swrobel··on Ask HN: Are .shop domains down?
Reply I received from GMO Registry to the email I sent them yesterday:

On September 24, 2026, between UTC 16:11 and 21:54, some .shop domain names intermittently could not be resolved. This was caused by an issue in our system resources in our zone generation system, which resulted in some domain names being temporarily missing from the .shop zone. The issue has been resolved, and DNS resolution has been stable since UTC 21:54.

Depending on DNS caching, some users may have continued to see errors for up to one hour after the issue was resolved. Registration data, including nameserver settings, was not changed or lost, and domain name holders do not need to take any action.

The cause has been identified and corrected, and we are implementing additional measures to prevent a recurrence.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

...and down again!

Seems like they're coming back up... Still not sure what caused this, or where it's monitored.

swrobel··on FBI Extracted Deleted Signal Messages Saved in iPhone Notification Database
Why would it keep the notification history after they’ve been dismissed, though? There’s no user-facing way (that I’m aware of) to access a history of dismissed notifications.
swrobel··on Cloudflare flags archive.today as "C&C/Botnet"; no longer resolves via 1.1.1.2
For some reason I thought 1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1 already wouldn’t resolve archive.[today|is|ph] anyway

Yeah, P30D as presumably intuitive to non-technical users has me chuckling

Also, knowing that TODAY > signup + P30D transpiles to TODAY > signup + 30.days in Ruby. Which one is more readable?

swrobel··on Pebble Index 01 – External memory for your brain
The double-tap gesture is something I was very excited about and have completely forgotten about since getting my watch. The caveats around what it takes to activate it (screen activated and facing vertically) are just so great, you wonder if anyone at Apple actually tried this and found it to be a better alternative to interacting with the screen. Their demo video actually does a perfect job of capturing just how ridiculously theatrical you have to be to get it to work: https://support.apple.com/guide/watch/use-double-tap-for-com...

Always wonder why companies see suing people as a better course of action than hiring them.
swrobel··on Pebble Index 01 – External memory for your brain
That’s the bummer for me. The primary place I’d like to use this is surfing. Too much time to think, and too few practical ways to record those thoughts.

swrobel··on Bitcoin Scam App Approved by Apple Robs iPhone User of $600k
I'm most concerned about how they accomplished what's described here:

> Apple says the fake Trezor app got through the App Store through "a bait-and-switch." It was called Trezor and used the Trezor logo and colors, but said that it was a "cryptography" app that would encrypt iPhone files and store passwords. The developer of the fake app told Apple that it was "not involved in any cryptocurrency." After the fake Trezor app was submitted, it changed itself into a cryptocurrency wallet, which Apple was not able to detect.

swrobel··on Build a salary with GitHub Sponsors
Decided to finally get onboard with Github sponsors and was dismayed to see this message:

"You'll be @babel's 13th sponsor, helping them reach their goal of $12,000 per month."

If a project as widely-used as babel can only attract 13 sponsors, this model is definitely broken
