tdjsnelling··on Show HN: Every single torrent is on this website
Me too. That's listed as an inspiration on the index page!
tdjsnelling··on Show HN: Every single torrent is on this website
https://www.npmjs.com/package/bittorrent-dht is used on the server.

DHT crawlers/indexers already exist to perform that function; they crawl and store infohashes (+ metadata when they receive it) and allow users to search that metadata to return relevant infohashes

tdjsnelling··on Show HN: Every single torrent is on this website
By announcing itself, the indexer makes itself more likely to be handed out as a peer to anyone else interested in that infohash. Every connection attempt it subsequently receives is evidence of another peer announcing or joining that torrent. In effect, it "baits" peers into revealing themselves

Great concept. Very Library of Babel[1] -esque.

tdjsnelling··on LaTeX.css – Make your website look like a LaTeX document
I had a crack at a solution to this problem recently. It's pretty basic in terms of what it can do and not the most performant.

Code: https://github.com/tdjsnelling/microtype Demo: https://tdjsnelling.github.io/microtype/test/from-cdn/

Even better, there is the new CSS `hyphens: auto;`. Browser & language support is not yet 100% though.

tdjsnelling··on Show HN: Babel – browse every book that will ever be written using simple math
Thank you for sharing, I'll be sure to give that a read.

Thank you! Yes, if only he could have seen for himself.
tdjsnelling··on Show HN: Babel – browse every book that will ever be written using simple math
It's an implementation of the 'Library of Babel', as described by Borges in his short story of the same name. It is a library of every possible permutation of a limited alphabet, of books 1,312,000 characters long. The FAQ page [1] and the GitHub readme [2] explain it in much more detail.

A companion tool for the space sim game Elite Dangerous — useless to anyone that doesn't play the game. I have had a couple of donations from kind users.

tdjsnelling··on Last.fm turns 20
One of the few subscription services I would happily pay more for, for the recommendations alone.
tdjsnelling··on Awesome Node-Based UIs
I have recently implemented a fairly complex workflow editor [1] at Northflank (https://northflank.com) using react-flow and elkjs. They make for a very powerful and flexible combination, great for our needs.

tdjsnelling··on Removal of Heroku free product plans
I agree that the Heroku developer experience has been second to none. I'm a front-end & DX engineer at Northflank and we're working hard to evolve and create a next-gen iteration of the Heroku experience anchored around 12 Factor Applications in a Kubernetes/cloud native era. We're getting very close, come and see for yourself: https://northflank.com. Some key features:

* As simple as `git push` to build & deploy services

* One-click addons for Postgres, Mongo, Redis, MySQL and more

* A generous free tier to get developers on board with minimal friction

* Great out of the box observability

* The option to set up pipelines for more complex build/preview/release workflows

tdjsnelling··on I Miss Heroku's DevEx
The decline of Heroku is a shame, they were the first to really make cloud accessible to all.

Over at Northflank (https://northflank.com), we're trying to continue that trend and great developer experience is our main priority. We address many of the same points you mention - simply `git push` to build and deploy (using Dockerfiles or Buildpacks), instant free DNS & TLS, one-click addons (Postgres, Mongo, Redis...), environment variables inherited from databases, and much much more - all with sensible pricing.

Feel free to check out what we've been building at https://northflank.com/changelog

tdjsnelling··on Off the Grid
I built a web version of Donsol for the same reason. It's a PWA so you can also install it on your device and play offline.

tdjsnelling··on My small revenge on Apple
Right? A different colour border on the Apple button should be the least of OPs design concerns here...
tdjsnelling··on I made 50k calls to explore the telephone network
I'm also fairly sure it says 'mobile' not 'maple'
tdjsnelling··on Decentralised content moderation
Totally agree. Why should someone else I've never met decide what I can and can't see? Leave that decision up to the individual user, and they can tailor their own experience as they desire. Allow them to filter out particular words, phrases, other users and so on.
tdjsnelling··on Show HN: I made NIGHT.FM, a cyberpunk-inspired online radio
Great work, the visuals are spot on.
tdjsnelling··on Facebook criticizes Apple’s iOS privacy changes with full-page newspaper ads
A while ago Facebook banned my small businesses advertising account out of the blue with no reason given, and gave no option to appeal or even find out what (if anything) I was doing wrong. This move effectively killed my business. The idea of FB caring about the 'little guys' is laughable.
tdjsnelling··on Lack of cdnjs activity
Yggdrasil[1] is a similar project that seems to be a bit more active, if you're interested.

tdjsnelling··on Show HN: Dat-keyserver: a distributed PGP keyserver based on the Dat protocol
Appreciate all the feedback, the code is certainly pretty hacky right now and I intend to clean it up in future. Glad you like the project!
tdjsnelling··on Show HN: Dat-keyserver: a distributed PGP keyserver based on the Dat protocol
That is something glaringly obvious that I should have considered, thanks for pointing it out. I'll make the change to require a specific message.
tdjsnelling··on Show HN: Historical order book reconstruction API for crypto markets
Is this a Stripe product? The site is almost identical.
tdjsnelling··on Calibra – Digital Wallet for Libra
From the whitepaper:

> it will be backed by a collection of low-volatility assets, such as bank deposits and short-term government securities in currencies from stable and reputable central banks.

and

> The assets in the Libra Reserve will be held by a geographically distributed network of custodians with investment-grade credit rating to provide both security and decentralization of the assets.
