symlinkk··on Llama 2
“Wonderful for the world” = “I can exploit this to make money”
symlinkk··on Kata Containers: Virtual Machines that feel and perform like containers
So why would you use this over regular containers? Is this for people who think containers are insecure?
symlinkk··on Why do so few people major in computer science? (2017)
There’s not teaching of law or medicine in high school either, should we start cramming that down students throats to depress wages in those fields too? Of course not, lawyers and doctors are smart enough to see through that facade.

High schoolers should be taught how to cook, how to exercise, how to think for themselves, and basic history and math. Anything above that like Calculus is a huge waste of time if they don’t know how to fry a fucking egg.

symlinkk··on Moving the Evernote center of operations to Europe
Austria-Hungary
symlinkk··on Are one million people in the UK using anabolic steroids? (2022)
I was told your own body stops producing testosterone and this is permanent. So you are signing up to get injections in your ass once a week for the rest of your life. No idea if this is actually true though, I find it hard to believe personally as many bodybuilders will cycle on and off steroids constantly.
symlinkk··on Supreme Court Rejects Student Loan Forgiveness Plan
Why isn’t this on the front page? 100+ comments and it’s not there?
symlinkk··on Supreme Court Rejects Student Loan Forgiveness Plan
You didn’t budget for it at all? Just 100% confident that you’d never have to pay it?
symlinkk··on National Geographic lays off its last remaining staff writers
Sounds more like the market doesn’t value “high quality journalism” as much anymore. Especially when you can find primary sources covering events on social media for free. At least for tech news, comments on HN are more succinct, less biased, and more hard hitting than any tech news site I’ve seen.
symlinkk··on Titanic tourist sub photos show wreckage being brought ashore
If you believe the NY Post, the CEO straight up said the sub was “safer than crossing the street” - https://nypost.com/2023/06/23/doomed-sub-ceo-said-it-was-saf...
symlinkk··on The hidden cost of air quality monitoring
Holy shit dude you live in Gary? Isn’t that one of the most violent cities in the country, with a ton of abandoned buildings?
symlinkk··on Canada plans brain drain of H-1B visa holders, with no-job, no-worries permits
They don’t co mingle though. They segregate themselves into “Mexican neighborhoods”, “Indian neighborhoods”, etc. They marry and socialize amongst themselves.
symlinkk··on Silicon Valley is on drugs
Cocaine has a plausible performance boosting argument.
symlinkk··on I'm Done with Red Hat (Enterprise Linux)
So what if a company isn’t profitable? Do you think that companies don’t need to pay for electricity or rent just because they’re not profitable?

As for your “personal/private services”, aren’t those covered for free under the RHEL individual developer subscription?

symlinkk··on I'm Done with Red Hat (Enterprise Linux)
If you’re running something in production you’re almost certainly making money off of it, so maybe you should send some of that money to RedHat for licenses?
symlinkk··on Louis Rossmann calls community to leave Reddit
This guy sucks, he loves to get involved in controversial topics for attention
symlinkk··on The Reddit blackout has left Google barren and full of holes
Oh my gosh a multi billion dollar company can no longer make money off of free content online oh no :(
symlinkk··on Reddit Strike Has Started
No it’s because Redditors love being drama queens about things. Remember “net neutrality” and how every Redditor was acting like the sky was falling down? This is the same thing. In 2 weeks people will forget about it and move on.
symlinkk··on Reddit CEO doubles down on attack on Apollo developer in drama-filled AMA
You mean the same platform that earned him millions of dollars already? Yeah I’m sure he would love to support it
symlinkk··on Addressing the community about changes to our API
Yes they’re wrong. Raise prices if you need to.
symlinkk··on Addressing the community about changes to our API
I support what Reddit is doing and I think the Apollo dev is in the wrong. You don’t get to make millions of dollars building your app on someone else’s platform with no agreements in place and then start crying when they start charging for the platform.
symlinkk··on Taurine deficiency as a driver of aging
So is salt but it’s worth it
symlinkk··on Apollo will close down on June 30th
Good, anything you share now is sucked up by ChatGPT and then that knowledge is instantly shared with everyone in the world. Let’s go back to staying private if we want to keep our jobs.
symlinkk··on Apollo will close down on June 30th
Why not just pay Reddit for their APIs? If you’re making $20M a year by building an app on their platform, it seems totally fair to pay them $10M a year for access. Do you expect AWS to host your stuff for free too?
symlinkk··on Reddit API Pricing Would Cost Apollo Developer $20M per Year
The “active” page has all the juicy stuff - https://news.ycombinator.com/active
symlinkk··on Had a call with Reddit to discuss pricing
How much did this guy make from people buying Apollo though? Probably millions right?
symlinkk··on Removing support for forwarded ports
“Zero chance” is bullshit, they could easily join a private tracker and look for IPs, they just don’t currently because private trackers are not widely known.
symlinkk··on Why Timothy Cain creator of Fallout left Fallout 2 during development
Seriously?
symlinkk··on Functionality that has been deprecated in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9
The only people left I see arguing for X are Linux zealots that hate any sort of change.
symlinkk··on Google engineer jumps to death in NYC, second worker suicide in months
Ok so what do you tie your feeling of success to? Getting married and having kids? What if your wife divorces you? Same problem.
symlinkk··on Shopify will be smaller by about 20% and Flexport will buy Shopify Logistics
“Yeah, we see here that you developed your own machine learning framework in your free time. That’s great and all, but jross225 didn’t find you interesting enough, so we’re going to have to pass, sorry.”
