storywatch··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
I wonder if it's made by the same people behind

https://aphrodite.global/

The project was partially started by some students/scholars from there.

storywatch··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
I tend to prefer to avoid LitRPGs, they rot the brain and everything becomes a minmax number hacking endeavor.

Try Charles Stross's Accelerando and the Laundry Files series if you need good sci-fi. Foundryside and Empress of Forever are also decent. If you want fantasy, The Name of The Wind and Discworld are classics.

Isn't PornHub Canada's biggest tech company by traffic? They are hardly anonymous.
storywatch··on Previewing the Model Hardware Standard
More like MCP for robotics. IMO they are better off getting the robots to use existing human UIs than trying to get hardware manufacturers to play ball.
storywatch··on Hit anything. Discover how it rings
Love it, it's a breath of fresh air compared to the usual vibe coded SaaS that's dominating Show HN these days.

Any plans to launch a competitor to the ForeFlight Sentry? The current Sentry is severely overpriced.

A normal non ADS-B iPad GPS flight module is almost 10% the price of the Sentry

Does Calibre support S3 these days as a storage backend?

I assure you it's most certainly not waterproof in any reasonable sense of the word. The seals and glue on that thing is nowhere up to the standard of modern smartwatches.
storywatch··on Ask HN: In your experience, what are sound conventions for e-ink UI development?
A lot of times the e-ink display can handle much higher refresh rates but the driver board and software are trash.

See the modos for what a clean sheet eink design would look like.

Good catch, the content calendar revalidation code needs updating.

Worse, at least with boats most of them are made in this century.
storywatch··on Kaisel – Routes as Values. Dart 3 Native Router for Flutter
The biggest issue with Go Router is that they keep changing the damn API. I can't believe the release cadence of a Flutter navbar library is faster than entire JS frontend frameworks like Next.js

How's their performance in English prose? We are currently searching for cost effective ways to keep story wikis up to date.
storywatch··on Physicists Solve a Muon Mystery. Now, Old Results Don't Add Up
It's good for the world but terrible for the practitioners in academia. Imagine you are in your last year of your PhD and then something new comes out and completely invalidates/obsoletes your results. Cough natural language processing PhDs during COVID when GPT-3 came around..

Their pricing...also leaves much to be desired. They are almost at Big Three cloud/Vercel level of cost with none of the stability. Their anycast network however is decent.
storywatch··on Unlimited OCR: One-shot long-horizon parsing
Haven't read the full paper but thr local generation window is a little small, especially since image inputs are especially token heavy. Depending on where the local attention layer is located, it would be nicer if it's bigger e.g. 4096 words at least.

It's an aggregator for fanfiction and web fiction. Planning on adding some Reddit like and social features.

storywatch··on The Rise and (Potential) Fall of Letterboxd
The stack isn't anything too interesting right now, it's a pretty standard web stack. The architecture is a lot more distributed than I would prefer mostly because of the data ingestion pipeline. There's a lot more manual work that goes into this than it looks on the surface because many of the web fiction/fan fiction sites don't have proper APIs/RSS feeds. The big ones do but a significant percentage are just random WordPress sites where stuff can break at a moment's notice.

I will probably set up a Discord group for it if there's more interest, I have been getting a lot of requests for one from the user base (they don't particularly like email support, I suggested IRC or Zulip but I don't think most of them cares enough).
