stilisstuk··on People who press on cookie banners anything except “agree” – why do you do that?
My understanding; ip adresses are considered personal information. You are allowed to store them in your log for security purposes, without consent (legitimate interest). But if you use that log for analytics, you need consent.
stilisstuk··on A new wave of Linux applications
I have a be trackball and a vertical mouse. Both expensive. Both without proper scroll.

Many trackwheels on are also slow at of you want to flick many pages down.

I rely mostly in keyboard.

stilisstuk··on Swiss army restricts use of messenger apps for military purposes
This is specifically for military communication https://www.dencrypt.dk/
stilisstuk··on The purpose of DRM is not to prevent copyright violations (2013)
Where do you buy audio? I don't use apple (itunes) and only some stuff is on bandcamp...
stilisstuk··on Running a Law Firm on Linux
Similar work profile, but: MS office is a huge pain to work with. 30 pages, 3 authors, comments, revi sions, deleted images, and it often crashs. And track changes doesn't work on tables (!)

Mind: LibreOffice is properly worse, but that doesn't change that MS office is abyssmall.

stilisstuk··on Fastmail is having problems again
Me too. This is my third year with them I think. I believe there has been three downs. The worst was for almost a day IIRC.

I like mailfence for several reasons. Quick, at personal support is one important factor.

However I do think it would suit any provider if they publicized an annotated downtown log, so that we didn't have to guess how often or why they had issues.

stilisstuk··on Footnotes now supported in GitHub Markdown
Yes... I do like asciidoc. Think it was lack of easy toolchain in python ecosystem that made me move away from it.

Maybe asciidoc3 har improved the situation.

Never needed bold italics. :)

stilisstuk··on Footnotes now supported in GitHub Markdown
Just use restructured text (rST) already.
stilisstuk··on Manyverse – A social network off the grid
Personally. Yes. Fdroid is a plus. And it's especially annoying seeing it abonded without any explanation.
stilisstuk··on ProtonMail deletes 'we don't log your IP' from website after activist arrested
In that case... I get it. But yeah... Everybody did/does it and it's stupid. And i knew it was stupid back then (even my current mail provider does the same; Belgium yada yada, but have been honest about cooperating with police). I even figured the lifetime option was a sign that they would collapse years ago. But i took a risk, and I have very cheap storage online.

Also. Yes. The Android app is very bad compared to e.g. drive/photos

stilisstuk··on Show HN: Age 1.0 – Simple, modern and secure file encryption
I am not so clever and cryptography is hard. Why should I use age instead of regular gpg?
stilisstuk··on ProtonMail deletes 'we don't log your IP' from website after activist arrested
What did pcloud do?
stilisstuk··on ProtonMail deletes 'we don't log your IP' from website after activist arrested
I am fairly happy with pcloud though. Didn't buy for privacy (i use encryption for that), but for cheapness. I am not aware of any violation of trust like what is mentioned here.
stilisstuk··on Ardour -Audacity Alternative to Record, Edit, and Mix on Linux, OS X and Windows
Fedora uses telemetry. audacity sounds bad, but not all telemetry is
stilisstuk··on My NAS exposes itself over the internet without permission
The 2 hub valica mesh model is a contender :)
stilisstuk··on My NAS exposes itself over the internet without permission
I don't know to be honest?
stilisstuk··on My NAS exposes itself over the internet without permission
Considering linksys WRT3200ACM. Heard pfsense is not good with wireless.
stilisstuk··on My NAS exposes itself over the internet without permission
So I don't know about routers or networks. I live in a an apartment. Which router (+ a extra point / 2 hub mesh) is recommended these days. There seems to be a plethora of options. But most of always end with ubiquity, which today feels like a bad choice. Also kind of expensive. Preferable something Completely local. No cloud service. Preferable opens source.

I live in EU.

(Sorry if it's bad form to ask for product recommendations, but I am unhappy with/ don't trust, my isp provided router, and gp explicitly mentions buying a router)

stilisstuk··on Show HN: Grit – a multitree-based personal task manager
Tiddlywinks is one of those things that is too good to actually monetize. It's amazing software. In you can run on it on a server or on an a flasdrive. Or just from dropbox.
stilisstuk··on Flameshot – Simple, powerful screenshot tool for all major operating systems
No. greenshot is fantastic. But windows only
stilisstuk··on I bought 300 emoji domain names from Kazakhstan and built an email service
What is the rfc regarding usernames? Can emojis only work on the main domain? Can't we have [emoji]@[emoji].kx?
stilisstuk··on Children Playing Blockchain
None. It's the banking system :)
stilisstuk··on Excel Never Dies
Yes pp can handle data. But vba can not. And most spreadsheets contain vba for reporting and magic interfaces for managers. Slow and unmaintainable.

Any day: rmarkdown and csv

stilisstuk··on FairEmail: Open-source, privacy friendly email app for Android
I love fairmail. Can't remember what the problem was with k9. But fair mail can't do everything. And it's slick and modern. Privacy first. Removes tracking images. And also identifiers in images you send out. It's really really good

P.s also f-droid here (ps you can donate with crypto if you want)

stilisstuk··on Total Cookie Protection
(A bit of OT)... which is why I am considering SPAs to be complicit in 'evilness'. All these webpages that require js for no real reason is generally making the web insecure and implicitly hostile and difficulty to navigate. Very few have the mental overhead to evaluate each site, so most just let any page do what ever it wants. Tracking and miners be damned.
stilisstuk··on Migrating to SQLAlchemy 2.0
And the next day on HN people lament ORM's: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26188765
stilisstuk··on Migrating to SQLAlchemy 2.0
1) concatenating. Not always possible in complex cases. 2) I don't think it's that hard to write 'select posts from user where user = ?' 3) I prefer functional to oop. In my small apps writing a function with a transparent SQL have worked fine.
stilisstuk··on Migrating to SQLAlchemy 2.0
Thanks
stilisstuk··on Migrating to SQLAlchemy 2.0
Yes..i have concatenated SQL i must admit.
stilisstuk··on Migrating to SQLAlchemy 2.0
Ha. Yes. I apologise for the auto correct.

Building basic CRUD apps as a hobbyist, I've just never had that problem. My app needs some data. I fire of a query af psocopg2 gives me back my data.

I know I'm the least experienced. So I'm not arguing. I just don't understand it

(I work mostly be with data / BI, so I'm familiar with SQL)
