tasteup··on Instant Payouts for Marketplaces
There's plenty of cashflow to negate the occasional fraud/chargeback. This is presumably how Venmo works.
tasteup··on Indie Hackers: Learn how developers are making money
I think the current title does a better job than the title you suggested.
tasteup··on Indie Hackers: Learn how developers are making money
Same thoughts here.
tasteup··on Show HN: New way to pre-book promotional meals at restaurants
Confused about what's being offered here. At first glance looks just like any other restaurant site with a menu.
tasteup··on Bulma – A modern CSS framework based on Flexbox
I'm surprised by the level of effort put into the bug report video.
tasteup··on Bulma – A modern CSS framework based on Flexbox
I found this hilarious. Genuinely interested in hearing if there's a meaning behind the name.
tasteup··on The Uber Engineering Tech Stack, Part I: The Foundation
They likely already preset views and controllers to react to backend events. If they add an event like "pride" to the backend, the app just has to render the view associated with that event.
tasteup··on Marc Andreessen – Lessons, Predictions, and Recommendations [audio]
Pro-founder does not mean they drop all standards and expectations. I'm not familiar with their entire portfolio, but using the Zenefits case (where the founder is accused of fraud) is a poor argument to support your claim that they are not pro-founder.

I'm not saying they are or aren't profounder. I just think Zenefits is not a good example to use to make sweeping accusations about the firm.

tasteup··on Amazon SES Verification Email Flagged as Spam
They do. But this occurred during the verification process. Meaning, the amazon email was sent to spam (not an email I tried to send).
tasteup··on Amazon SES Verification Email Flagged as Spam
ESPs warm up their ips and prepare them before putting them into production, where they're tasked with sending billions of emails on a regular basis. These IPs used in production are considered "professional grade".

tasteup··on Show HN: I created a platform that gives indie games a better chance at exposure
https://www.producthunt.com/games - Top 2 games listed today are indie games.

And it looks like you posted this 2 days ago: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11793777

tasteup··on Project Murphy – An imaginative bot answering “What-if” questions
What if Microsoft made another chatbot...
tasteup··on Announcing Heroku Free SSL Beta and Flexible Dyno Hours
You'd be surprised. And at their rates for paid apps, even a single mid-low traffic paid app can run $xxx per month (incl. db).
tasteup··on Announcing Heroku Free SSL Beta and Flexible Dyno Hours
I think it's time to move away from Heroku or create multiple accounts to pool together "low usage" apps.

Before // After

18h for every app // 24h for one app

tasteup··on Announcing Heroku Free SSL Beta and Flexible Dyno Hours
I have many free apps as well as paid apps running. But I always used Heroku because I didn't have to worry about limitations unless a particular app has high volume. Now that it's become a monstrous burden, I'll definitely be moving most of my apps to a vps/DigitalOcean.

You just lost a huge number of free apps that could potentially become paid apps.

TLDR: Hassle of keeping track of account wide dyno use > hassle of running on vps

tasteup··on Apply HN: Horde.tv – Live stream any show or YouTube video
As a fan of Vsauce, CGP, and several conference channels (JSConf) this looks promising. I definitely see the value in having live chat alongside the video.

But instead of YouTube videos, I think this is a better fit for watching shows like Netflix/Hulu live (not sure if they allow embedding). I regularly tune into new episodes on Hulu - this would fit perfectly.

tasteup··on Apply HN: Codeflow – A revolutionary programming platform
Nice idea and the demo video looks great. But trying to replace typed syntax with a drag and drop GUI is going to be an up hill battle if you're trying to convert existing programmers. And from the demo video, it doesn't look like something a new programmer could pick up easily. So who is your target audience?
tasteup··on Apply HN: Mealzie – Healthy, affordable meals from local families
I thought about this previously. There's the obvious regulatory issues to deal with. I suggest looking into Cottage Food laws, which allow individuals to sell food that was prepared in their kitchens.
tasteup··on Apply HN: Wiplo – Project Management and Chat, with great UX
Not sure that I would be a user, but the design looks slick! Nice job
tasteup··on Show HN: Quora for Recommendations
Been working on Yeti as a platform of experts to share experiences and recommendations. For example, if you're starting a startup, you'll want the best advice you can find on what (not) to do. Yeti is a curation of recommendations for any topic. Avoid common mistakes and find relevant advice from others who have "been there, done that".

Sometimes we get asked how Yeti is different from Q&A sites. While we love Quora, we found a huge subset of topics can't be served through Q&A. Just look at how many blog posts there are for "10 Best Tips on Getting Traction" or "Best Marketing Tools for Startups". We feel a community driven curation of recommendations would provide more value than arbitrary blog posts.

Popular topics:

Getting Users & Traction - http://www.yetiyeti.co/topic/startup-traction/

Best Startup Tools - http://www.yetiyeti.co/topic/best-tools-for-early-startups/

tasteup··on Show HN: Learn from Experiences – Recommendations for Startup Founders
This is a project I've been working on for people to share their experiences so others can learn and (hopefully) avoid making the same mistakes.

Share advice or recommend products/external websites.

I'd love to hear any feedback or suggestions.

tasteup··on Implementing a Sticky Input Field in iOS
I love this. I've actually been using https://github.com/AlexLittlejohn/ALTextInputBar, but this is a well written explanation and solution to the problem.
tasteup··on Show HN: Track Freebies and Free Trials from Startups
Thanks for the suggestion! Adding location-based categorization is high on my to-do list.
tasteup··on Show HN: Track Freebies and Free Trials from Startups
Just found out OnBoarded.co is on the front page of ProductHunt! I'm honored and infinitely thankful to the HN community (shout out to @kwdinc for hunting it)!
tasteup··on Show HN: Track Freebies and Free Trials from Startups
Good point. Adding location-based info for startups is definitely on the top of my to-do list. Though it could be a bit tricky gathering all the information accurately (startups change their pricing on whim).
tasteup··on Show HN: Track Freebies and Free Trials from Startups
Hi Kruk! Thanks for checking out the site. Your feedback is very similar to @anilgulecha's suggestion to add India specific startups. I'll certainly prioritize categorizing startups by location.
tasteup··on Show HN: Track Freebies and Free Trials from Startups
Hi Animats - Thanks for the technical analysis. We don't get any "kickback" or benefits from promoting services. In fact, we don't post specific referral codes or promo codes on the site. I created the site to track services I used in the past.

However, I understand the point you're trying to make. I'll definitely work on making it clear if a service is offering something for "free" and clarify the full terms of the wording.

tasteup··on Show HN: Track Freebies and Free Trials from Startups
Any feedback is welcome! I built this to track startups I've previously signed up for.
tasteup··on How I got my side project's first 3500 users
Awesome! Did you use a tool to generate that graph?
tasteup··on Paperspace – A full computer you can access from any web browser
From my understanding, trygrid is aimed at supporting specific applications. Paperweight is the entire PC sort of like how you would lease a VPS.
