takee··on Exercise intensity is associated with cardiometabolic health
I built this HIIT timer tool www.hiitmeup.fit for exactly this reason as I try to squeeze in a compact exercise during my busy work days. I put this out on show HN a few weeks ago and hope others will find it just as useful as I do.
takee··on Show HN: Simple HIIT timer for efficient workouts
These issues should be addressed now. Please let me know if there are any open items.
takee··on Show HN: Simple HIIT timer for efficient workouts
Really appreciate the feedback. I will work to address this feedback promptly as layout issues and responsiveness can definitely impact the overall user experience. I will also prioritize the native app development which I assume will address both issues more easily.

Thank you! Please do share any feature requests if you have and I will be sure to priorize.
takee··on Ask HN: What was your "oh shit" moment with GenAI?
I was working on a science experiment (electromagnetics) with my 10-year-old kid that was going to be demonstrated at a science fair in his school. We ran into a hiccup with the experiment that we couldn't debug ourselves. I turned on Gemini live video call to help us root cause the problem. It was able to clearly articulate all the possible issues and eventually was successful in making our apparatus work as expected. Turned out the wire that I was wrapping around the screw had some insulation that was not scraped off well on the side it was connecting to the battery. Gemini was able to capture this detail even though my bare eyes could not. My kid and 2 of his friends were impressed not just by the experiment, but because the live audio/video back and forth we had with the AI was almost magical!
takee··on Can ultraviolet lightbulbs end the next pandemic before it starts?
If this will kill all bacteria and viruses, it would certainly also destroy the beneficial bacteria that forms our microbiome and that could have negative health effects in the long run. Has any research been done to check on this?
takee··on Ask HN: Now we're staying inside with Wi-Fi, have you changed your cell plan?
Those are some insanely cheap prices for 1.5GB a day! I pay $40 for 1GB a month here in the United States. How is this even possible? Are the service providers here really taking in such a fat margin?
takee··on Vegan takeaway orders quadruple over past two years
Couldn't agree more. Inspite of being a hardcore meat-eater, I often enjoy authentic vegan food because of the actual plant based ingredients such as beans, beatroot and corn. The flavors come together quite nicely in an old school veggie bean patty. The trend with impossible meats disappoints me.
takee··on India will soon overtake China to become the most populous country in the world
Did you know that languages even within different states in India can be vastly more different than the differences between French and German, all with a different script and all? Yes, India is probably more diverse all on it's own, compared to all of EU perhaps.
takee··on Immune cells may play a role in causing cavities
I wonder if the results of this study indirectly also supports this previous study linking oral cancers and oral cavities, proving that higher number of cavities results in reduced cancer risk: https://www.webmd.com/oral-health/news/20130912/tooth-caviti...
takee··on Is fasting safe? A review of adverse events during water-only fasting (2018)
Coffee with milk or cream, or black coffee?
takee··on A cure for cancer? Israeli scientists say they think they found one
This could be 'the' groundbreaking medical discovery of our century, if proven to work. I think I read some stats recently about how most people in the near future will not die of sudden conditions like heart failure etc but rather die due to slow killers like cancer (I will try to corroborate the reference here if I find it) and this may have a huge impact on humanity.
takee··on Spain will soon overtake Japan in life expectancy rankings
It is unclear from the article if lifespans presented in the calculations include those impacted by homicides/accidents or only natural causes.
takee··on Spain will soon overtake Japan in life expectancy rankings
I beg to differ as if we were to judge purely based on this logic China and India would have probably also been at the top of the curve, which is not really true. Both of these countries greatly value family and it's quite typical for people to stay with their parents well into 30's and beyond.
takee··on Building blocks of life found on Mars
It's becoming a bit hard to keep track of organic possibilities outside of earth. Every day brings new discoveries. I wonder if most might ignore a significant one some day.
takee··on People Start Hating Their Jobs at Age 35
Do you mind sharing the domain in which your wife's company is involved in (assuming you don't want to share the name of the company)?
