stuartjmoore··on Felix Salmon: the NYT paywall is working
Sounds like a pro-piracy business model, too (music, Photoshop, etc.).
stuartjmoore··on F.lux makes the color of your computer’s display adapt to the time of day
I love F.lux, I just wish there were a (jailbroken) version for the iPad.
stuartjmoore··on College Students Can Now Rent Textbooks Electronically From Amazon
Point #3 is purely a UI consideration, one where electronic textbooks could easily outdo their paper counterparts. Need to know the value of a constant in an equation? Just click on it.

The Internet and electronics will turn learning upside down. Let's hope we don't drag our feet.

stuartjmoore··on Poll: Are you using the G+ circles feature when posting?
I wish I could post something publicly, but not push it to every circle, only a few. That way, it's "on my record", but not bothering everyone I know.
stuartjmoore··on The first Google eBooks-integrated e-reader
They both use Adobe DRM, so you can read Google Books on a Nook now, but a dedicated store would be nice (although counter to B&N's store, so unlikely).
stuartjmoore··on Poll: Google+: Like it/prefer it to FaceBook
Apathetic to both (yet still use both)?
stuartjmoore··on A preview of Gmail’s new look
I really hate the holographic look of the tablets. I hope the seachange of Larry Page, Andy Hertzfeld, and the designer of WebOS pays off.
stuartjmoore··on A preview of Gmail’s new look
The main reason* I bought a Nexus S today is because I'm hoping this trend bleeds into Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

*that, and because Sprint isn't getting the Pre 3.

stuartjmoore··on How (not) to sell your iOS app
An angled disc-bullseye exploding into pieces? The actual depiction won't be as important as the graphical touches. Right now, your non-3D graphics are a little amateur.

Also, can you make the balls a little more spherical? They're the main focus of the game and the background kind of overshadows them.

Actually, why are they spheres and not discs? Discs would look better (more traditional) and add difficulty when they rotate.

stuartjmoore··on How (not) to sell your iOS app
The biggest change I've ever seen is when I changed one name from "* Lite" to "Free *". Went from about 100 to 1,000.

Regardless, I stopped promoting my best selling apps and they sell exactly as many copies.

stuartjmoore··on Silvio Berlusconi 'bunga bunga' sex parties iPhone app launched
This is the worst news story ever. No link to the app or even a screenshot?
stuartjmoore··on Senate Bill Requires Permission to Collect & Share Location Data
Isn't "permission" already buried in the EULA?
stuartjmoore··on A Sidenote on iOS Notifications
I'd like to see eink used like this.
stuartjmoore··on HTC pays Microsoft $5 for each Android phone it sells
The math says more on Android than Windows Phone 7: http://www.asymco.com/2011/05/27/microsoft-has-received-five...
stuartjmoore··on Why Isn’t Google Chrome A Part Of Android?
If they just rename the browser "Chrome" (or "Chrome mobile"), it would be pretty good for branding and making Google seem less fragmented.

On the other hand, a lot of Android's userbase is less tech-savvy who may not make the connection. "Browser" is pretty obvious to what it is.

stuartjmoore··on Why I get my entertainment via BitTorrent
They get money from ads, and what ad company will pay for users outside of their market? Ad-free is wasted bandwidth.
stuartjmoore··on [dead]
Do something good: kid. Do something illegal: man.
stuartjmoore··on Apple: Building A YouTube Killer?
TL;DR Author thinks Apple should build a video upload service, forgets about MobileMe.
stuartjmoore··on Announcing Live Streaming for Amazon CloudFront
It's Flash Media Server, which supports more than just streaming to Flash. Soon, it'll do HTTP Live Streaming through HTML5.

stuartjmoore··on Hulu Is Popular, But That Wasn't the Goal
"Technology is changing so fast, and, as a direct result, so is consumers' behavior," said Jordan Levin, chief executive of the TV and Internet studio Generate. "One of Hulu's problems was that it accelerated changes in behavior faster than the companies were prepared for."

Hulu didn't change behavior, people were watching TV online long before, now they're just doing it legally.

stuartjmoore··on Ask HN: What podcasts do you watch regularly?
For something a little different, my choice for non-Hacker Newsesque podcast would have to be Comedy Death Ray Radio (http://www.earwolf.com/show/comedy-death-ray-radio-scott-auk...).

The single funniest thing I've ever heard.

stuartjmoore··on Textbook Publishers Invest Millions In Digital Textbook Startup Inkling
Why doesn't every college charge students $400 for textbooks and then just give them all DRM-free epub files? You can't steal if you're forced to pay, and who's going to notice an extra $400 on tuition?
stuartjmoore··on NYTimes: A Letter to Our Readers About Digital Subscriptions
Their pricing seems too straightforward. $15 for .com and smartphone. $20 for .com and tablet. $35 for .com, smartphone, and tablet. 35 = 15 + 20...

.com, smartphone, and tablet should be less than the first two combined. Incentivise people to pay more by making it seem like less.

stuartjmoore··on The Amazon Android Tablet I'd Buy
A "Kindle Color" would hurt the Kindle brand. Whenever I tell someone I have a Nook, they respond with "Oh, the color e-reader?" They don't even know an e-ink Nook exists.

Kindle == e-ink. Anything Amazon Tablet related should stay away from Kindle; closer to the movies and TV on demand.

stuartjmoore··on New Facebook Feature Empowers the Dangerous "Comment Nazis"
Bad start-up idea: a website that lets people control multiple Facebook accounts as if they're one account with different "friend contexts". Or, something that makes lists on Facebook useful.
stuartjmoore··on It'll soon be illegal in Europe to differentiate insurance risk by gender...
The real question is: what makes a group okay to "discriminate" against?

Is it my driving experience (i.e. age)? How many incidents I have had? My ability to afford a safe car or live in a nice area?

Where are we allowed to draw the line?

stuartjmoore··on Poll: iOS developers how many apps have you published?
8 on my store, 1 for a group I'm in, 2 for a company, and a few in development.

Only one or two actually make me any money (besides the freelance checks).

stuartjmoore··on Square Drops Per Transaction Fee
I haven't used it in the field yet, but I just received my Square device. Great hardware and software for something I thought was vaporware.

The $1 limit on credit cards is annoying if you want to sell something at $0.99 though.

stuartjmoore··on Do the non-religious have greater brand loyalty?
Brands, religions, cults, gangs, families, friends are all basically the same thing to humans: belonging to a group.
stuartjmoore··on Google TV’s Minisite Launches, Finally Sheds Some Light On The Platform
I'd like to get a Google TV web browser for my desktop. Watching TV from bed on it would be much easier.

Hopefully it'll just be a user-agent switch.
