tambre··on You might not need Kubernetes
It was part of their networking rework. Presumably to improve stability of the website. I've also been told that it was a big step towards enabling IPv6 for HN.

There are other parts of Y Combinator that still use Cloudflare though.

tambre··on You might not need Kubernetes
HN hasn't been fronted by Cloudflare since July.

While GCP has IPv6 support for their global load balancers, it's very limited and not sufficient for many uses.

For example, I've been working on contributing IPv6 support to GitLab.com [0], which is hosted on GCP. Turns out it's impossible for the main site right now, because none of the global load balancer types allow port 22, which is used for Git traffic. I've no idea why there are even such restrictions, but there's of course a "feature" request for allowing port 22 [1]. I was able to repurpose the work for other parts of GitLab.com, but I've yet to get even those to work, due to the load balancers gobbling up HTTPS/SSL requests [2].

Yes, but not always. In my country (Estonia) the biggest ISP (Telia) provides IPv6 for home connections, but not on the mobile network.

As for Reliance Jio, they have over 300 million IPv6 users, with a total IPv6 adoption of 88% [0][1].

tambre··on IPv6 breaks the 25% barrier
A year back the party decreed a plan to have all Internet users on IPv6 by 2025, with a quarter of them already by the end of this year [0]. There was a test rollout back at the beginning of the summer [1]. I guess we might see a huge rollout before the end of the year to meet the deadline. There's been a slight rebound already [2][3].

tambre··on IPv6 breaks the 25% barrier
Because of people not working. IPv6 deployement on consumer internet providers is much higher than those of corporate environments.

Lack of IPv6 on corporate networks isn't very surprising, considering how hard/annoying enabling it is for business connections [0].

There's also IPvFoo[0] for those on Chrome (it supports Firefox too, but is a bit buggier there).

Not really. They turned it on for an increasing number of customers during a single week and then turned it off for most of them, but still ended up with more IPv6-enabled customers than before. As explained in the Cloudflare blog post [0], this is common when testing IPv6 deployement before complete rollout.

> You've just redirected one of your legitimate users to the attacker.

I interpreterd it as being redirect back to your own address. E.g if I'm an attacker and my IP is [FE80::2], then I'd be redirected to [FE80::2]. Same for an user. And if you've got attackers from 10k IPs, then I'd think it'd be unlikely that you'd single out a single attacker IP.

tambre··on Hosting your static site with AWS S3, Route 53, and CloudFront for free
Neither supports IPv6 officially, though.

GitHub Pages actually had IPv6 support, but they removed it, because they added HTTPS support (that's what their support said). But I checked and the old IPv6 CDN endpoints actually still work, even with HTTPS.

Netlify actually has also promised IPv6 support "at the start of the year"[0], but I wouldn't count it.
