superduperycomb··on DARPA open sources resources to aid evaluation of adversarial AI defenses
Whatever you say, skynet
superduperycomb··on Sexual assault has already started in Meta’s Horizon Worlds metaverse
How is this any different from a person groping your avatar in second life? The display is just different. If this is tantamount to assault then the zombies in the last VR game I played need to be behind bars. And the kids in VR chat that do silly things to others.

You can take the headset off at any time. Unless of course, Poe’s law. But I think I’m just an outlier of opinion here. I’ve used VR heavily since oculus dk1 days.

I think folks are buying into marketing too heavily. It’s just a different display medium

superduperycomb··on Show HN: IR stove thermometer, firmware in Rust
What are some resources you’d recommend for me to understand this level of firmware development better? I’d love to understand it a bit deeper than a quick code review
superduperycomb··on Ask HN: Have you ever been boreout? If so, how did you cope/fix it?
My honest answer is Ritalin. I occasionally use it to get into a groove again and it helps me explore new interests that I can continue the momentum with off the prescription. This might be controversial and or unhelpful, but it’s my personal experience with this. My job is steady and well paid, so I don’t want to move to a stressful startup. I also have adhd since childhood, so YMMV.
superduperycomb··on Ask HN: How can I make wired Airpods Pro?
You can use them while they’re charging
superduperycomb··on Hackers are stealing data today so quantum computers can crack it in a decade
That’s how it’s pronounced, no?
superduperycomb··on Toxoplasmosis associated with entrepreneurial initiation and performance (2020)
This sound like the hair brained rhetoric a cat parasite host would cough up
superduperycomb··on Why extraterrestrial life may not seem alien
I believe if you look at their genetics they fit snugly within the tree of life
superduperycomb··on Catholic priest quits after “anonymized” data revealed alleged use of Grindr
I do not disagree with you one bit, and appreciate the thoughtful response. Though tinder and other dating apps do not have age verification either. We probably need photo id verifications
superduperycomb··on Japan pitches 'Society 5.0' to keep its edge in tech and science
It’s a joke my dude
superduperycomb··on Catholic priest quits after “anonymized” data revealed alleged use of Grindr
I’ve used it simply to make friends. It’s not always about sex
superduperycomb··on My mindfulness practice led me to meltdown
Anecdotally mindfulness increases my neuroticism by becoming too self aware. I’m curious if anyone else experiences this?
superduperycomb··on Programming by Poking: Why MIT Stopped Teaching SICP (2016)
Would you kindly briefly define “compositional agglomerative syncretic approaches”?
superduperycomb··on I made a mistake with Terraform and Azure made it worse
“I” create dozens of ephemeral terraform deployments for every iaas every day using terraform so I don’t have this luxury. Do you have any suggestions for keeping tabs on automated systems beyond spend anomalies?
superduperycomb··on A new brain implant automatically detects and kills pain in real time
I hope your friend can seek another doctor if this is debilitating. Empathy doesn’t always get a fair voice in prescribing guidelines / decisions
superduperycomb··on Menacing ‘famine weed’ grows more toxic as carbon levels soar
I’m a skeptic of this, but couldn’t you control oxygen levels in industrial scale indoor grows?

Edit: this isn’t cannabis. Keeping post because lol

superduperycomb··on New dark matter map reveals cosmic mystery
Those are all example of observable phenomena. Dark matter is an inference made by inconsistencies with theory. I think they’re vastly different because it overstates the certainty. Maybe I’m splitting hairs
superduperycomb··on U.S. CDC looking into heart inflammation in some young vaccine recipients
Anecdotally I experienced chest pain after my Pfizer vaccine. I’m not claiming it’s anything but coincidence, though this does raise my concern slightly.
superduperycomb··on Michael Burry of ‘The Big Short’ reveals a $530M bet against Tesla
Isn’t that in line with the GME community. They also bet against the short sellers
superduperycomb··on Neural implant lets paralyzed person type by imagining writing
I can type far more words than i can spell
superduperycomb··on The mortifying ordeal of pairing all day
It’s funny you mention ThoughtWorks, I’m happily (enough) employed right now. But I’ve thought about applying for years. I appreciate the offer :)
superduperycomb··on The mortifying ordeal of pairing all day
I have ADHD and pairing is liberating. I don’t need medicine, I can stay focused and motivated for years. I’m seriously worried that I’ll have to get back on medicine because the pairing opportunities in the industry are becoming so far and few between. If anyone has recommendations I’m all ears (and eyes)!
superduperycomb··on UFOs shows government competence as either surprisingly high or low
Yeah there aren’t three fixed points of either disbelief, true middle ground, or belief. It’s a spectrum and I fall more towards the disbelief point in this case, but that doesn’t stop me from critically evaluating the possibility that I’m on the wrong end of the spectrum
superduperycomb··on Writing advice should stop targeting people who hate to write
This is how programming generally feels to me. I love having written a useful / interesting tool or function, but sometimes getting started is like pulling teeth.
