stadeschuldt··on Apple updates its iMac line
The Mac Pro has not been updated since Dec 2013.
stadeschuldt··on Show HN: Markdeck – author cool slides, text-only, offline-ready, collaborative
I am huge fan of Deckset and use it for team internal presentations. Unfortunately, corporate identity is not something I could get working with Deckset. :(
stadeschuldt··on Python 3.7.2 and 3.6.8 are now available
For a new project you definitely want to use Python 3 as Python will be EOL in 2020.

For new projects I tend to favor Python 3.7 over 3.6. But sometimes I have to fall back to 3.6 because some packages have not been updated yet and I don't want to install them from Git(Hub) (e.g. GeoPandas through pyproj).

stadeschuldt··on Ask HN: What is the best way to quickly launch a website?
If you know Python you could check out Lektor: https://www.getlektor.com/ I has been built be Mitsuhiko, who also built Flask, Jinja2 and Werkeug. Lektor is a static content management system. You can then host your site on S3 or Netlify.
stadeschuldt··on Top Open-Source Static Site Generators
What do you mean by "It takes a while to figure out how to write a post"? With Hugo it is just adding a .md file inside your content folder, write the blog post and generate the blog with `hugo`. Or am I missing something here? The templating issue aside.

Coming from Python I like Pelican a lot. It also looks like there is an active development going on: https://github.com/getpelican/pelican

I am still wondering, why the last release was made over 18 month ago.

stadeschuldt··on Ask HN: What sensors do you have in your home?
I have a bunch of wireless temperature and humidity sensors in my apartment: http://blog.tafkas.net/2012/10/03/gathering-and-charting-tem...
stadeschuldt··on JupyterCon: I don't like Notebooks [slides]
I would encourage everyone to use https://github.com/kynan/nbstripout before commiting.
stadeschuldt··on Ask HN: Do you get good applications from “Who is hiring?”?
When did Norway become part of the European Union?
stadeschuldt··on Ask HN: Simple, beginner friendly ETL / Data Engineering project ideas?
You could check out https://github.com/mara/mara-example-project

The project is just a demonstrator for the Mara framework but it gives a good overview and you could take it as a starter for something you want to build.

stadeschuldt··on A Map of Wireless Passwords from Airports and Lounges
Could you link the § you are referring to? I don't think this qualifies for § 303b StGB. (IANAL)
stadeschuldt··on The sad state of RSS on the Mac
I am huge fan of Vienna on macOS. Currently I have my ~/Library/Application Support/Vienna symlinked to Dropbox in order to have my feeds synced across computers. I wish there was a better, more robust way.
stadeschuldt··on Let’s celebrate Hugo’s 5th birthday
I am huge fan of Hugo and I use it for my personal blog and some minor websites.

Has anyone used Hugo for something other than a blog? I am looking for some stories like using Hugo as a REST-API or anything other more creative similar to this:

stadeschuldt··on Mara: A lightweight ETL framework, halfway between plain scripts and Airflow
done
stadeschuldt··on Mara: A lightweight ETL framework, halfway between plain scripts and Airflow
Python is more a glue in this case. Most operations are basically unix pipes pushing data in and out of Postgres
stadeschuldt··on Mara: A lightweight ETL framework, halfway between plain scripts and Airflow
Mara is designed to be simpler than Airflow. It positions itself between plain scripts and Airflow.
stadeschuldt··on Mara: A lightweight ETL framework, halfway between plain scripts and Airflow
Here is a conference talk presenting the framework and the ideas behind: https://youtu.be/GdtFuOah-5c
stadeschuldt··on Ask HN: What did you build with your RaspberryPI?
I built a solar panel monitoring solution:

http://solarpi.tafkas.net/

Code is on Github: https://github.com/Tafkas/solarpi

stadeschuldt··on 1.1.1.1: Fast, privacy-first consumer DNS service
A couple of years ago there was a tool built by some Google employee called namebench which benchmarked a couple of DNS servers and helped you to find the best one based on your browser history. Unfortunately, the project seems abandoned:

https://github.com/google/namebench

I remember being in France it was huge speedup over the providers default DNS.

stadeschuldt··on N26 raises $160M from Tencent and Allianz
I looked into N26 but their lack of HBCI support was a deal breaker for me.
stadeschuldt··on N26 raises $160M from Tencent and Allianz
This is not true. Comdirect and DKB are just two banks who offer free credit/debit cards.