takee··on The end of the line for Indian outsourcers – or a new beginning?
Please don't use quotes when you're not quoting verbatim from the article. The author is clearly just suggesting a path forward for Indian companies to maintain a stream of revenue going forward. Nowhere did he suggest that India is an expert in industrial robotics, he's just suggesting the country could explore that as an option.
takee··on Indian Students Lured by Recruiters Asked to Leave University
Seriously don't understand the point of this story other than the implied racist undertones. Why is it important to highlight the nationality of the students in the title, when the failure is clearly on the part of the university admissions office for not vetting the student applications/GRE scores etc prior to having them fly in. The nationality just happens to be related to the country where the recruiters looked in. I bet they would have found equally unqualified candidates in any other country, but it's far easier to go to India where just by the way of shear numbers you can swoop in a lot more interested candidates in a much shorter time period.
takee··on First Friendly Contact with the Sentinelese
The article gives both description and photographic proof of the contact with the sentinelese people.
takee··on First Friendly Contact with the Sentinelese
If this really was the first successful contact, I don't quite understand how the language of these people is the same as/similar to other Andaman island/Indian languages. Context: "Nariyali Jaba Jaba".
takee··on How the Jeans Capital of the World Moved from Texas to China
My gut says that it's because the brands have gotten used to a fatter margin/profits, but then I'm no expert.
takee··on Show HN: Import Docker in Python and Run Anything
Or, if you have docked installed on a system anyway why not just use docker-py (docker's python bindings) directly to run stuff in containers?
takee··on Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge
I have come to quite like the split pane and app resize features that others talked about. As per the bloatware that came with my s6 edge, I disabled most of those apps the very first day and haven't run into any problems because of that. My phone's battery life is very much comparable to my girlfriend's iPhone 6s, both of which last us through a full day with average use. The only difference being that because I have the s6, I get the Ultra power saving mode though which if turned on at 3% charge or so let's me make/receive calls, text/whatsapp my friends, browse the interwebs, Facebook and Twitter for another 8-10 hours.
takee··on DNA could help solve mystery of the Indus Valley civilization
How long does it take for researchers to extract DNA samples and compare it against the current population's samples? Maybe I'm being naive here but shouldn't that be a quick enough analysis? This research is going to help answer some very interesting questions.
takee··on More than 70 whale carcasses mysteriously washed ashore
There have been no logical conclusions yet as to why so many whales would just wash ashore a beach and die because they got trapper. It is almost like a planned mass-suicide. It is said that some animals have a sixth sense that warns them of an oncoming natural disaster (unnatural increase in bird sounds a few minutes before an earthquake), but could this be attributed to that? Only time will tell.

There are other conspiracy theorists who suspect some underwater nuclear testing that may have led to this catastrophe.

takee··on Docker for Beginners
Yes it would help here but would also expose new security loopholes.
takee··on DuckDuckGo grew more than 70% this year
Has anyone considered that the slightly longer and forgettable name DuckDuckGo might have something to do with the low mainstream presence? I think they should rebrand and market with duckgo or maybe just duck.com if at all practically possible.
takee··on How to Satisfy the World’s Surging Appetite for Meat
> Also, many non-vegans and non-vegetarians suffer from B12 deficiency these days.

As a meat eater with B12 deficiency I agree with this statement.

takee··on French Uber drivers have created their own Uber
> He says it costs more than $200,000 a year to maintain the app, which was developed by Multi Brains LLC, and his organization has begun buying ads on Google and Facebook.

That sounds a tad bit less (even assuming 250K, to account for "more than") considering it includes salaries for >2 app developers, hardware/AWS costs and marketing costs which seem to include Google and Facebook ads. What am I missing here?

takee··on I Want to Run Stateful Containers, Too
Personally I think it might make sense to run your stateful apps in openstack VMs and the stateless portion in containers.
