taormina··on When did Google get so weird?
Ideally. But when you’re Google, what are they going to do, use Bing?
taormina··on Claude Code reads AGENTS.md only when telemetry is on [fixed]
No, they do not.
taormina··on Flock is rolling out a voluntary severance program
It's like nobody, left or right, wanted for or consented to the surveillance state. Nothing like shoving the biggest, dumbest camera you can find in everyone's face to rub it all in. Obviously, the surveillance state is part and parcel post-9/11, but it's too easy to ignore the tech nerds when they talk about abstract things like "privacy" and "abusing the system". Then we get visible things for them to rally against like Flock.
taormina··on There's a 100% Chance AI Agents Are Ruining the Internet
Which people actively refuse to use because of the association with AI work.

Which is more likely, let's Occam's Razor this. That the AI agents are teaching every individual to "write better" or that the AI agents are crapping out the articles with the emdashes.

taormina··on What we have learned at OpenShell applying formal methods to control AI agents
I didn’t observe any confusion. You could’ve written a better comment.
taormina··on Finder is so frustrating and has been since day one
HN hug of death.
taormina··on How Claude marks AI-generated content
New models will mark AI-generated content from day one. Claude models launched in the EU on or after August 2, 2026 will support machine-readable marking at launch. Generated text will carry embedded watermarks, and generated files will include digitally signed provenance metadata where supported.

So, they’ve been doing this for over a week without telling anyone?

taormina··on How is the Bun rewrite in Rust going?
Everyone’s point is “they have everything to gain by lying about being more done then they are” and “the claims seem at least a bit full of shit”.
taormina··on Command and Conquer Generals natively ported to macOS, iPhone, iPad using Fable
HN titles are not the best.

Have you ported a desktop title to mobile? It is NOT trivial. This is the next step in a continuing chain of work that builds upon the next and next person's work, but this is not a trivial step. If it was so trivial, why hadn't it already been done?

The jump to Apple Silicon is net-new work, and they aren't trying to pretend they did more than they did.

> This fork — the iOS/iPadOS port (arm64-ios cross-build, DXVK-on-iOS, touch controls, app lifecycle, packaging) and engine fixes, offered upstream

They are even asking you to support the original creators on Steam, so they are getting a cut. No one is stealing assets. I would love to see more of this sort of work being done out in the wild, not discouraging it. Were previous steps harder? Absolutely. Doesn't that invalidate this step? No.

taormina··on Web-based cryptography is always snake oil
Alright, I'm ready. These are engineering motivations, as you said. So, which one of these isn't a cost center? Because an insurance policy would handle the first two, but probably cheaper. Customers have repeatedly proven they will buy the product lacking the trust. Resisting mass surveillance? They are the mass surveillance. Which is now a legal compliance based cost center.

* preventing insider abuse * reducing liability * improving customer trust * resisting mass surveillance

taormina··on The short leash AI coding method for beating Fable
It does do this to frustrate you, save 30 tokens, and then waste a few thousand more when it didn't get all the context it needed by grep'ping. You have to be involved in the process though. It frequently wants to do things that are so incorrect, that even if it would be more convenient to just totally ignore it, it would be insane to actually ignore it. Do you trust it to not accidentally rm -rf the .git/ right after it helpfully force pushes to remote? I don't. Even if I don't expect it to do that, why would I ALLOW it to be able to?
taormina··on Ford AI hiccups push carmaker to rehire ‘gray beard’ inspectors
If they didn’t get canned, the slap on the wrist is the cost of doing business. If we all agree to investigate ourselves and we’re all very disappointed in what happened, what a shame!

If you say something is illegal and costs $X as a fine, you don’t curb behavior, they just bake the fine into their business model.

taormina··on Why Does Everyone Hate AI?
They announced their price increases on all their products today, which is responsible for their red day today.
taormina··on Why Does Everyone Hate AI?
You haven’t seen Apple’s stock price today huh?
taormina··on There is minimal downside to switching to open models
For that matter, the new models are shit. If I’m using Opus 4.6 anyway to get anything actually done, then great, we’re actually entirely caught up then.
taormina··on Claude Fable 5
Listen. I don’t care about evidence. I care about my lived experience for the product I paid for. I used the new product. It’s actively terrible. To the point of not being usable. We’re all ancedata, but what is “better evidence to the contrary”? The known and game-able benchmarks that they know they need to win at, so they train it to. It’s all he said, she said, which is the only reason we keep having this conversation.
taormina··on Claude Fable 5
Listen, you can say “but benchmarks, the benchmarks!” all day long, but consumer know when we are being sold a lemon. If it can’t do the most basic of things at least as good as it used to, this is table stakes. Nevermind that if you can’t do the basic stuff, how on earth can you be trusted with more?
taormina··on Claude Fable 5
4.6 has been my happy place for getting anything done for a while now.
taormina··on Claude Fable 5
I'd argue that 4.8 is a straight downgrade. For every type of task I've tried. It's been a gambit at this point. If 4.6 quits being available, I'm out at this point.
taormina··on Claude Fable 5
Those already landed! Oh, you weren't talking about 4.8?
taormina··on When AI Builds Itself: Our progress toward recursive self-improvement
So, is this what they call Opus 4.8? Improvement?
taormina··on Learn SQL Once, Use It for 30 Years
Did you not see the banner image?
taormina··on Apple rejected my dictation app for using the accessibility API
They do literally pay people to do that. Then one of those people chose to reject this anyway.
taormina··on Don't Subscribe So Casually
Get a credit card that isn't dogshit then. You can absolutely charge back.
taormina··on No Juniors Today, No Seniors in 2031
How long do you think careers last?
taormina··on Computer Use is 45x more expensive than structured APIs
The interface designed for humans is poor for AI needs? And the interface designed for programmatic use is easier for the AI to use? In other news, the sky is blue and water is wet.
taormina··on Show HN: Got tired of paying $100/mo for SEO tools, so I built an alternative
> Rated 5/5 by 100+ SEOs

If you just made this, who is reviewing this? How many total reviews? Can we see the reviews? Did you get 100 5 stars and 10000 0-1 stars? Where did you find those customers? I understand that this is obviously megavibe coded, but is this just marketing lies?

taormina··on Let's talk about LLMs
Great! So all of this 10x boosting is visible in which economic indicator?
taormina··on Claude Code refuses requests or charges extra if your commits mention "OpenClaw"
It's definitely not! Now I can Claude Code proof all future PRs into my open source repo with a single commit message.
taormina··on HashiCorp co-founder says GitHub 'no longer a place for serious work'
In the lifespan of Git and GitHub that’s all very recent.
