stuartd··on Eric S. Raymond – This is the case against AI Doom – pass it on
On a repellent platform as well
stuartd··on I hate you Microsoft
> Please stop using windows. Please stop using proprietary document formats.
stuartd··on Google Has Removed MV2 Extensions from the Chrome Web Store, Including UBO
The latter two potentially yes, as they can sell a product. Chrome - not so much: sell the browser, embed ads… nothing palatable.
stuartd··on The Art and Beauty of Blade Runner (2015)
> But nowhere close to the emotional impact

It may be trite but “Because if a machine, a Terminator, can learn the value of human life, maybe we can, too.” gets me every single time

stuartd··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (July 2026)
Photos Wallpaper - recreates the functionality from older Mac OS versions to rotate photos from your library as wallpaper, changing on a schedule.

Written by Codex with me driving product direction, reviewing, testing, occasionally scolding, and handling the release process.

Accepted onto the Mac App Store last week.

stuartd··on Building from zero after addiction, prison, and a felony
Thank you for that link. I recommend reading to the very last line.

stuartd··on Nook Browser
I loved Camino. I think I still have the binary on my MBA just to look at the icon and sigh
stuartd··on Reinventing how .NET builds and ships (again)
It is, shall we say, more curated
stuartd··on .NET 10

stuartd··on Over 80% of sunscreen performed below their labelled efficacy (2020)
https://altruistsun.com/

I have vitiligo and basically no skin pigment above my neck line - this product is excellent, reasonably priced, and ethical

stuartd··on Windows 11 is a minefield of micro-aggressions in the shipping lane of progress
I’m using Windows 11 at my new job and wow, it really is horrible (always been a server OS user at work, Mac at home)

This whole thing about it opening links in Edge despite your preferences is just.. bizarre! It’s like they had a bet on “hey what’s the most user hostile thing we can get away with?!”

stuartd··on Max, a Real Programmer
I remembered this story the other day but couldn’t remember the name - and then coincidentally came across this link to it! https://users.cs.utah.edu/~elb/folklore/mel.html
stuartd··on They don't make 'em like that any more: Sony DTC-700 audio DAT player/recorder
I used to have a DTC-690 - brilliant for parties. Sold it for £1 in the end to a happy customer.
stuartd··on Git Notes: Git's coolest, most unloved feature (2022)
The post links to a GitHub page, which contains this:

> I just blogged about the new git-notes functionality over at the [Pro Git blog](dead link)

stuartd··on 3 Years of Remote Work
The actual title is better:

stuartd··on The Machine Stops (1909)
There was a decent BBC Radio 4 adaptation of this in 2016 - no longer available on iPlayer but it’s on YouTube -

stuartd··on IronRDP: a Rust implementation of Microsoft's RDP protocol
I remote desktop from my Mac into Windows for work. I used to then remote from that Windows into another Windows server, at which point figuring out what the keyboard mappings were became extremely difficult!
