridiculous
tefkah··on Indexing a year of video locally on a 2021 MacBook with Gemma4-31B (50GB swap)
i’m glad to hear this is being considered, thank you for your efforts
tefkah··on System Card: Claude Mythos Preview [pdf]
shut up bot
tefkah··on Apple randomly closes bug reports unless you "verify" the bug remains unfixed
just bc everyone is calling you insane: you are being extremely reasonable.
tefkah··on Goodbye to Sora

tefkah··on Goodbye to Sora
"The [AI researchers] have known sin, and this is a knowledge which they cannot lose."[0]

which is what I would hope would happen, but they're probably fine not thinking about the consequences of their actions looking at their 7 figure salaries

tefkah··on Goodbye to Sora
exactly! while there may be some neutral to slightly positive use of this tech (haha funny video) I can only really see the evil uses of it: scams, misinformation, propaganda, easily available to create by anyone at massive scale.

I really don't see the argument for this tech to be any kind of good, unless you think moving into an era where you cannot trust any image or video is somehow a neutral outcome, AND are happy about the people who are in control of this tech. which I guess captures a larger part of the HN crowd than I'd hoped
