sus_007··on Unveiling the first-ever image of a black hole [video]
Here's an animated explanation of the process by the Event Horizon Telescope. https://youtu.be/hMsNd1W_lmE
sus_007··on How I'm able to take notes in mathematics lectures using LaTeX and Vim
I'm surprised to see not enough mentions of Emacs's Orgmode which clearly dominates Vim when it comes to note-taking with or without Latex. Not to start another Vim vs Emacs war, I've been using both of them for quite some years now for each of their specialties. But when it comes to Notetaking, Orgmode is hands-down far superior with it's rich plugin ecosystem & minor modes within. Some plugins I use to do Latexy stuffs on Emacs is (ofc) Auctex, latex-preview-pane, PDFTools. Finally, OxHugo to export my Latexy org as a blog post to my Hugo blog.
sus_007··on The Book of Secret Knowledge – A collection of lists, blogs, hacks
+1 The entire Arch Wiki is itself a gem of "secret knowledge". (:
sus_007··on What Impossible Meant to Feynman
> Feynman thought a moment and, much to our surprise, replied “Yes!” So every week for the next two years, my roommate and I joined dozens of other lucky students for a riveting and unforgettable afternoon with Dick* Feynman.

I don't know if that's meant to be a typo or an intentional name-calling ? Can somebody confirm ?

sus_007··on Open source, privacy-enabled smartphone operating systems
He was just being nice.
sus_007··on Alarming Decline of Quality Youth Playtime
With current availability of Low-cost Internet in those "3rd World Countries", the viral spread of Pop culture & Social Media has been already degrading the studious young population. It's only a matter of a decade or two, before most of them will start streaming Gameplay on Twitch or accept YouTube Vlogging as a Full-time Job.

sus_007··on Tell HN: Merry Christmas
Not quite hacky, but a hot lemon-tea with extra honey & holy basil leaves might help.
sus_007··on Tell HN: Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to fellow HN'rs from the lap of Himalayas :D (Nepal)

Thanks for sharing this. Definitely made my day :D
sus_007··on To Fix Back Pain, You Might Have To Change The Way You Sit
I think taking frequent breaks during long hour sitting session is also equally, if not more important than how we sit. I usually set a "Pomodoro Timer" for 25 minutes and walk around the room for at least a minute during the breaks.
sus_007··on Blogging with Emacs org-mode
+1 , really nice integration. I use it daily for my blog. Kudos to you. (:
sus_007··on What did Earth look like X million years ago?
The creator himself had posted this earlier at HN. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17286770
sus_007··on Google Plans to Launch Censored Search Engine in China, Leaked Documents Reveal
I think the original article deserves the URL spot. https://theintercept.com/2018/08/01/google-china-search-engi...
sus_007··on Computer science as a lost art (2015)
What have you been doing since then ? Are you pursuing self-study ? I'm curious .

Maybe because the article was originally a gist[0] itself.

sus_007··on Ndb – An improved debugging experience for Node.js
IntelliJ & Webstorm are two different IDEs manufactured for two different purposes.
sus_007··on Assembly Language for Beginners [pdf]
Fun fact: both sources have precisely the same favicon as well.
sus_007··on A Parable by Dijkstra (1973)
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I'll surely learn Haskell now, after I'm done with this book.
sus_007··on A Parable by Dijkstra (1973)
Is Haskell still a preferred introductory language to enter the Functional Paradigm with? Or do you think other alternatives do a better job at that than Haskell ? I'm learning Scheme with the SICP Book ATM, and am confused where to go next to get better at Functional thinking(and programming).
sus_007··on Ask HN: Favorite note-taking software?
+1 for VimWiki, it's just simple enough for decent note-taking although it's not as highly customizable as org-mode. Btw, I think the internal linking features and others do not work with Markdown syntax of VimWiki after the export, or have you figured out something ?
sus_007··on A browser extension to make Medium more readable
When I want a readable Medium, I simply toggle the Firefox's built-in Reader View(Ctrl+Alt+R). It's readable enough for me.
sus_007··on What do Stanford CS PhD students think of their PhD program? [pdf]
The link is dead ?
sus_007··on What do Stanford CS PhD students think of their PhD program? [pdf]
Is Klee something like LaTeX ? What is it actually ?
sus_007··on What I would do differently if I was learning to program again
> ...either before graduating college, or right after, etc. - work for yourself and not The Man...

Why do you think that would an appropriate moment to do so ?

sus_007··on What I would do differently if I was learning to program again
I'd just buy the book on the subject and leverage their respective web docs instead of watching lengthy videos of people talking about the thing.

Looking back at it, I regret not investing in quality books rather than some online subscription.

sus_007··on Advice
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. True, it is in fact the desire to learn was the intrigue of an unknown experience sensation that makes me jump from one ship to the other, frequently. I guess I need to work on my discipline and focus on a single tech stack for a considerable period.
