supremesaboteur··on Portugal Dominated Angola for Centuries. Now the Roles Are Reversed
> late stage capitalism

Much later than the capitalism in most advanced economies ?

supremesaboteur··on Why We Terminated Daily Stormer
> Because yesterday the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES defended white nationalists and neo-nazis on national TV

No, he reiterated his condemnation of them multiple times

> The codebase may be ugly but who cares

Code quality matters indirectly here. Wordpress is known for it's massive number of security flaws. If you don't watch for new versions and update regularly ( and who has time for that ? ) consider yourself hacked

It was not an anti-diversity "manifesto"
supremesaboteur··on Outraged about the Google diversity memo?
Democrats spent a lot more money on these races and were still not able to win. This is clearly a problem for them. The swing in margins can be explained by the fact that the President's party mostly always loses some points
supremesaboteur··on Outraged about the Google diversity memo?
This article also has a few problems

> I believe for example if it wasn’t for biases and unequal opportunities, then the higher ranks in science and politics would be dominated by women. Hence, aiming at a 50-50 representation gives men an unfair advantage. I challenge you to provide any evidence to the contrary.

Claim bearers are burdened with proof. Otherwise I can say 'I claim it is not so and if you believe otherwise you provide evidence to the contrary' and we would be a bunch of children shouting nonsense

> I’m not remotely surprised, however, that Damore naturally assumes the differences between typically female and male traits mean that men are more skilled.

He didn't say that

> The biggest problem with Damore’s memo however is that he doesn’t understand what makes a company successful. If a significant fraction of employees think that diversity is important, then it is important. No further justification is needed for this.

No, what makes a company successful is the positive impact it has on employees, customers, the communities it operates in and shareholders

> Biases and unequal opportunities are real. (If you doubt that, you are a problem and should do some reading.)

Why assume your readers can only reach conclusions if they are dumb ? Why not point out the specific readings that you have done ?

> And let us be clear that, yes, such policies mean every once in a while you will not hire the most skilled person for a job. Therefore, a value judgement must be made here, not a logical deduction from data

Value judgements should also be subject to logical deductions

supremesaboteur··on The Culture Wars Have Come to Silicon Valley
If you listen to these types of arguments you would think that the Democrats have figured out how to synthesize healthcare out of thin air and the Republicans are putting a stop to it
supremesaboteur··on The Culture Wars Have Come to Silicon Valley
The Right is not fighting for the rights of corporations. They believe that a free society best protects the rights of the little guy
supremesaboteur··on Note to Google Employees from CEO Sundar Pichai
This is the moment. Google used to be this dream place to work, not anymore. If other companies want to hire good conservative/libertarian engineers, they should motion loud and clear that they will not ostracize employees for having a differing political opinion
supremesaboteur··on Google Fires Employee Behind Controversial Diversity Memo
> But, like a lot of other reasonable people, I'm not open to that dialog

One of the reasons why even gruesome speech is considered protected is so that people with such opinion can speak out and let everyone know who they are. If someone speaks in favorable terms about sexually abusing children, you will think twice about sending your children to that person's home. However, if such speech is prohibited, you will never know this person's intention and that would put the children living near that person at risk

You personally do not have to debate them, but their speech should still be protected

Sunlight is the best disinfectant

supremesaboteur··on Is America Encouraging the Wrong Kind of Entrepreneurship?
> Ironically Sweden has moved in the past 20 years from a fully public healthcare system to a mixed public/private model (similar in many ways to a voucher approach where the customer picks a provider).

So the healthcare quality could be because of privatized healthcare ?

supremesaboteur··on Is America Encouraging the Wrong Kind of Entrepreneurship?
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Healthcare_in_Sweden

> Costs for health and medical care amounted to approximately 9 percent of Sweden’s gross domestic product in 2005, a figure that remained fairly stable since the early 1980s. By 2015 the cost had risen to 11.9% of GDP -the highest in Europe

> According to the Euro health consumer index the Swedish score for technically excellent healthcare services, which they rated 10th in Europe in 2015, is dragged down by access and waiting time problems, in spite of national efforts such as Vårdgaranti

Seems like the effects of socialism is starting to take effect

I could not find much details on public transport in Sweden

supremesaboteur··on Why you should not use Tcl (1994)
Stallman was criticising the lack of arrays etc in Tcl which stops it from being used for building complex applications. Tcl author John Ousterhout responded[1] to this by saying that Tcl is a mere glue language and not a replacement for C/C++ and we need both type of languages.

If you look at today's language landscape, you have langauges like C, C++, Java etc occupying the "serious" niche and languages like Python etc occupying the "glue" niche ( although sometimes these languages do exchange roles ). The "glue" languages that succeeded did have support for arrays etc.

I think both parties have been proven right, at least partially.

supremesaboteur··on ZFS on Linux v0.7.0 released
I assume the thinking goes like this :

ZFS was designed for enterprises. Enterprise software has requirements of high stability, scale etc. Google is probably on the extreme end of these problems. So if Google considered and rejected ZFS it probably means it was not very good.

What probably really happened was that Google was already too invested in Google File System and therefore did not give other file systems a fair chance

supremesaboteur··on Why I’m Learning Perl 6
For Python there is no native support for threads because of GIL. You can get around this through multiprocessing etc but these are hacks
supremesaboteur··on Lawsuit: Sexual harassment ‘victim’ was San Francisco business rival in disguise
It can be structured so that an accuser does not automatically become guilty of false accusations because the accused was found 'not guilty'. In other words, sexual harassment cases can have 3 verdicts : 'guilty', 'not guilty' and 'other'( technicalities, not enough evidence etc). Then, you will still need to prove that the perpetrator knowingly accused someone of sexual harassment for some gain. Looks fairer to me

supremesaboteur··on Why I can’t have conversations using Twitter (2014)
> But think about Trump. Twitter is his platform, and arguably he is the sort of President a platform like Twitter most directly enables. He gets direct unchallenged access to a mass medium

This is actually not true. Many of Trump's claims are challenged on Twitter and outside of Twitter. Maybe you don't like that he can directly talk to the people rather than twist his words to suit your narrative before heading it over to the masses

> GPL'ing linux hasn't prevented any of the problems you mention, either in theory or in practice, so why do the same thing and hope for a different result?

It hasn't eliminated the problem, but it has worked in some cases to the benfit of the vendors and customers.

For example the open source Wifi router community sprung up from one such effort :

supremesaboteur··on Java 8 vs. Java 9
The rest of the world is behind Java in some developments like container-style isolation of different applications in the same runtime environment. However people still mock Java in things the community is behind. Wait till the cool kids discover conatiner managed transactions. Then it will THE GREATEST THING EVAH !!
