sravfeyn··on Ask HN: Have you ever hired an Indian Fresher for your start-up?
Yeah, I realized visa is a major problem and started looking at those that can offer Visa sponsorship.

Start-up community in India is vibrant. I agree. But right now it's in age of infancy. Most of them are too much carried away by 'titles'. The products being built are mostly mashup of existing APIs. Most founders lack long-term vision, lot of people do it as a cool thing. There are few companies with real innovative products.

Mostly the tech-culture that you find in here is nowhere near to that in Valley.

All experiences are personal. I have worked in a very good start-up in Bangalore, attended couple of speed-dating sessions with startups where I interacted with around 20 startup founders. And I attend meetups in New Delhi often.

I am really not so much aware of startup hubs in Europe. Do you know which of them are visa friendly :)

Thanks for sharing your experience :)

Yeah I observed the visa problem and I am now trying to apply for the ones who explicitly mention "Visa sponsorship".

Otherwise how had your experience been with Indian folks?

sravfeyn··on We're doing for payments what MP3s did for CDs
Thanks!!
sravfeyn··on We're doing for payments what MP3s did for CDs
I completely agree with this. The site is not even returning a proper 404 for ill-formatted urls such as https://dropletpay.com/jsds. Instead it's giving a plain 500 error!

Putting aside the feasibility of such an idea at a global scale, the clarity with which the idea is described in such a minimalistic scheme is awesome.
sravfeyn··on Letter to Maharashtra CM
I don't see why it is a bad thing. I did not weigh any positives & negatives, but in India, TV needs to be properly censored. Many political parties have their own News Channels where they twist facts and make own party a hero. There is an example of Sakshi in Andhra Pradesh.

This really needs an attention. And I think by brining TV into PCI, I guess he is trying to attempt to scrub bogus self-promotion of political parties.

Please tell me why this would wrong?

If anybody is wondering this is in response to "a mumbai girl arrested". http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4803350

He is the same guy who published the article "Why I can’t pay tribute to Thackeray"[1] in national news paper The Hindu.

I request OP to edit the title from 'smart judge' to 'former supreme court judge', which makes the HNers know that that articles is worthy of their time and attention. And also I didn't understand 'Smart Judge'

sravfeyn··on First Teleportation From One Macroscopic Object to Another
I have question that suits the context.

Will Quantum Teleportation, if possible, let us reduce, if not remove, the hardware for communications? As in, there will be no need for giant fiber-optic cables or wireless routers?

Many of the ground-breaking research and the research papers I study for my Physics term papers originate from Chinese Scientists. I just mean Chinese Scientists appear more frequently and this is a perfect example.
sravfeyn··on Nokia Unveils a Maps Service
The headline is taken from the article http://www.technologyreview.com/news/507186/nokia-unveils-a-...

I believe by cloud, they mean that the service can be accessed by any device with a browser, removing the necessity for a 'Maps App'.

Looked at the title and thought 'better than Vazirani!?'. Found it out to be Vazirani. It's an incredible book. I was (still am) looking for a print Indian Edition of the book. Is there anyone who can sell it off in India :), second-hand?
sravfeyn··on Uses for cURL
I never learnt cURL, or for that matter missed many of command-line tools because of the laziness to read boring long man pages. This is a perfect example of how a man page should be. All the options explained one by one with simple examples! It took me hardly 5 minutes, now I feel confident in using cURL for my next use.
sravfeyn··on Tesla Model S Service Contract: $600/Year, Or Warranty Voided
With due respect, a 'high level' customer can buy just another car if he has problem with it, he can afford to, while 'low level' customers have to speak out loud because that is all what they have, it is a heavy and rare investment for them.

The 'issue' is not morally acceptable. First of all there shouldn't be any distinction between customers, it is the company's responsibility to offer the best product, whoever the customer is. How can you be ignorant to a customer who invests a big chunk of his earnings to buy your product.

sravfeyn··on Facebook Gifts
May be Facebook will open it's 'Gifts market place' to finely-tested eCommerce businesses through an API!!

This is more meaningful, because Facebook doesn't want to be an eCommerce company. It's vision is connecting the world. And it makes more sense to open the platform to external businesses which are tested for 'great experience'. In this way Facebook itself will not have to be another eCommerce company and it can have just enough control, share and work over the platform.

sravfeyn··on Experiment: Does Googlebot index dynamic content from a JS app? – Shizzle
I am looking forward to the results! I have made a complete client-side AJAX powered movie website. It's home page DOM (latest movie trailers) is filled by firing an AJAX call to a movie API. Google never indexes that page, and I have tried 'fetch as Google bot' which only fetches HTML/JS code. I am thinking to have a server-side dirty escaped-fragment URLs for just indexing purposes. sravfeyn··on Ask HN: What did you learn in building your scalable web application?
Thanks. Can you please explain 3rd point. How is EC2 complicated than Heroku?
sravfeyn··on Google Search is only 18% Search
I always forget that Google does ads on search page, after I installed the amazing AdBlock extension on Chrome.

I don't see Google, Facebook Ads and many more, AdBlock knows what.

sravfeyn··on HN statistics
I am curious where is the data behind these tables being stored inside DOM?
sravfeyn··on Show HN: DeadMouse – Surf the web with just your keyboard.
I started using it. I liked it. But, I use Space button to scroll down. You are eating that away. Felt very irritating. Your 'shortcuts' should not mingle with the existing ones, at least, the most used shortcuts like SPACE button.

Does that mean, for each vertex, is it's sub-graph indexed?!

sravfeyn··on Show HN: I'm releasing. 6months, 1dev. Looking for beta users
This is awesome, considering it is a single Dev's effort! Congrats.

But, there is a fundamental problem in these types of 'Save stories' websites. While we browse internet, we discover many stories, pictures, videos. While we like them and would want to read or watch latter we wouldn't actually re-browse the articles from a saved location just because they were good to read or watch. Mostly the need is, there is something useful in those articles(May be how to do something or a quick reference). Websites attempting to save stories should attempt to let user intelligently capture info from these stories, and these stories should make up a minimal repository without cluttering with all the had-good-time-while-reading articles.

sravfeyn··on Clipboard officially open to the public
I was impressed with the idea in the video, I have signed up, and tried to clip a picture on Quora with Chrome plug-in. I selected rectangular area. Alas, my clip is empty on Clipboard.com :(. You lost a user.
sravfeyn··on 20 lines of code that beat A/B testing every time
Thank you.
sravfeyn··on 20 lines of code that beat A/B testing every time
I can draw many parallels between this and Genetic Algorithms. There is percentage of probability in choosing next choice(In GA, children), and we have highest probability for the most profitable(In GA, fittest) choices. The solutions evolve. And the most profitable solutions (Most fittest in GA) remains.

How is this different from Genetic Algorithms?
