I know. HATEOAS...

I understand the issue of mixing state models.. angular SPA style vs HATEOAS.

But that still doesn't answer what I was asking about mixing presentation concerns into business logic. Returning HTML means the presentation layer has to know about HTML. Why would that require the business logic to know about it?

splawn··on Htmx 4.0
I don't understand (possibly because I lack Angular experience): what is it about a .NET backend using HTMX that requires presentation concerns to be mixed with business logic?

Don't you have to maintain that separation either way? Your core/application logic shouldn't know how its result is ultimately represented. That could be JSON or HTML over HTTP, Protobuf over a TCP stream, or a custom binary protocol over a Unix socket.

Obviously those representations matter at the presentation/transport boundary, but why should choosing HTML force that concern into the business logic?

splawn··on Facebook Banned Me for Life Because I Help People Use It Less (2021)
That would have been a MUCH better thing to do.
splawn··on Facebook Banned Me for Life Because I Help People Use It Less (2021)
I was banned for life for pointing out how the Tuttle Twins choice of pricing $14.88 and $88.88 for their children's book bundle sale could be perceived as hate speech.
splawn··on “Spiel des Jahres” Game of the Year 2017 winners
This is one of my favorite games. I love how while it has a "spiritual" theme, the mechanics feel like pure deduction/scientific method.

We are in the realm of opinion, so I want to offer a contrasting one. We had a great time with it, and yes, it was a one-off thing. The scenarios are about $15 a pop which compared to taking the same group of friends to a movie is a bargain. (and MUCH more engaging, imo) It is like a multi-player point and click adventure with light roleplaying elements. I don't know if it should have won the SDJ, but then again, it didn't. :)

EDIT: added more specific description of what I liked about it, in an attempt to up the quality of my comment.

splawn··on Sixth mass extinction: The era of ‘biological annihilation’
With all the current attempted and actual dismantling of the factors you mention, perhaps his predictions just need to be time shifted a few decades. Obviously, I hope not.

splawn··on Podcasts to make you smarter
Im sure those snake oil supplements he peddles on there make you smarter too. /s =P

EDIT: I was just halfway joking when I made this comment (I vaguely knew that he sold supplements for body building)... However, I had no idea about the "Alpha Brain" supplement that he sells. And yes, the punchline is that he claims it provides "cognitive enhancement". And No.. there is no solid science behind it and certainly no doubleblind clinical trials. I only know to care about stuff like this from listening to other podcasts such as "This week in microbiology" and "Skeptoid" that perhaps did make me smarter. (at least I don't fall for supplement scams)

I am guessing your downvoters have never heard of mass extinction events.

splawn··on Author of cURL denied entry to the USA
I wasn't aware of the formulation in my comment when I made it. I was trying to rebut a comment that I felt had a little bit of denial running through it. I am clumsy with words though.
splawn··on Author of cURL denied entry to the USA
The GOP continues to be impregnated with racism thanks to the southern strategy.[0] If you don't think out in the open racist culture is alive, well and considered normal in the rural south, you are fooling yourself.

splawn··on Think Twice Before Ordering Coffee or Tea on a Plane
Boiling time is a function of air pressure, not strictly elevation. Of course if the airplanes you fly on are not pressurized then you are correct.

I think it is funny, Conway doesn't really enjoy being solely associated with GOL and the fame it brings[0].. In stark contrast with Wolfram's ego. Perhaps this arrangement actually works out best for both of them.

Im sure its better than nothing. Also when Trump pulls out of it, its effectiveness is not a factor.

Reminder: He thinks climate change is a Chinese hoax.

try "q"
splawn··on Helping a Million Developers Exit Vim
If you hit ctrl-c then you are no longer in insert mode (ctrl-c acts like esc for some reason), so no, it won't add anything to the buffer and ":q" will get you out.

I don't blame people for being confused though.. I remember getting stuck in vim all the time back in the day because of a default $EDITOR value.

splawn··on M.M.A. Fighter’s Pummeling of Tai Chi Master Rattles China
This was my exact thought. Who cares if in the end its all just a contrived game. In reality, any 10 year old with less than an hr of training and a firearm could "win" a fight against a black belt of whatever.

splawn··on Google announces workshops to tackle the spread of hate speech and fake news
I understand now, and it's hard not to agree with that perspective.

On the other hand, because of the fundamental relationship of the free press and health of democracy, shouldn't there be some kind of criteria for validity the same way that health claims in advertising do, for example? I understand that some things are subjective and impossible to apply criteria to, but what about cases where people are knowingly publishing demonstrable falsehoods to mislead masses of people. Seems like a major problem. Btw, im not sure what my opinion is on this.... Im just "devil advocating", I guess.

EDIT:/foundational/fundamental Im having a hard time with words today. :/

splawn··on Google announces workshops to tackle the spread of hate speech and fake news
I see. Your point is that the principle of free speech is something different than the 1st amendment and the authors of the amendment messed up and allowed a loophole.
splawn··on Google announces workshops to tackle the spread of hate speech and fake news
With the 1st amendment, the government can never censor (with a few exceptions)... however companies can censor whatever they want for whatever reason they want, perhaps ironically, as an expression of freedom of speech.
splawn··on Louisiana’s Governor Declares State Of Emergency Over Disappearing Coastline
If you are stipulating that I am correct, you still consider truth to be "noise" rather than "light"? I guess I am not following your point.
splawn··on Louisiana’s Governor Declares State Of Emergency Over Disappearing Coastline
Every one of those states you listed are experiencing increased coastal flooding thanks to climate change and yes that flooding damages marshlands.[0]

Nowhere have I claimed that the issue in LA is solely AGW.. only that the sizable portion of the problem that is caused by AGW is going to fall on deaf ears in that region because of the amount of oil money there.

splawn··on Louisiana’s Governor Declares State Of Emergency Over Disappearing Coastline
The fact that there is a global average sea level rise to compare it against does.

EDIT: I gave you an upvote for at least reading my source, thank you.

splawn··on Louisiana’s Governor Declares State Of Emergency Over Disappearing Coastline
My apologies, I didn't mean to be condescending. However, It is a fact that sea level rise is a large factor in this, even if it is not the "main culprit". Most people in that area rely on the oil industry either directly through employment or indirectly through the local economy so they tend to have a blind spot when it comes to AGW, which is completely understandable.
