teddythetwig··on Taking stock of startup innovation in the Netherlands
It depends what you consider a startup. Off the top of my head I can name a few start-up companies that are operating in Wageningen, but in industries that don't receive as much attention as sexy computer start ups.

I disagree with your statement of "No entrepreneurial mindset" Perhaps when it comes to VCs, they don't really get it, but I find that since capital is so hard to come by, the quality of startups here is much higher than in the US.

Haha, if it wasn't so heavy on mentioning Rockstart, I would have assumed it was paid for by SBC. They are much more about selling themselves outside of The Netherlands. I've heard some people saying that Rockstart is trying to open an SF office, but I'm not sure if I believe that.
teddythetwig··on Bicycle Parking Guidance System in Utrecht
The bike parking lots are generally located in extremely convenient places such as next to train stations, or near large squares. In the Netherlands, there are a lot of places that you can't park your bike, unlike in the US where you can just lean it against a wall. As you can see in the video, most of these parking lots feature the double level racks. It was hard for me to understand why this was necessary before I moved here from the US, but if you ever travel to the Netherlands, you will be amazed by the amount of bicycles. Being able to fit 2x as many bicycles in the same square footage is 100% necessary.

It took him a whole year to hit max level?
teddythetwig··on What the Flux?
Agreed, although for a different reason. When you start using React.js in your frontend, you will eventually run into limitations, such as changing data in sibling components. It is good to know what you can and can't do with React. Then you get to experience the magic of Flux, and everything that made you hate React is possible with the combination. It's like eating your vegetables first... then you get the steak!!

Did you find anything worth using for your use case?
teddythetwig··on How we’ve made Raptor fast
Yep, that's when I stopped reading and closed the article. Why hide the fact that you are building paid software? Perhaps it was naive to assume that it was open source, but that piece really surprised me.
teddythetwig··on MIT scholar fights malaria with magnets
Question, the article states that the device should be able to determine whether the malaria parasite has infected the subject while they are asymptomatic. From my limited knowledge of malaria, I was under the impression that during the asymptomatic stage, malaria is multiplying in the liver and does not infect any red blood cells. How will this detect malaria if they are not excreting the iron crystals into the blood stream?
