The average age in the US is 26. Maybe your perspective is limited?
squabble··on The need for world government
My understanding of the pro life view is that if someone chooses to put sperm in there, they are agreeing to give up some bodily autonomy and carry the child to birth.

squabble··on Consciousness is not computation
What if "I" woke up in someone else's body? I'm sure there are movies with this premise, where "someone" wakes up in someone else's body, but they have the memories from their previous body.

But if memories are just physically encoded in the brain, I don't think this scenario makes sense even as a thought experiment.

When "I" wake up in the other person's body, I would have all their memories and none of my previous memories. So I wouldn't even know.

squabble··on Consciousness is not computation
That is an interesting thought.

It might depend on how you define "person". When I look around, I see distinct human bodies. When I wake up, I'm in the same body as when I went to sleep, so in that sense I'm the same person.

squabble··on Consciousness is not computation
I think what I was getting at is that it may be impossible to tell from the outside if something is conscious or not. If I can't even prove to myself that another person is conscious, I might have a hard time proving that a computer is conscious.

Maybe I'm the only one who is real, and everyone else are just robots. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to know for sure.
squabble··on Computers are an oppressive technology
Will an AI ever be able to make correct moral decisions? Or is that something only a human can do?

Consciousness is not well defined. To me, this indicates that we don't really know what's going on.

squabble··on Google is wrong. Apple’s iMessage is a failure
Text messaging on cell phones worked fine until Apple got involved. Now when I send a message to a relative, their response goes to my Macbook.

(I have an Android phone, they have an Apple phone)

squabble··on Avoid Meaningless Binary Labels
In my opinion, these are bad names and we would all have saved a lot of brain power if simple and clearly meaningful names were chosen.

The cultural reference in the names preserves the opinion that the choice of byte order is not worth fighting about. But this is an extra piece of information that's not needed.

Moreover, the choice of the word "end" is unfortunate, since it means both "boundary" (as in the 2 ends of an egg) and "conclusion" (as in the end of a transmission).

To make matters worse, they chose to have "little endian" refer to the case where the big (most significant) byte is at the end of a transmission.

Better names might be something like "smallest-first byte order".

Edit: If you are confused, think of it this way:

Little-endian = little end first

Big-endian = big end first

squabble··on The Rise of Performative Work
I hope my surgeon doesn't have your attitude.

You need to both do good work and take responsibility to communicate this to your manager.

If you just do good work, but don't communicate it, your manager might not know and won't reward you properly.

If you don't do good work but only "perform", you lack integrity, you're not developing yourself, you're cheating your customers, and you are a drain on your employer and society.

squabble··on In Response to My first impressions of Web3
A central authority can be advantageous, until it becomes dysfunctional or prioritizes its own interests over the interests of those it serves.
squabble··on Web3 is centralized
It's about fixing asymmetries of information and control.

It's not necessarily about "centralized" vs "decentralized".

squabble··on Apple and Disney among companies backing groups against US climate bill
Why do they put many unrelated things in the same bill? Smaller, independent pull requests seems like a better way.
squabble··on How to make housing more affordable
I think we need to change our attitude towards money.

People hurt each other without intending or realizing it, because it's hidden behind this abstraction called "money".

squabble··on Structured Bible Data API in Multiple Translations
The crux of the issue is that the Bible provided by this API is the modern protestant Bible.

If you are Catholic or Orthodox or are looking for a historical version, you may see it as incomplete.
