status200··on Investors conclude that Tesla is a carmaker, not a tech firm
I don't think this is true anymore, since they recently started rolling out discounts on vehicles, which is usually a sign of overstock / slowing demand [0]

status200··on Coworkers are less ambitious; bosses adjust to the new order
I would argue that Tesla is losing ground as a high status symbol, at least in the Bay Area. They certainly don't turn heads anymore, it's now Rivian, Lucid, Taycan, Ioniq 5, etc that are the talking points in the fancy grocery store parking lots.
status200··on Qwantify
Wow, fantastic project at first glance. Really looking forward to trying this out since I was about to update my gaming rig, so it is perfect timing to test this as an alternative.

Curious if this opens up cross-platform potential since it is browser based, that would be a game changer if so.

status200··on Toyota CEO Says “Silent Majority” of Auto Industry Is Doubting EV-Only Future
Biosphere destruction is not something that can be ignored forever, prioritizing consumer's preferences is not a feasible strategy. Eventually all the finance talk will be replaced with practical environmental strategy, even if it means some of the middle class is inconvenienced.
status200··on How to Befriend Crows
I play bamboo flute and started playing the same song after feeding a crow that would come by my house, now I can just play the song and I will hear the crow respond from far away and then quickly fly over.

status200··on FTX fiasco sparks billions of dollars of outflows from exchanges
If i had to operate at the lowest common denominator in every realm, it would be a miserable experience. Just because certain people are incompetent doesnt mean that the option should not exist.
status200··on Crypto exchange AAX suspends withdrawals
Having sent $100k via traditional banks as well as crypto, I can add my anecdote that the latter was far easier. Some would argue that it shouldn't be that easy, and I agree to some extent.

Setting up our tax system to be transparent and auditable by any citizen would be the greatest benefit to a distributed ledger, but something tells me that the current institutions would heavily resist that transition, so you are correct that it has little current value.

status200··on The coming long-run slowdown in corporate profit growth and stock returns
Hopefully this does not come across as whining (as i managed to escape the debt cycle), but this really seems like they're saying "the investment money train is over", which is just another slap in the face to my generation, who were already dealt a pretty crummy hand.
status200··on Museum of Failure
I was thinking that this website should add itself to the list since it is so frustrating to use...

status200··on More U.S. companies charging employees for job training if they quit
This particular example is definitely the fault of the salon (the training should have value), but as long as it is disclosed before the training begins, I don't see any issue, since people who know they won't finish the training are less likely to sign up, and of course it should be negotiable for well qualified applicants and exceptions should be made for things out of the trainee's control like family emergencies, etc.

I am pro worker's rights and proud to live in a state with a decent balance of protections, but I am surprised at the amount of people in this comments section who seem to think that there is nothing an employee can do to hurt a company - I have personally heard some of my more "mischievous" friends discuss these tactics, and have seen the cost of grifters who use them to take advantage of companies, from fraudulent (but hard to prove) worker's comp claims, training/benefit poaching, outright theft, etc.

Free speech, and by free they mean speech that they can control.

status200··on Show HN: GhostLabel – Start your own coffee product line
This is a bit of conjecture on my part, but I see many "entrepreneurs" who go on vacation or otherwise encounter the large margin from exploitable cheap labor on cloud forest crops like coffee and chocolate (palm oil and others as well), and cannot resist setting up a co-packing operation and using their network to shoehorn it into grocery stores or shill it to their followers. It is a relatively easy "wealth expansion" play if you are decent at marketing or already have an audience.

There is a large spectrum from slave-owning cacao operations to fair trade and regenerative operations, but for sure the margin is a part of the draw.

It will be interesting to see how food waste statistics are influenced by these supply chain and inflation woes, as well as our interest in mono-cropping soy and corn.
status200··on Eye-tracking is a missing input device for VR experiences
Fairly certain that eye tracking will be standard on the next generation of VR devices (at least from the major players like the Quest Pro [0] and Pico 4 [1]), which is exciting and terrifying at the same time.

status200··on Eye-tracking is a missing input device for VR experiences
I had the opposite experience, my family has a history of motion sickness, but myself and other family members that have tried it have felt really natural in VR. Even my sister could use smooth movement and "advanced" settings, which I never would have predicted.

Our best guess is that the 6DoF system at least matches head movement, which might be the difference that makes our brain(s) not freak out compared to reading in the car, etc.

status200··on Some WFH employees now live in another country
It feels like all that extra work/stress to hide the deception would cancel out any benefit from being in any remote location, even considering the monetary/payroll arbitrage.
status200··on The Follower: Using open cameras and AI to find how an Instagram photo is taken
It is using computer vision to compare the instagram photo with the recorded 'open camera' footage to give the best guess at a timestamp. You can see the CV drawing boxes around the objects it is identifying in the footage on the right side, and it already knows that the photo was taken at the location (since the location tag was used that to scrape the photos), so it is basically just hunting for a person that best matches the subject in the instagram photo.

status200··on Show HN: I built an extension for analyzing rental properties in Zillow
Yes, real estate investors are the definitely the group most in need of empowerment... /s

Edit: The ethics of this project are questionable, assisting real estate investors at the expense of first time home buyers (indicated by the heavy focus of this tool on optimizing profit through rental income) is not what our society needs at the current moment, in my opinion, as it reduces the pool of available homes for sale and forces our society further into separation between people catapulting their wealth and those who just want an affordable house to actually live in with their families while adding an asset to their net worth.

status200··on GoDaddy Statement on Eth.link Domain Registration
I highly doubt that, since they just want to dance around an imaginary problem, and you aren't much better if you think that broken links = broken platform.

Imagine if they put the same amount of effort into ridiculing old growth logging, strip mining, tax evasion, wealth inequality... literally anything but trying to dunk on some nerds playing around with cryptography to try and create a new trustless financial system.

This is why the problem solvers benefit the most in the early days, and why my early investments in ETH are still worth 3100% more than when i started even after the latest corrections. It is easy to recognize issues, but putting effort into actually doing something about it is where new developments actually occur.

status200··on GoDaddy Statement on Eth.link Domain Registration
Unsurprising that Molly does not understand how DNS (or ENS) works, and that eth.link is just a pointer. Admitting ignorance for the lulz is not the Web3 diss they think it is.
status200··on The Age of Distracti-Pression
