> Code reviews should not allow such commits to pass through.

Are you suggesting that your code review process has a stage for combing through commit messages? What does this look like? If the third commit message of 15 isn't up to par what happens?

The Dude and the Zen Master
t3h2mas··on This is your Captain speaking, I’m turning on the fasten seat belt sign
I wonder what take aways there are for personal finance.

I also wonder if real estate will drop with the market, and what impact that has on a HCOL pro-seller housing market.

t3h2mas··on Ask HN: Any good examples of learning through games/puzzles, for adults?
A radio ad for the second season of the Duolingo podcast prompted me to check out the first season.

I appreciate the idea that the episodes are life stories instead of fake cafe scenes. The stories are interesting, and sometimes intense. The CEO / cofounder talks about a kidnapping in his family in the last episode of season one.

The small english summaries every few sentences helps provide context. That helps with context for the words I'm not familiar or strong with.

The language used is intermediate level. Personally I am below that level, but have gotten value from episodes.

I like the idea of publishing interesting text files like this automatically to a personal site.
t3h2mas··on ESLint compromised, may have stolen your credentials
When I develop locally using Docker, I live link my code directory into the container. I.E.

docker run -v "$PWD":/some/app/location ...

My editor doesn't know I'm using Docker. You can change your workflow when you want to deploy to a container registry, etc.

You can easily modify the script to scan for the other vulnerable dependency as per

version: eslint-config-eslint 5.0.2

t3h2mas··on Ask HN: How did you find your passion?
Continue to lift. Eat protein. Your TDEE might go up if you lift the same amount and add BJJ on top. If recovery becomes an issue hit the usual sleep, hydrate, eat, stretch points.

Most of what I've read about muscle loss is that it happens when you eat at a deficit or don't hit your protein targets.

This video talks about the creators experience balancing BJJ w/ lifting. https://www.reddit.com/r/weightroom/comments/6o8ubw/balancin...

Edit: personally I switched to a 5/3/1 variant for athletes, but plan on going back to a higher volume program soon, after some weight loss.

t3h2mas··on Ask HN: What you wish you'd known before getting into JavaScript?
Regardless of how you feel about $-lines, we can all learn from reading project code.
t3h2mas··on Ask HN: How are black hat groups formed?
IRC + beer + (angst || ideology)
t3h2mas··on Ask HN: In what unconventional way did you meet your developers friends?
IRC. In the depths of restaurant work. Met another one at BJJ.

t3h2mas··on Ask HN: Do you use budgeting software?
Sometimes I use mint. My bank (simple) has simple goal saving that I'll use for toys. Otherwise I 'pay myself first' into savings/investment. It's been working so far. I can use mint to identify problem areas, cut those back, and add the difference to an automatic deposit.
t3h2mas··on Ask HN: Do you use budgeting software?
Very cool. I'd love to see a blog post. Will keep creative twilio use in mind for my next side project :)
t3h2mas··on Ask HN: Is there a new habit you cultivated recently that is really paying off?
Started BJJ recently. Good workout, my conditioning and flexibility have noticeably improved, forces you to be 'in the moment', and provides an opportunity to meet cool people. I could go on and on about the returns I've gotten.
t3h2mas··on Ask HN: Is there a new habit you cultivated recently that is really paying off?
Don't forget to let your body rest from the weight lifting.
t3h2mas··on Ask HN: Is there a new habit you cultivated recently that is really paying off?
You can lift and gain weight / feel bad from unhealthy eating.
t3h2mas··on Ask HN: What are the best email marketing tools out there?
Do you mind elaborating? Looking at email marketing myself. The only difference I see so far is that MC is cheaper...

On form: reddit.com/r/fitness can be a good resource for form checks. You may hear varying opinions on smaller details, but overall they should be geared towards you not getting hurt.

They have a 'how to post a form check' guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fitness/wiki/rules#wiki_2._how_to_p...

t3h2mas··on Book recommendation: Measure what matters
I'm listening to "Thinking Fast and Slow" right now. In it, the author talks about Gates school study, and others, as well as bias.

The author claims that small sample sets always produce the most extreme results, and while statisticians know this, measurements continue to happen using smaller data sets.

The author also claims that you could find data to support smaller schools being worse than larger ones due to the same issue.

Great book. It leaves me questioning the 'why' behind everything I think I know.

t3h2mas··on My struggle to learn React
Points 2-4 reinforce my suggestion to learn modern (es6/es7) JavaScript before taking on React. Vanilla JS alone can be tricky, see: `this`[0]

t3h2mas··on Ask HN: How do you continuously monitor web logs for hack attempts?
You cannot remove the attack surface when the app/service is served via http

Remove? Probably not. There are many options for minimizing the attack surface with http.
