stevofolife··on Ask HN: C/C++ Project Ideas?
Funny how I got my interest in C/C++ because of the OS course I'm taking right now.

I just read your post regarding it. Do you recommend additional resources that can help get into writing your own OS in C/C++?

I'm not sure that I want to learn Rust, or do you have a motivating reason why I should learn Rust instead?

Thanks!

Can anyone recommend a good way to digest a public filing? Like understand in a nut shell way, instead of reading through the whole thing.

Agree. Interestingly, are there any other examples where a problem can be solved with Y instead of X?

Your first paragraph is like saying ship building, plane building or car building isn't or shouldn't be so different from one another. Wait what?
stevofolife··on The Polymath Playbook
Thanks for sharing your sentiments. I tend to associate polymaths with the Renaissance era. People like Da Vinci and Galilei are true polymaths. In modern days Elon Musk is one. However I do think the word polymath is more well-regarded/skilled than a generalist.
stevofolife··on DeepMind AI reading list [pdf]
I wouldn't easily dismiss 3B1B, Lex or whatever resources you've mentioned here. Though you might find them to be entertainment but really people learn in various ways and these resources provide excellent views on the subject. And honestly with all the recent advancement in visual content and media, I would reconsider the sole dependence on hard literature to learn or even question the superiority of hard literature over newer formats.

Lastly, I agree that the title should be resource list.

If you can't teach it, then you don't understand something perfectly. Perfect is a word par excellence. Teaching is indeed a skill but don't confuse it with presenting. A wise guy once said, "if you can’t explain something in simple terms, you don’t understand it". I'm sure OP stands by it and that itself is very admirable.

That's not really the case here but let's say even it is, these big guys are producing most of the work for everyone to lean on. Look at all the open source initiatives out there. Don't stop progress for the sake of money.
stevofolife··on Google I/O 2017
To be honest, your sentiment comes from selfishness. You want a fair playing field so that you can rise up but at the stake of slowing down progress for the entire world. Some fields are meant to be dominated and that's part of life man.
