svlasov··on Working with Git Worktrees in Magit
> I guess that's just how git works.

You can use `--force`:

> If <branch> does exist, it will be checked out in the new worktree, if it’s not checked out anywhere else, otherwise the command will refuse to create the worktree (unless --force is used).

svlasov··on 216M Spy TVs – The LG Smart TV Problem [video]
What about LG smart soundbars? I always kept the TV offline but the soundbar, if not connected to internet, exposes an unprotected hotspot that anyone can connect to and take control over the soundbar, forcing you to connect it to internet.
svlasov··on Helsinki Hacker News Meetup
Too bad this requires using WhatsUp.

svlasov··on Trae.ai: A Free Alternative to Cursor with Free Access to GPT-4o and Claude-3.5

svlasov··on Cedit: A Single-File C Text Editor That Runs Everywhere (Even Your Router)
Indeed looks like a kilo fork without any attributions.
svlasov··on Vim Developer Bram Moolenaar Posthumously Receives the European SFS Award
Link to the video in the article is broken, the correct link is https://download.fsfe.org/videos/peertube/fYwrRaaw8qQhauiG2n...
svlasov··on Leaving Neovim for Zed
If you know what you want to build, typing becomes a real bottleneck.
svlasov··on Tree for Unix/Linux
Apparently this is just a mirror of the original tree tool source code, which dates back to the 1990s.
svlasov··on NVIDIA Transitions Fully Towards Open-Source Linux GPU Kernel Modules
All `g_bindata_k*.c` files are essentially blobs with no source provided:

https://github.com/NVIDIA/open-gpu-kernel-modules/tree/main/...

svlasov··on Show HN: C-Based Ansi2html
Also see https://github.com/kilobyte/colorized-logs which is very performant and available in every distro.
svlasov··on 8cc.vim: Pure Vim script C Compiler
I wonder how much faster it would be if it was written in Vim9 script.
svlasov··on Ventoy: Remove BLOBs from the Source Tree
I wonder if somebody already tried to compare installations made via Ventoy and not to spot any differences.
svlasov··on The Light Phone III
They couldn't fit a 3.5mm audio jack.
svlasov··on IDEs we had 30 years ago
Vim has many features that do not belong to a text editor, like `:make`, `gd` or even QuickFix.
svlasov··on Neovim v0.9.5 Released
> I really wish Vim would add Neovim's Lua API

If by that you want Vim to become compatible with Neovim Lua plugins, Vim will have to add and maintain compatibility with the whole Neovim non-Lua API as well (new functions, options etc). This will never happen.

svlasov··on Show HN: Advanced Tab Manager for Firefox
Having a separate window per tab will consume more resources, than showing only a single tab content at a time.
svlasov··on The Future of the Vim Project
gvim and vimscript9
svlasov··on Emacs is my new window manager
Yes, that's possible. You can set any X11 window as a child of another X11 window, the parent window will be responsible to manage (taking care of window geometry and what not) child windows.
svlasov··on Displayport: A Better Video Interface
Is there an affordable 4-port DisplayPort 1.4 switch? How are they almost 10x more expensive than HDMI variants? Paying 500€ for a KVM box is not justifiable, I only want to avoid physically re-plugging the cables.
svlasov··on Ask HN: Is There a TUI Shell?
The closest I can think of: https://github.com/netxs-group/vtm
svlasov··on 10x C++ Editor
For example I would be interested to see a debug mode with expandable variables and call stack, git changes highlight, flexible split layout with tabs support, toolbars if any, terminal integration, compilation log, file tree navigation, syntax highlight on non-trivial code, popups with symbol info, scrollbars minimap, markdown rendering.
svlasov··on Vim 9.0
Vim script has a long history and initially it emerged from vi commands. It is intended to talk to Vim internals, so any other language will always look and feel alien in this regard. I hope Vim script will continue evolving, albeit breaking backward compatibility.
svlasov··on Vim 9.0 Released
Neovim is only compatible with very old Vim plugins or plugins that target both Neovim and Vim via compatibility layers.
svlasov··on Vim9 Script Feature-Complete
I wish instead of `endfun`, `endif`, `endfor`, `endwhile`, etc. Vim9Script would have gone with a more unified syntax like curly braces.
svlasov··on Self Organising WS2811 LEDs
Since LED can also work as light detector, I wonder if it would be possible to calculate a similar positioning map by detecting the flashes of nearby LEDs.
svlasov··on Unix as IDE (2012)
I created something that enables the scroll based on process name https://github.com/noscript/tmux-mighty-scroll
svlasov··on Show HN: Simplest File Renamer 1.0.0
