srinikoganti··on AMD RDNA 4 – AMD Radeon RX 9000 Series Graphics Cards
RDNA 4 card announcement without mentioning about ROCm support ?

When will these guys learn/catchup....

srinikoganti··on Ask HN: Are you using Go for web development?
www.stackazam.com is a cloud application built with Go

I have started falling in love with coding/CS again with Go.

Our philosophy is to keep things close to the metal and not use layers as much as possible. Go enables you to follow with approach with the standard libraries that come with the language.

Problem with layers/frameworks is that while they seem to solve immediate problem quickly, layers will rear their ugly head down the road , making you feel helpless during debugging

We use standard libraries

database/sql for database html/template for UI

Only external package used so far is gin-gonic/gin for middleware&routing

srinikoganti··on Amazon's cloud unit readies more powerful data center chip – sources
Ok. I guess it depends on the apps and their dependencies. Typically we run in to library issues.
srinikoganti··on Amazon's cloud unit readies more powerful data center chip – sources
Binary compatibility is the Moat that Intel and AMD have.

Try using ARM based server and you quickly realize the pain.

Besides, other Hyperscalers won't use Amazon's Chips. So no economy of scale.

Do you remember Amazon Phone ?

srinikoganti··on Amazon’s Chips Threaten Intel
This is oversimplification.

Binary compatibility, of millions of third party libraries out there, is the biggest hurdle.

How many years did it take to switch from Python 2.7 to Python 3 ?

AWS lockin is a bigger threat.

I prefer to keep my binaries cloud agnostic and X86 and X64 compatible rather than AWS only code or even ARM binary.

By the way what happened to Amazon phones ?

srinikoganti··on This AI Boom Will Also Bust
What is "new this time" is that computers/machines can see and hear and even speak, whether we call it AI or "Deep Learning" or "Machine learning". So there is going to be more impact from Vision/Voice based applications rather than data analytics/predictions. Eg. Self Driving Cars, Medical Diagnosis, Video Analytics, Autonomous machines/Robotics, Voiced based interactions. All of these combined could be as disruptive as Internet itself.
srinikoganti··on Why self-driving cars are not going to happen
Disappointed that this article even made it to hacker news.

Problem#2: "Liability Issues" doesn't make sense. Geico, Allstate and other insurance companies can easily provide coverage. In fact the insurance gets easier with self-driving cars. Premium might go up or down based on the technology used. But coverage is very much doable.

Driving is so monotonous, that it is a perfect "killer app" for computer vision and cognitive computing.

srinikoganti··on How I stopped the RSI pain that almost destroyed my programming career
After 6 years of struggle with this career ruining pain, I finally found my remedy in Homeopathy. Medicine name is "Bellis Perennis". In olden days it was a popular medicine to treat RSI of Pianists and Stitching workers. I had taken "Belllis Perennis, 1M potency" 3 times(about 20 small pills each time) in only one day. That's it. No need of taking it again. If pain doesn't go away in a week try 1 more day after 1 week. No side effects, since it is Homeopathy. Since I am not a doctor, Please check with Homeopathy doctor before taking it. Thanks..
