superconductor··on Lavabit abruptly shuts down
Can we get a list going of non-US alternatives of popular apps most of us use?

Let's start with Dropbox. What's the alternative?

superconductor··on Snowden Wikipedia page edited to label him a "traitor" from Senate computer
She probably wouldn't go near Wikipedia - a haven for radical idealists to spread their propaganda. It'd be flat-out unpatriotic.
superconductor··on Two Stories of Passive Income Excess
Save your tales for the campfire. Seriously.
superconductor··on We Can All Resume Googling Backpacks And Pressure Cookers
Who are you to tell me it's okay to compromise my privacy?
superconductor··on Employer Tipped Off Police In Pressure Cooker/Backpack-gate, Not Google
Biting my lip so hard it's bleeding.
superconductor··on The Startup Legitimizer
Great idea, but Forbes is anything but legit.
superconductor··on HootSuite Raises $165M Series B
Yup, use them up, spit them out, ??? and profit.
superconductor··on Google Pressure Cookers and Backpacks, Get a Visit from the Feds
Next time the cops are slow to respond to my noise complaint, I'll know what to do.
superconductor··on Google Pressure Cookers and Backpacks, Get a Visit from the Feds
You'd have to be a fool to use Google nowadays. You might as well cc the NSA when gmailing somebody.
superconductor··on Edward Snowden leaves Moscow airport
One less worry to burden my mind. Congratulations Mr.Snowden. Stay safe.
superconductor··on Snowden granted 1-year asylum in Russia, leaves airport
Ugh, I know you meant well and are in support of Snowden (as am I) but try not to shoot yourself in the foot when making a point.

There's so much wrong with how you framed your argument that I won't bother picking it apart. Again, I know you meant well and I'm on your side.

Just don't join a debating team quite yet.

P.S. And YAY for Snowden!

superconductor··on Ask HN: I’ve burnt out at a megacorp and don’t know what to do next
You are asking strangers the question you alone must figure out. Give yourself some time away to figure out an answer. There are no shortcuts here. You need time away and only you can do this.
superconductor··on How to encrypt files on Google Drive
Totally disagree. Protect your privacy. There is strength in numbers.
superconductor··on Starbucks’ WiFi goes Google
I can tell you: it's the library.
superconductor··on SF Airport officials making arrests of Internet rideshare drivers
Rideshare drivers are exempt from regulation, vehicle inspections, insurance and driver requirements? I'd be upset too if I was a taxi driver.

Regardless, the taxi industry can easily defend against Uber and their ilk. It's not a high barrier of entry quite frankly. Uber helicopters on the other hand...

superconductor··on [dead]
Read E-Myth. Then you'll know what to do.
superconductor··on Ask HN: What kind of volunteer jobs have you done that have changed your life?
Canadian Mental Health Association, because I had so much in common with the people there, and the local food bank, because a year later I ended up needing the service myself. It saved my life.
superconductor··on Ask HN: What books should I read re marketing for my website?
Weird. I've read almost every book listed so far, and I wouldn't recommend any of them for what you're looking to do.

Most, if not all of these books are strategic. You want tactical. Get a book like "Attention! This Book Will Make You Money" and try out some stuff there.

And good luck on the app!

superconductor··on Ask HN: I can't think straight, my life is in limbo, and I want to end it now
It sounds like you have a lot of upside. You're smart enough for law school and a good enough programmer to get hired by a company.

Now you're going through a down cycle in your life. That's only natural. What you need now is to identify what resources are available to you. Find your safety net: are you eligible for employment insurance? Social assistance? Where is the local food bank?

Identify what you may need and start making phone calls and visits.

Your situation isn't much different than a severe storm warning. You know a storm is imminent. You need to calmly and purposefully make preparations. Bunker down. You'll survive and be wiser for it.

superconductor··on South African chef 'too fat' to live in New Zealand
Next it will be "you are too stupid to live here" or "your personality is sufficiently grating enough to deny citizenship".

Laugh, but that's where it goes from here.

superconductor··on Passive Income Hacker vs Startup Guy
I tried doing the passive income thing. I set up dozens of blogs with adsense, amazon affiliate links and sold software.

What happened surprised me: it was soul-crushing. I felt dirty. Turns out that meaningful work is what fulfills me. Making "free" hands-off money doesn't excite or inspire me. Totally a learning experience.
