syntheticcorp··on Renting a car will be a pain until at least 2022
Probably Turo? I’ve used them before to rent high horsepower cars off people.
syntheticcorp··on Women are nearly half of new gun buyers, study finds
New Zealand does not have a “very low” rate of gun ownership. It has ~ 26 firearms per 100 people, well short of the USAs 120 but still ranked 20th in the world.
syntheticcorp··on NSO Group iMessage Zero-Click Exploit Captured in the Wild
It’s because it is being exploited in the wild. Those bugs tend to get patched fast.

I assume other countries allowing boxing matches?
syntheticcorp··on The bargain at the heart of the BBC is fraying
It’s a reference to one of the most popular youtubers, who had the highest subscriber count for years.
syntheticcorp··on Palantir CEO Alex Karp gives $180k to ousted hermit River Dave
Is assisting in the enforcement of immigration law really “evil”?
syntheticcorp··on Why MPs have two mobile phones
Where I work roughly 80% of people have taken a similar deal to that you described and have the two phones option. It may be because I work in infosec but two phones is nothing unusual amongst my coworkers and the industry at large.
syntheticcorp··on Exploiting vulnerabilities in Cellebrite UFED and Physical Analyzer
Cellebrite tech is widely used by western authorities (as well as some “authoritarian” regimes)
syntheticcorp··on Deep dive in CORS: History, how it works, and best practices
Here’s my go to article on this behaviour:

Ironically? the code in the stock photo being written on the whiteboard contains a SQL injection vulnerability.
syntheticcorp··on Show HN: Endgame – An AWS Pentesting tool to backdoor or expose AWS resources
The main repository seems to have been taken down but it is still available at https://github.com/kmcquade/endgame and on Pypi
syntheticcorp··on Why do they still make car alarms? (2015)
Do the stickers not have identifying details like the car’s plate number?
syntheticcorp··on In 1980s Los Angeles, a bank was robbed every hour (2019)
Maybe an autocorrect from cow rustling? I can’t find anything online about cake wrangling, exciting as it sounds.
syntheticcorp··on Covid-19 virus 'survives on some surfaces for 28 days'
The NZ outbreak was not from the cold storage facility, that got ruled out eventually.
syntheticcorp··on Come for the network, pay for the tool
Apparently a “Bloomberg Hacker News clone” exists, according to this article. Does anyone have access to it? Is it good?
syntheticcorp··on Target’s gig workers will strike to protest switch to algorithmic pay model
I’ve always found it strange that some delivery apps use the value of the order as part of the drivers compensation or delivery fee. It looks like this is one of the changes Shipt are making, which probably would lower driver pay for more expensive items.
syntheticcorp··on Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX Spotted
Fuzzing programs is really a CPU task, although it can usually be horizontally scaled across multiple boxes.
syntheticcorp··on Reddit's website uses DRM for fingerprinting
Yes I like lainchan too. Some of the blue boards on 4chan are fine most of the time as well.
syntheticcorp··on Turn on MFA Before Crooks Do It for You
Duo is free and also syncs to iCloud
syntheticcorp··on Removing “Annoying” Windows 10 Features Is a DMCA Violation, Microsoft Says
I'm now running a 2004 updated Pro host with that Group Policy setting and don't see any web search results. I also checked my registry and I don't have that DWORD key.

Rebooting will refresh the group policy, so that should have worked. Maybe try also enabling the "Do not allow Web Search" policy which is adjacent in Admin Templates > Windows Components > Search. That seems to be all the configuration I have to make it work.

syntheticcorp··on Ask HN: Where can I find archived dark web content?
Maybe have a look in Gwern’s dark net market archives , they may have some hacker forums included. https://www.gwern.net/DNM-archives
syntheticcorp··on Finding secrets by decompiling Python bytecode in public repositories
I scanned everything pushed to dockerhub for a few weeks but didn’t find too much interesting stuff showing up
syntheticcorp··on Amazon sellers marking products as collectible to get around price gouging rules
Demand for consumer TP probably would have increased given many people are no longer at the office
syntheticcorp··on I don’t want to be patronized and much less by a software vendor
When I see a genderised statement like this I always wonder if I had missed something earlier in the writing and the author was referring to a specific male person rather than a company. I also find it equally jarring when authors unexpectedly use “her” for a gender neutral object like a company in some misguided attempt to write with inclusivity.
syntheticcorp··on Amazon and other platforms allowing payments to far-right groups
Mein Kampf is also currently for sale on Amazon. I worry when groups like SPLC consider themselves the final arbiter on what is a “hate group”, as you get quotes like “There is absolutely no excuse for a company to service, and make money from, any group identified by SPLC as a hate group,” .
syntheticcorp··on iPhone SE: The One-Eyed King?
Do you mean 3D Touch instead of Touch ID? I agree that 3D Touch isn’t that useful or an everyday feature, I believe it’s now discontinued
syntheticcorp··on Netflix now supports TLS 1.3
That’s not the case now. I see a TLSv1.3 connection to the googlevideo.com server using Firefox, and a QUIC connection in Chrome
syntheticcorp··on PayPal and Venmo are still letting SIM swappers hijack accounts
Australia and New Zealand don’t require photo ID to cast votes either.
syntheticcorp··on Unpatched iOS bug blocks VPNs from encrypting all traffic
My self hosted DigitalOcean VPN is blocked by them, I wonder if it’s region specific
syntheticcorp··on Tokyo Olympics “looking at a cancellation” if coronavirus not contained
Are you a member of a group with higher risk for this like the elderly or immunocompromised? If so I would avoid it.

On the other hand if you are young and fit and capable of following the standard precautions I don’t think you have too much to worry about.

I say this as I’m about to depart from Thailand for Taiwan
