Any plans for that or even just an API so I can write one?
As in a few terabytes of data, >10k ops/second territory.
I've been really disappointed with its reliability and performance in situations where I've been around that.
I appreciate the work that's gone in to Spark and it's clearly well designed. Developing with Spark after coming from a Hadoop background was a very refreshing experience.
I put several weeks in to moving our machine learning pipeline over to Spark only to find I kept hitting a race condition in their scheduler.
After doing a bit of searching, it seems this is actually a known issue https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SPARK-4454 and there's been a fix on their github for a while: https://github.com/apache/spark/pull/3345 and yet in that time two releases have swung by bringing a tonne of features.
I ended up having to drop Spark ultimately because I wasn't confident about putting it in to production (the random OOMs and NPEs during development weren't great either). Does anyone have any positive experiences?
I still labour under the assumption that NREs make doing anything like that _extremely_ expensive.
The two stores are completely separate, your popularity on either will not help you on the latter unless you're bringing a big marketing budget with you or have something truly unique and viral.
There are plenty of popular Android games that have virtually no player base on iOS.
Yahoo's purchase of Tumblr for nearly a billion dollars is a great example. That asset will likely never give Yahoo a return.
Let's now throw the baby out with the bathwater.
After seeing how they acted after their security breaches, I left for DigitalOcean. I've also recommended DO over Linode to other people for that reason.
I should note it wasn't the fact they had a security incident, that happens. It was the way they 'communicated' it.
I have virtually no reason to upgrade from my X220 (i5 2410, 8GB/SSD+HD) unless it breaks. Sad.
I am clearly on a vastly inferior one with t-mobile and should switch.
It could be as simple as storing the magnet links themselves.
OVH will rent you servers for as little as a month at a time, for a _massive_ reduction in cost over AWS. We're talking >10x. Are there really startups that only have capital to last a week?
Do you think the climate has changed since then to make it much harder?
Is this really true? I'm very sceptical.
Does anyone have any evidence to back this up?
"Mr McAuslan said there was an urgent need for rules to be tightened before much larger unmanned cargo planes - potentially the size of a Boeing 737 - took to the skies."
sounds intriguing. Are we really close to that happening? I was under the impression the CAA restrictions around unmanned aircraft were still very tight.
Any impartial thoughts?
Microsoft's investment was really just a settlement with Barnes and Noble in everything other than name.
Microsoft sued B&N (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12814018) for infringing on the patents it's been collecting royalties from Android manufacturers for. B&N then counter-sued (http://www.phonearena.com/news/Barnes---Noble-countersues-Mi...).
Once Microsoft invested in the Nook business, the whole thing got dropped. Makes you wonder if Microsoft were concerned that B&N actually putting up a fight might bring the whole of their lucrative Android licensing business in jeopardy.
