tacocataco··on US prosecutors recommend Justice Department criminally charge Boeing
Revoke their charter permanently?

Sounds good, but what's to stop those responsible spinning up another company?

tacocataco··on Microsoft to delay release of Recall AI feature on security concerns
Can't users just not want a feature?

Why bother using psychological tricks to fool the user into compliance when you can just use that time and energy to make a better product?

tacocataco··on Microsoft to delay release of Recall AI feature on security concerns
Through state level electoral reform, people would be able to vote outside the party system with no chance of a spoiler effect.

Perhaps feeling the heat of other viable political parties joining the table will light a fire under the asses of the legacy political parties?

tacocataco··on Intel is trucking a 916k-pound 'Super Load' across Ohio to its new fab
Mad respect to our truckers. I could never work a job that left so much of my safety in the hands of the average driver.
tacocataco··on Noam Chomsky 'no longer able to talk' after 'medical event'
America is perfect? No bad to be found here? I find this hard to believe.
tacocataco··on Mastercard Launches Its Biometric Retail Payment System in Europe
It's probably better for MasterCard somehow, not the consumer.

Perhaps selling this collected data to third parties? I'd imagine optometrists would want it to push mail in fliers.

tacocataco··on Google shuts down GPay app and P2P payments in the US
I am exhausted switching services. please can we pick one and be done with it?

How about adversarial integration? Why can't I send money from cashapp to venmo? Is the technology not there yet?

I wish the post office was a bank and they hosted their own pay apps.

tacocataco··on Deterioration of local community a major driver of loss of play-based childhood
Hate.... finds a way.
tacocataco··on Deterioration of local community a major driver of loss of play-based childhood
"Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

tacocataco··on Deterioration of local community a major driver of loss of play-based childhood
It's hard to be a part of the community when I have to move every year because my rent keeps going up.
tacocataco··on Ask HN: Why do games companies not release source code for old games?
Copyright on intellectual property should cover this right? Shouldn't these corporations be forced to release the source code on that basis?
tacocataco··on AI headphones let wearer listen to a single person in a crowd by looking at them
You could even make a black list of people you don't want to hear!
tacocataco··on 300k airplanes in five years
With what we spend on the military, it's shameful to not have an entire factory mothballed ready to crank out ammunition.

But maybe I'm not a military genius like those in charge of for profit defense contractors.

tacocataco··on Tom Waits vs. Frito-Lay, Inc (2003)
This reminds me of this article on a couple of people trying to make every "possible song" public domain.

tacocataco··on A global plastic treaty will only work if it caps production, modeling shows
When I go to aldis I always grab a fruit box. Keeps my food bill smaller to because I can only carry so much.
tacocataco··on A global plastic treaty will only work if it caps production, modeling shows
Force these corporations to deal with the plastic waste they make while generating their profits. They dont get to half do their job and walk away with the extra saved cash. No more externalization of costs.

We will even let them keep their profits from all the years of getting away with it. How generous!

tacocataco··on Discord has been using ML to determine the gender and age of some of its users
The beginning of enshitification of discord (while 100% expected) for some reason hits harder then any other service I've used throughout all these years. It has entirely replaced social media for me. It just felt more organic to me then anything else.

So... since I've heard about the ads coming to discord, I have looked into alternatives.

They do exist, in varying quality, and there are programs for some of them that make a "bridge" from a discord server to your new platform. It's possible to have your cake and eat it to.

Matrix looks really close, but it needs ALOT of love. I have high hopes for matrix because of the idea of it. Perhaps my lackluster experience was because I didn't choose the best client available. I'm still trying new things here.

Revolt is the more complete product as of today.

Spacebar I have yet to try but it's on my radar.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had other recommendations for me to try. I really would appreciate help here. Hopefully something open source and self hosted so I can stop migrating and sink some roots in somewhere.

Oh crap, is it IRC?

tacocataco··on How Airline Lobbyists Just Got Humiliated
Why does the airline get to use violence to pay under market value to get someone off their plane?

Keep bidding up the compensation till someone volunteers. Don't like the cost? To bad.

tacocataco··on California says restaurants must bake all of their add-on fees into menu prices
Considering slavery is still legal as per the 13th amendment, yes. We are addicted to cheap/free labor for businesses.
tacocataco··on High prices are not the main cause of low fertility rates in cities
I was hesitant to click on this Twitter post but it's actually a well written article on the topic. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder if being around so many people burns us out. Having a kid ensures there will be someone always at home, so after a day of swimming through strangers you don't get solitude at home.

While full automation has a low probability in our lives, the chances are much higher for the next generation. So in my potential child's life, they very likely wont be able to remain employed.

How do we currently treat people who aren't working right now? Terribly. This means (IMO) it's best for the child to not exist.

Perhaps you might think, "I'm smart and I will raise a smart healthy child, and that won't happen to them." Welp even if the stars align and nothing goes wrong, what kind of a future is that to leave them? Endlessly competing for the last few living wage jobs in existence? That doesn't sound like a free life to me.

Consent of the unborn is not given while creating life. Now that we have an option in weather or not we create life, we should exercise it with responsibility.

tacocataco··on Neuralink's First Human Brain-Chip Implant Appeared Flawless,There Was a Problem
I feel like I'm being trained by these legacy media outlets to go elsewhere for news.
tacocataco··on Can turning office towers into apartments save downtowns?
What about house flippers?
tacocataco··on Can turning office towers into apartments save downtowns?
I vote for the construction companies to be held liable. That way any future office buildings they construct will be more easily converted to housing.

Tearing down good buildings and building new is wasteful and causes more pollution then repurposing. These for profit corporations externalized these costs upon us repressing.

Planning for those who plan to use planned obsolescence to generate a profit.

Art is subjective. There is nothing wrong with having your own interpretation
tacocataco··on A book Stanley Kubrick didn’t want anyone to read is being published
We enjoy art from artists deep in addictions or mental health crisis.

Art can be morbid. Like an ongoing disaster that unfolds before us, we can't look away sometimes.
