I've seen other projects like Doctrine2 ORM serialize arrays using the built-in serialize function too. I guess/hope they sanitize input beforehand.
supergreg··on HTML to Excel data extraction
Yahoo also has yql, a sql-like language that can filter the Dom and return Json, XML or RSS.
supergreg··on Electron is flash for the desktop (2016)
If it can't use Qt then it's also probable it can't use Electron, otherwise, why don't you just use Qt?
supergreg··on Why your digital games collection isn't yours to own
This is why emulators are important. Console makers should be compelled to release documentation of their hardware when they EOL one of their products so the community can make use of it.

> I see no reason to go digging for problems. When I encounter one, I'll do it then.

It was the same with init, but instead of digging into greppable script files, you need to dig into Google and systemd manpages first, then dig into the actual issues second.

Then why use a GUI to edit the hostname in the first place? Either use sudo or fix the security issues with Xorg.
supergreg··on Twitter refuses US order to disclose owner of anti-Trump account
So Twitter didn't do the right thing then. Does that mean they shouldn't do the right thing now?
supergreg··on A Thank-You Note to the Hacker News Community from Ubuntu
Wait, since when is sudo considered dangerous? Forget the GUI for editing the hostname file, we have much more important things to worry about if that's the case.
supergreg··on Xbox One Exploit Proof of Concept Released, Based on Chakra Exploit
Let someone who tried it do the reporting?
supergreg··on Noiszy – A Chrome plugin that creates meaningless web tracking data
Why would you need it in a browser that you trust to respect your privacy?
supergreg··on Automation is set to hit workers in developing countries hard
Don't worry, people will have credit.
supergreg··on Automation is set to hit workers in developing countries hard
Somebody has to build those robots. It can't all be robots all the way down.
supergreg··on Next.js 2.0
Think of it as a way to create your own complex HTML controls like the combobox/select. And just like those, try to give all information it needs to work via attributes or sub-elements.
supergreg··on The High-Speed Trading Behind an Amazon Purchase
In my grocery store they give you 50% discount after 8pm. No need to change price labels.
supergreg··on The Document Which Used to Be Called the MIT Lockpicking Guide (1992)
I have a transparent lock in my desk, great fun for people to try opening and teaches about how secure standard locks actually are.
supergreg··on Isaac Asimov Laments the “Cult of Ignorance” in the United States (2016)
Easier to deal with a "them vs us" than an "us vs some of us"
supergreg··on Introducing Handle – Boston Dynamics [video]
Plenty of videogames have trained people for that. The lower end of the technical elite.
supergreg··on Nintendo announced Switch Dev kits are $500
Don't DevKits have extra ports for you to connect to the machine?
supergreg··on Wall Street Is Giving Up On Twitter
Is there a service that can aggregate posts from people in Google+, Twitter, Facebook, blogs, patreon, etc?
supergreg··on Looking for Work After 25 Years of Octave
I don't know if this should be done by a for profit startup or should be done by foundations like the FSF.
supergreg··on Why Don't We Have a General-Purpose Tree Editor? (2014)
FWIW the editor in Chromium's and Firefox's developer tools are pretty good. I'd really like to see something like that as a standalone tool for both trees and XML and see how far it can be taken.
supergreg··on Interactive command line HTTP inspector written in Go
That's one of my favorite features of the Firefox developer console.
supergreg··on Angular application bundles using Rollup, Webpack and the Closure compiler
How about comparing the gzipped version of them? That way larger names will be much less of an issue.
supergreg··on New seat alert app for pregnant commuters
That happens to me and elderly people. I never know when they are elderly enough to offer my seat.
supergreg··on Android permissions and hypocrisy
But can apps sniff in what website or app you are using the password? Either for iOS or Android, if the password are just random strings unique for each site and they can't determine that then the attack vector diminishes.
supergreg··on Show HN: Privacy-focused, ad-free, non-tracking torrent search engine
You can use aria2c on the command line to generate the torrent file from the magnet link, so it's just as easy, only a little slower.
supergreg··on Show HN: Privacy-focused, ad-free, non-tracking torrent search engine
> magnet urls in plain text

A magnet as a link would be more useful. I'm sure the people worried about letting others know what they download can copy the link without clicking anyway.

supergreg··on Show HN: Privacy-focused, ad-free, non-tracking torrent search engine
It's frustrating when you are downloading one big rar file just because you need one of the small files inside.
supergreg··on Astronaut – YouTube videos with almost zero previous views
Sounds like a feature. Would polluting my history help prevent YouTube from recommending me the same stuff over and over?
