staz··on App-Only Banks Rise in Europe and Aim at Traditional Lenders
There is no feature comparison between Business and Premium.

I was under the understanding that the 9,99 would be all inclusive, but at the same time it seems there is a fee for "Paying a direct debit.", not sure what is comprised within that term, does that mean every time we pay with a card?

staz··on End of Greek Aid Package as Country Faces Demographic Crisis
They are going to buy them all then rent them back to the original inhabitants. Then write non ironic post about how everyone should build passive source of income because working a 4 hours week is great
staz··on Smoking around the world
Most countries in the EU are taking steps to combat this and the number of smokers is steadily diminishing, even if too slowly.

I'm more worried about the non smoker countries which the tobacco companies are seeing as new territories to conquer.

John Oliver did a good segment about that two years ago https://youtu.be/6UsHHOCH4q8?t=239

staz··on Ask HN: Why don't people write more (from their expertise)?
HN users can leave a text description on their profile, which you can access by clicking on their username. Usually they put links or contact info in it

staz··on Ask HN: Are there any good Android/iOS games that don't collect personal data?
For Android, f-droid has a collection of open source games [0], I see they have a solitaire game as well [1].

F-droid is a repo of FOSS application for Android, quality vary widely but they are some nice gems.

> It is considered the second-oldest engineering discipline after military engineering,[3] and it is defined to distinguish non-military engineering from military engineering.

So not sure what you intended to mean?

staz··on Ask HN: What are the things that you have automated in your personal life?
Not OP but did a similar project, the display method I used was simply to use 9 led lined up, each representing a stop before mine, to show the current position of the tram.

My idea was based on the top part of this display https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DXGxPtlXkAA0inj.jpg

staz··on The Ornithologist the Internet Called a Murderer
> Many research expeditions are no longer being publicized; in some cases, there is a total blackout on media. As a result, the public will grow even less informed about the importance of this research.

Thanks Internet crowd...

Seriously, however you feel about this topic it should be discussed rationally, not via deaths threats

staz··on GitLab Web IDE
That was their plan but it didn't work out, they talked about it here https://about.gitlab.com/2017/10/04/devops-strategy/ (it's quite an interesting article in general)

> And to be honest, it was what we were hoping that Koding would have provided for us, and we have an integration with them, but it hasn’t worked out, really, the way that we had hoped. And so, we’re looking at alternatives, and we think we can probably do this ourselves.

staz··on Ask HN: How to deal with a dysfunctional relationship with a 50/50 co-founder?
green just mean newly created account

I also find that colorscheme plainly confusing, maybe a tooltip or something to explain the color will help?

staz··on Zelle, the Banks’ Answer to Venmo, Proves Vulnerable to Fraud
What's the deal with you Americans and your magic numbers?

So you have your Social Security Number that you can't give for fear of someone impersonating you, your Credit Card Number you cannot give for someone might steal from you and now you tell me you can't even give your bank account number.

So you have all theses numbers you have to keep secret because they are the gateway to someone ruining your life, yet you still have to communicate them routinely to a number of institutions in order to function in society. Isn't that a bit crazy?

staz··on Interactive Go programming with Jupyter

staz··on Conway's Law
Yep entirely separate instance. I have 6 different slacks tab open for work at the moment.

They also have mails, Skype, Yammer, Ms Team, and a few different conferencing system on top of that.

it's a mess. For example nearly each team have their own Bitbuck, gitlab instance, github org , gitlab org or whatever VSTS use

staz··on Conway's Law
depends on how they talk on slack and who talks to who.

The company I'm working with at the moment has separate slack per team with each time being ~5 persons and then some people from other team on each slack who pass message.... the communication is not great and the collaboration between services isn't either

staz··on OLPC’s $100 laptop was going to change the world

staz··on Ask HN: How do you keep track of your notes at work?
Following a comment I saw on HN a few months ago, I started keeping a daily log for my professional work. It contains what I did that day but also include code snippets and other interesting tidbits I need remembered.

It's a simple text file so I can easily search in it. But I use the 'jrnl' python script to help me append to it or view the lasts entries.

I found the practice very helpful, it helps me track the previous days or if I had to stop in the middle of a task but also help my work/life balance.

I usually set aside the last ten minutes of works to fill it. And if I had to leave in a rush I just send myself a mail from the train so I can append it the next morning.

I don't sync it and just leave it on my computer at work.
