superdeeda··on Ask HN: Can anybody recommend a lite CI for the CLI (Linux)?
What do you mean?
superdeeda··on Ask HN: Son is major in CS, but doesn't code. Red flag?
This does not check out. Some of the happiest people I know are also some of the poorest people I know. And some of the unhappiest people I know are also some of the wealthiest people I know.
superdeeda··on Ask HN: Son is major in CS, but doesn't code. Red flag?
Posting on forums about whether your adult child is tinkering or not is probably past that middle ground, to be honest.
superdeeda··on Ask HN: How to learn more about servers?
> Also, your questions at this point are extremely vague.

I think the OP acknowledged that when they said more advanced topics whatever they might be.l and asked for suggestions for resources to learn from. Otherwise how should they know what they don’t know?

superdeeda··on Ask HN: Good open source repos with decision process?
This sounds right up your alley: http://www.aosabook.org/en/index.html
superdeeda··on Ask HN: How to Learn Django in 2023?
I enjoyed "Two Scoops of Django": https://www.feldroy.com/books/two-scoops-of-django-3-x
superdeeda··on Ask HN: Why is Ruby so poorly documented?
What do you mean with "It just isn't documented in the way you are typically used to, coming from Python"? Is the difference that it's documented in various "unofficial" places rather than in a single official site like in Python?

I've had the same experience as the OP and still haven't figured out where to find proper Ruby documentation.

superdeeda··on Ask HN: Complex dynamic websites on S3?
If with "dynamic", you still mean client-side rendered, then yes, it's the same as deploying any other static website with or without JavaScript.

You can follow a tutorial like this one: https://www.newline.co/fullstack-react/articles/deploying-a-...

superdeeda··on Best major for good money while also having a social life MIS or CS?
Some more questions I’d suggest asking yourself: - Do you enjoy programming? If yes, CS. - Do you see yourself working in more of a corporate environment (MIS) or startup environments? - Are you better at logic or parrot learning? For me, for example, I had a lot of free time at university because CS doesn’t have a lot of coursework you need to memorise and I was quick with the logical and practical parts.
superdeeda··on Ask HN: Anyone else regret leaving an old job for a new one?
I have, but only in the first month or so. I know a few people who went back to working at their previous company after leaving though and it worked out well for them.

Did you leave on a good note? Did they offer you a counter-offer before you left?

superdeeda··on Ask HN: A way to search for how a website was created
https://www.kali.org/tools/whatweb/
superdeeda··on What Harvard doesn't teach you
No, because I didn’t expect my academic CS and maths education to teach me about web development and startups. I could gain these skills easily enough during a few internships and my first year as a dev.
superdeeda··on Ask HN: What do you want to learn from current technical founders?
How to come up with product ideas and how to test their viability quickly.
superdeeda··on Ask HN: dealing with weirdly-named degrees
No one’s going to think you got a degree in IT Support. In my experience, employers don’t care about the specific name of your degree. As long as it included a good amount of computer science-related modules.
superdeeda··on Ask HN: You have to switch professions tomorrow, what do you choose and why?
Baker or mathematician. Maybe both because baking might be a good time for my brain to rest and wander a bit.
superdeeda··on Ask HN: What are some things you wish your onboarding included?
- Sessions with stakeholders and users of the software they’ll be working on to understand how they user the software and what their gripes are, etc. - Walkthroughs with other devs about your software architecture, any key business rules/internal concepts within your software.
superdeeda··on Senior developers are leading the great resignation movement
100% with you on this. Where are all these new companies, who are investing in all these one-dev startups, how did all these devs suddenly discover product market fits, ...?
superdeeda··on Ask HN: Struggling to make progress at my internship
Is there anyone at the company you could talk to about your struggles?
superdeeda··on Ask HN: What are the best websites that the Anglosphere doesn't know about?
Nice! Any other Dutch websites you can recommend?
superdeeda··on Ask HN: What is the most rewarding thing you learnt/ recently?
Two- and three-ball juggling. It wasn’t hard to learn and easy to see improvement day by day.
superdeeda··on Ask HN: What are the best podcast episodes on software engineering?
Software Engineering Radio: https://www.se-radio.net/. Specific episode: I really enjoyed the OAuth2 one: https://www.se-radio.net/2019/08/episode-376-justin-richer-o....
superdeeda··on Ask HN: Best Books on History and Politics?
I found How Democracies Die by Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt to be very accessible for a politics/history noob like me. It contains a bunch of examples from all over the world of countries that either fell out of democracy or managed to retain their democracy after it was under threat.

superdeeda··on Ask HN: What are you interested in that the fewest others are interested in?
Really enjoyed this Darknet Diaries episode about Costas Tsalikides' apparent suicide: https://darknetdiaries.com/episode/64/.
superdeeda··on Ask HN: Co-workers paid more. What to do?
You can use that offer to negotiate with your current employer. If your friend hasn't given you a number yet, ask what they'll be willing to offer you. Use that number to talk to your current employer and say something like "I got this offer from another company. I really enjoy working here and if you can match this offer, I'd rather stay here."
superdeeda··on Ask HN: PhD vs. job @Google vs. starting a startup
I think it really depends on your specific circumstances, current interests, etc. There have been successful people who went through any order/combination of your three options.

There have been highly successful founders who dropped out of university, others who became founders after doing PhDs, someone like Martin Kleppmann who became an academic after selling a few successful businesses, etc.

I'd suggest doing whichever of three peaks your interest most at this stage.

superdeeda··on Gron – Make JSON Greppable
The author of tool did a really nice tutorial on doing bug bounty recon using Linux in which he also used Gron: https://youtu.be/l8iXMgk2nnY?t=1335
superdeeda··on Ask HN: How to Securely Share Passwords?
We use pass (open source password store) with gpg: https://www.passwordstore.org/.

There have been similar threads on HN with some good resources in the past btw, like this one: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7772650
