superflyguy··on The day I found Saowen.com had stolen my content
I'd be tempted to include blogs about/links to Tiananmen Square protests etc then report the copies to the Chinese authorities. Possibly do something similar for Russia about homosexuality or whatever.
superflyguy··on Parachute use to prevent death and major trauma when jumping from aircraft
No, The Butt by Will Self.
superflyguy··on Show HN: A mobile-friendly, web-based, countries of the world game
Long-press the back button.
superflyguy··on An Open Letter to Elena Ferrante, Whoever You Are
Salinger has certainly got this reclusive business down to a t - nobody's seen or heard anything from him for a good 8 years now.
superflyguy··on LG Releases Gram 17 Laptop: An Ultra-Thin Notebook with a 17.3in Display
If it doesn't have to be portable why spend that much on a laptop at all? Why not get a desktop you can at least sensibly upgrade/fix etc?
superflyguy··on LG Releases Gram 17 Laptop: An Ultra-Thin Notebook with a 17.3in Display
So you believe that a reviewer or perhaps a random internet commenter making a statement for or against a feature such as a headphone socket "gives attention" which is picked up by a company as it works on the spec for subsequent models? How would that work? How would you know whether the person was going to buy one anyway, or wasn't an idiot - what if you get some people who like it and some who don't? Wouldn't you just stick with the status quo, or talk to people who know what they're talking about?
superflyguy··on Neither PWA nor AMP are needed to make a website load fast
Sadly, Chrome doesn't support extensions for mobile. Firefox does, which is the (only) reason I use it but that's obviously not going to be around forever. If the choice is ever surf with ads/trackers or don't surf I'll be not surfing.
superflyguy··on The latest on Messages, Allo, Duo and Hangouts
Google barely sells phones. They might have done with Nexus but they sell as many Pixels in a year as Apple do in 3 days. I know no-one with a Nest. They're still very much an ad company.
superflyguy··on Modern China Is So Crazy It Needs a New Literary Genre (2016)
Why, was Buddha around after Jesus then?
superflyguy··on Microsoft is building a Chromium browser to replace Edge on Windows 10
There's always one.
superflyguy··on Google Container for Firefox – Prevent Google from tracking you around the web
Please provide me with a list of topics I'm not allowed to joke about.
superflyguy··on I still miss my headphone jack, and I want it back
"In general, drop "lol", "lonely fanbois" etc from your vocabulary if you want your statements to be taken seriously."

Thanks for the advice but I appear to be immune to this "social networks and digital media causes depression" issue, as I couldn't give a fuck what anyone thinks about me.

superflyguy··on Google Container for Firefox – Prevent Google from tracking you around the web
If that's your angle, remember that that nonsense included explicitly the suggestion that one problem with tracking might be when you "get involved with a terror group", along with other drivel about "digitized karma" and unwanted ads. If you don't want ads, run an adblocker. That's literally what they're for.
superflyguy··on Google Container for Firefox – Prevent Google from tracking you around the web
No it's not just you. I block ads with ublock origin. The end result of the tracking is targeted ads, and as I don't see any of them I don't care how accurate they are.
superflyguy··on I still miss my headphone jack, and I want it back
What's your source for the reason iPhone sales are dropping?
superflyguy··on I still miss my headphone jack, and I want it back
Fragmentation! Lol! The only people who seem to care about "Android fragmentation" are lonely Apple fanbois. It makes no difference to Android users as the version of Android you run and the apps you can install/websites you browse are entirely unconnected.
superflyguy··on Scammers are changing the contact details for banks on Google Maps
Stack overflow is pretty popular. Although their recent attempt to "be nice to new users" (which wasn't necessary before, and coincides with the quality of answers rapidly approaching that of Quota) suggests that this won't last forever.
superflyguy··on Amp – A complete text editor for the terminal
Even if you were someone for whom the page is clear, you might still be confused by why someone who would need to take a not insignificant amount of time getting their development machine installed and configured correctly but would balk at having to type - just once at any point during the lifetime of their laptop - a single git clone to pull down their config.

Neovim (https://neovim.io/) makes a thing about how it's got "strong defaults" but there's got to be the least compelling reason to use it.

Newcomers to vim are generally encouraged to use it as-is and make their own config changes as and when they need to, and experienced users will have config which gets enhanced to meet whatever circumstances they're confronted with, but none of this requires a completely different editor.

superflyguy··on Amazon admits it exposed customer email addresses, but refuses to give details
Presumably because nobody cares about the security of email addresses. The part of their system which handles credit cards hasn't been shown to be compromised, but maybe Gmail's spam filter needs to work a little harder. (I've already spent longer writing this than I spend going through my spam folder each year)
superflyguy··on Amazon admits it exposed customer email addresses, but refuses to give details
Why would anyone care if you had their address, or email address? Why would Amazon be interested in going into details about an email address leak? Outside of a handful of people who get excited by every leak no matter what, nobody cares. It's an email address. You get some more spam maybe? Big deal.
superflyguy··on JAB Code – A high-capacity 2D color bar code
Facebook and Google use QR codes to link phones and desktops. It shows the QR code and your point your phone at it and that's it. I can't think of anything quicker. People sometimes say they're ugly. Who cares? You'd rather type a load of random crap instead?
superflyguy··on The Media Industry and the “Make-Google-Pay” Fantasy
That's the same as elsewhere though. You never need to state something is copyright; it already is.
superflyguy··on The History, Controversy, and Evolution of the Goto Statement [pdf]
It's more clean in the way breaking or continuing from for loops and switch statements are. Or don't you approve of those either?
superflyguy··on The History, Controversy, and Evolution of the Goto Statement [pdf]
You could always add a comment "this is not a loop" if you find it puzzling that the language allows you to loop zero times.
superflyguy··on Italy’s olive crisis intensifies as deadly tree disease spreads
I'm not sure how you didn't pick up on the fact that this was not about scientists being ignored.
superflyguy··on Italy’s olive crisis intensifies as deadly tree disease spreads
No, but this is unprecedented for a developed country.

Yes, they were eventually cleared. Great. Some doubts remain but it cannot be proved beyond all reasonable doubt that they were witches. Not guilty!

superflyguy··on The History, Controversy, and Evolution of the Goto Statement [pdf]
I've seen and use that. It's perfectly readable once you understand it's not a loop. It's handy on c, where you can't try...throw (or don't want to in c++) where you want to do a few things which you want to treat in a transaction-like manner. You would return success from the last line in the do loop and handle errors outside the loop. It's not just about mindlessly avoiding goto; it's about writing clean structured code.
superflyguy··on Overturned polygons: shapes with less than two sides
Read the article again and explain why you think the headline is wrong. (Hint: this morning my walk to work was less than three miles.)
superflyguy··on Chess Is the Killer App
I'd agree with this. (Agadmator I find hard to understand what he's saying, plus a lot of the "analysis" is him saying "A4...b6...b6...")

Other worthwhile YouTubers are Eric Rosen, and the GingerGM.
