steveoscaro··on Do not try to be the smartest in the room; try to be the kindest
Side note: I find ChatGPT to be a much better translator. It doesn’t just do literal translations. Here’s how it explained this phrase:

The saying "Maestro Liendre: De tó sabe, pero de ná entiende" generally means that someone appears to know a little bit about many things but doesn't have a deep understanding of any of them. It's used to describe someone who pretends to be knowledgeable but lacks true expertise.

I can't tell if you're in or out of the know on the "true story" part haha
steveoscaro··on America's affordable house of the future failed
And also why it’s possible to buy a perfectly fine house in Japan for $30k USD. Their demographics also contribute to this too though.

Maybe you're thinking of the Air Force supercomputer built using PS3's? https://phys.org/news/2010-12-air-playstation-3s-supercomput...
steveoscaro··on The growing inequality of who gets to work from home
Musk submits to drug tests. But yeah just skimming news headlines would give you a different idea.
steveoscaro··on 2023: The Year of AI
That's all very knowledgable-sounding, but in reality, lots of people are using GPT every day for legitimately helpful and productive things.

Not really
steveoscaro··on The New York Times is suing OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement
X might have a long-term edge if courts start ruling in favor of lawsuits like these? Being able to legally train on all Twitter data…

What’s your point? Because I can’t imagine it’s to suggest that GPT4 doesn’t do anything useful.
steveoscaro··on Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi say they will use Tesla's EV charging plug
The free standard autopilot on teslas makes highway driving much less taxing. I also have an ICE car, but will always take the Tesla on long road trips. Charging stops make the trip take maybe 10% longer, but that’s fine with me.
steveoscaro··on Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi say they will use Tesla's EV charging plug
Good take, I think that’s accurate. Part of me still wants to believe that Tesla as a company also just wants to help speed up the global transition to EVs (more than they already have). Maybe that’s naive though.
steveoscaro··on The US economy and the EU were the same size in 2008, the US is now nearly 2X
Very interesting comment. I've read it a few times.
steveoscaro··on Apple Vision Pro: Apple’s first spatial computer
I did indeed miss that announcement haha
steveoscaro··on Apple Vision Pro: Apple’s first spatial computer
The Quest is not AR focused in the least, it's pure VR. And the hand tracking is clunky. This looks like a very different experience in general.
steveoscaro··on Apple Vision Pro: Apple’s first spatial computer
I have an Oculus2 and a PSVR2, and the Apple headset seems like an entirely different thing. It's meant to replace your mac computer and your tv.

Yes with the headsets I have, you can surf the web and technically try to write code, but it's not a good experience. And those displays basically still suck. You can see the pixels, and the lenses create weird effects. If Apple has solved this, and the presence of the screen and lenses is just "forgotten", it's going to be a huge step forward. It'll be a device to actually be productive on, let alone watch movies and play games, IMO.

steveoscaro··on Apple reveals Vision Pro, a AR/VR headset unlike any other
64 pixels in the size of an iPhone screen pixel is pretty crazy, and feels like they might have made the leap in technology to make the screen "disappear". I have a PSVR2, and the screen is very much not disappearing in my mind on that thing.

Pretty much every single drive from my house since that involves a short freeway on-ramp...

This is SpaceX, not Tesla, unless I'm misreading your comment.
steveoscaro··on Starlink for RVs
The fine print for the Starlink RV system says you can use the terminal outside of your registered country for 2 months, after that you'd have to change the registered address to whatever country you're using it in.

He didn't kickstart the stagnant commercial space launch industry? Really?
steveoscaro··on Twitter set to accept Musk's $43B offer – sources
If you don't think he's doing hardcore fundamental rocket design work at spacex, you've just been reading clickbait articles.
steveoscaro··on Twitter set to accept Musk's $43B offer – sources
Must wasn't a billionaire when he started his rocket company. He had in the ballpark of 100 million. There are thousands and thousands of people that could start a rocket company. And he did it when no private entity had ever even reached orbit with a liquid fuel rocket.
