swexbe··on Oil Is Hard to Quit, Even in Norway Where Electric Cars Rule
1. Make $100 from selling oil. 2. Use the money to buy other local services.

There, now your GDP is just 50% oil.

swexbe··on U.S. pedestrian deaths reach a 40-year high
Just rent a god damn trailer when you need one. It costs nothing and is available at every gas station (at least where I live).
swexbe··on Googling 'abortion clinic near me'? The top result often an anti-abortion clinic
"Most Indians oppose legal abortion"

"Classical Hindu texts are strongly opposed to abortion:

one text compares abortion to the killing of a priest another text considers abortion a worse sin than killing one's parents another text says that a woman who aborts her child will lose her caste"

Abortion is illegal in a majority of Muslim majority countries. The exceptions are usually post soviet states

Please, I'm literally just saying it wasn't a good comparison.
swexbe··on Googling 'abortion clinic near me'? The top result often an anti-abortion clinic
Only if you disregard everyone outside USA/EU.
swexbe··on Googling 'abortion clinic near me'? The top result often an anti-abortion clinic
It can be both, just like assisted suicide. Not sure how this has any effect on my argument. Advertising for an assisted suicide clinic, no matter your views on assisted suicide, is not the same as advertising for a sucide hotline. I think this is a fair comparison.

False equivalence. Killing something and trying to stop someone from killing something is not the same.
swexbe··on Humans aren’t mentally ready for an AI-saturated ‘post-truth world’
Making it always talk back would not be an issue, just like making it a complete sycophant would also be easy. Any form on nuance would be hard. E.g. if i'm complaining about my job it should talk back if i'm being unreasonable. But also take into current state of mind, etc. Maybe using thought chaining you could get something like this to work but from my experience, i doubt it would be very good.
swexbe··on Humans aren’t mentally ready for an AI-saturated ‘post-truth world’
Good comparison. An AI companion will never talk back or tell you that you're wrong. Kind of similar in my mind to how fast food restaurants won't serve you anything that's too "hard to swallow".
swexbe··on /r/startrek/ migrates to lemmy
I'm sure they will. Just waiting for the whole thing to die down a bit to get less of a reaction.
swexbe··on Modern language models refute Chomsky’s approach to language
There's a single medium.com grifter claiming 100 trillion with nothing to back it up. 1 trillion for the unavailable instruct model and considerably less for the chat model is most likely.
swexbe··on Google doesn’t want employees working remotely anymore
Most people at my office seem to get sick from their kids who in turn get it from daycare. Should employees pay for that as well? I guess the alternative is to just never employ parents.
swexbe··on ‘Attractive women 16% more likely to secure startup funding’
> Respect to attractive people from well-to-do families who work their behinds off to not coast on stereotypical advantages.

Hey, thanks! Sometimes I feel like we don't get the recognition we deserve (winky-facy emoji) (hot and sweating emoji).

swexbe··on Apple Vision Pro: Apple’s first spatial computer
Maybe it's a butt full of prepaid debit cards?
swexbe··on The death of self-driving cars is greatly exaggerated
Why are you counting only fatalities? They are low because modern cars have lots of safety features. In 2021 there were 5,400,000 medically consulted injuries related to motor vehicles.
swexbe··on Tomb Raider
Venom, Solid, Solidus, Liquid, and Naked Snake are all different people. Naked becomes Big Boss. Solid, Solidus, Liquid are clones of Big Boss. Venom thinks he's Big Boss. I don't understand what's so confusing? :)
swexbe··on ChatGPT took their jobs. Now they walk dogs and fix air conditioners
Uh huh, your glock won't do much against the AI drones.
swexbe··on Measuring the productivity impact of generative AI
There might be a positive correlation between these things depending on the business model :)
swexbe··on Measuring the productivity impact of generative AI
Could you really expect ASICs to increase performance exponentially if Moore's law is dead?

As for new algorithms, surely this would be more of a logarithmic increase for any specific problem as it gets harder and harder to improve on existing knowledge. Has, say, sorting become exponentially faster since Tony Hoare invented quicksort in 1959? My guess is no.

swexbe··on Measuring the productivity impact of generative AI
Could it be possible! This old saint has not heard in his forest that Moore's law is dead?
swexbe··on Automate the CEOs
Great, with AI management maybe asset owners will finally get a board of directors who represent their interests and not the interests of the board themselves.
swexbe··on Examples using Photoshop’s new “Generative Fill” feature
How many work hours would it take for the average professional artist to get to this level of technical proficiency? Given the opportunity cost I'm sure you could argue it would be a net loss for the employer.
swexbe··on Downtown San Francisco is at a tipping-point
Profit should be aligned with public good. That's where the system is currently failing majorly. Most people in all economic systems will strive for self-gain. The great thing about capitalism is that it realizes that this will always be the case and tries to co-opt this basic human desire into something good.

Normal countries don't have these issues (to the same extent atleast).

"The evil westerners are keeping us poor and our people are emigrating"

"East europe is increasingly more relevant"

You appear to have some cognitive dissonance.

swexbe··on BratGPT: The evil older sibling of ChatGPT
It crashes when I ask it to tell me my name. The location part was pretty cool though :)
swexbe··on AI can’t do hiring because it lacks the data

swexbe··on Google Bard blocks all European Union countries
Imagine fucking up Afghanistan (and Iraq and Vietnam etc etc) so amazingly hard yet still saying this lol.
