United States decided that our children shouldn't have the right to grow up in this world.
So that, I say, I would rather not take part in any world that United States shapes.
Their objective is to ban foreign and domestic competition (including open source) via heavy regulation and achieving a monopoly status.
Perhaps you are under the naive assumption that they are willing to compete in good faith?
With these laws, they are pushing 99% of people out while saving face from being called racists.
I think every country should have a right over their borders. Japan wasn't built on multiculturalism like United States or Canada, so I'm not surprised.
That being said, I would probably think twice about traveling to Japan as a tourist.
These can cause serious damage to the lives of ordinary people.
This is what happens when executives suffer from AI psychosis. They were already impatient, now with AI all they care about is feature velocity.
The faster they can hit that refresh button to see the features, the quicker sales can close the deals for them.
AI has basically sold them to wet dream.
Everything is then run by excel people with metrics. Innovation dies, product suffers and company spirals downward.
As long as you make a good argument that's not flippant or rude, people will engage with it.
I hold very controversial points of views and never really experienced personal attacks (perhaps sometimes downvotes but that's not a deal breaker for me) when I express them here.
More to it, I tend to upvote comments I disagree with it.
If anything, it has been proven that unless you have nuclear weapons, your country is at risk of being attacked by nations that have them.
Ukraine learned this the hard way, so did many other countries in the Middle East and elsewhere.
As a Canadian, I can promise you that this not a "knee jerk reaction".
Replacing TRUMP with a democrat isn't going to solve it. Canadians have realized that relying on United States is a national security risk, hence the government been building larger trader alliances with both EU and China.
Any American thinking that this is just a TRUMP thing is missing the forest for the trees.
Basically, the billionaire elites and their employees are panicking because they fear their funds are at risk when the bubble bursts.
Interesting take, coming from a nation that has caused:
- 210,296 violent civilian deaths in IRAQ
- 500,000 civilians killed om Japan
- 70,000 civilians killed in Vietnam
- 46,000 civilians killed in Afghanistan
- 3,000 civilians killed in IRAN
- Threatened to exterminate Persians civilization, blown up bridges, killed children and destroyed civilian infrastructure
I think United States should be sanctioned.
Yes, pay and money matter. It's why people go to US rather than Canada.
If you can only afford rent on a Canadian salary as a tech worker without much profit, why come here?
Canada has bad weather, expensive large cities and an overworked health care sector.
At least Europe has better weather and social services.
Iran already knows and have shared their technology with them.
The billionaire elite CEOs have suddenly had an epiphany and are now trying to save humanity from AI?
or that they've realized they can't compete with China ?
More like they've realized that the foreign models are quickly catching up and are able to sell their services cheaper to people thanks to China subsidizing their AI sector.
Elon, Dario and Sam are banding together to restrict AI to avoid competition and losing profit. They simply want the government to heavily regulate the technology so that they can reign it in with full control.
I bet you would be making the same comment if crypto was being developed by Anthropic. Dario would write a long essay, lecturing us on the dangers of it. He would argue that this technology can be used to by terrorists and should be heavily restricted.
The best part of your comment is that US couldn't even defeat the Houthis, who literally wear sandals in the desert.
It had a profound effect on me in introspecting my long software career.
1. Claim AI is dangerous by performing a whole bunch of malicious stuff
2. Lobby to get Chinese competition banned, kill open source models as well
3. Only get themselves "certified"
4. They have complete control, profit.
Both Anthropic and OpenAI have been pushing this narrative, everything from AI is sentient, to AI can build biological weapons and in between.
Their employees also have a big incentive to amplify this everywhere. Their stock options heavily depends on it.
The phone carriers then upsells their more expensive plans.
Ubisfot is a perfect example, look at their "Watch Dogs: Legion" for example. They decided to get creative and give you random characters generated by AI.. it turned out to be a disaster.
Another one is their Far cry games, where they copy and paste the same events but slightly different, all over the map and call it a day.
I think these efforts more have to do with bean counters taking over the industry than game designers being lazy. I'm sure there are plenty of talented people working at these studios, but they are held back by MBAs.
