Easy federal loans got them into an upside down situation from which they may never recover.
I got paid to go to a public university through scholarship, with money on top of free housing and tuition. I could have paid for college, or probably convinced someone to give me a loan given my career track.
There's way too many people who are destroying value by attending college right now, and the bubble will pop. 12 years to get an art history PHD and manage a gas station is not an efficient use of time or work energy.
My friend's dad, a Math/CS teacher, did not believe me until I showed him.
If just the "companies that can bear it" bear it, you'll get less of those stores, as the expected profit yield per store decreases. Less stores is less competition, which will yield higher prices.
This feels a lot like bringing a burrito to your keyboard. You're not doing anything useful while you slop food into your face, and now you have a mess on your keyboard.
I will never need to transition from just-got-out-of-a-formal-dinner to running a marathon. Won't happen. And if it was going to happen, I have specialized clothing that works better for both purposes.
Anyone interested in you particularly will quickly get your phone number, email address, facebook profile, social security number, or whatever they want if they're determined enough.
Even then, I'm not sure what information this database really provides that could be used to gain some fraudulent or exploitive benefit.
I loved SO in the beginning. Now it's a cesspool.
Free markets need not have capitalism, and vice versa, but capitalism will likely arise in any free market.
If Bob produces X, and he wants to sell X for Y dollars, how is it immoral or bad to allow others to sell X for Y dollars, but no less?
This is like saying it's "price fixing" when an app developer charges the same for his product on the play store and the App Store.
Apple did not collude with HTC; they set the price for their product.
I've seen tons of dock connector issues with broken ports, but none with lightning so far.
I have no power to change any aspect of the US military, but that doesn't mean I can't decry it as evil.
Are there people at companies that shouldn't have been hired, or should be fired? Sure, but that doesn't mean you can't take a team of differing skill-set individuals and make great products.
When your product is iterating rapidly, you may suddenly find that your crack team of javascript developers suddenly needs to analyze an sql execution plan. The best guy on the team for the job probably isn't the smartest guy, it's the one whose dealt with these sorts of issues before.
A team learns from each other.
If you hold the premise that minors must be protected against media by the government, then you can't possibly argue that this move is radical or illogical.
I don't give a rat's ass about technology, or which hot javascript framework or build tool I should be using. That stuff is boring.
I care about building products.
I use it as a canonical example of unusable software.
If I had to design hell, it would look something like 2 and a half hours commuting each day.
I'll take my $2k now.
1.) Buy a burner laptop on the street, in cash, then wait a while.
2.) From an open wireless connection, where you're far enough away to not be on any security cameras, use Tor, then VPN tunnel through a high traffic public server in China or Russia. You want to make sure you're not driving out of your way to be at a place at a time, in case the IP gets traced back for whatever reason.
3.) Prepare an elaborate email. Make it good.
3.) Setup an online meeting with someone. Play a video game online, start a skype chat, or otherwise create an alibi for how you couldn't be writing emails.
4.) Send the email through an anonymous email service.
5.) Destroy the laptop as far from campus as possible.
Did I miss anything?
In the end "Chinese hackers" get blamed for the email, and the media attention fizzles.
Play 50 games every time you see him until he gets it.
