spigottoday··on Comfy with Python basic tooling, now what?
Very informative overall, but: jiffy (I heard the inventor of the word it’s pronounced giffy BTW). From Wikipedia: "First attested in 1780" If you said in a giffy I (and my parents) would wonder what kind of a container a giffy was. If you said Giffy (Jiffy) Lube I might know you were refering to a place to get your oil changed from context. If you said you were going to make a GIF sandwich (Jif peanut butter) I would be very confused because what does an image format have to do with a sandwich?

This index seems to be skiping 11 - 20. Am I missing something (using mobile firefox)?
spigottoday··on Ravansha: Personl AI Therapist
HIPAA rules would apply in the USA if this service is being offered as psycotheapy. I wonder what malpractise insurance would cost if you could even get it.
spigottoday··on You wouldn't steal the sum total of human knowledge and experience to use in AI

lol, one day I was asked for direction from 3 different people walking in the wrong direction that were using googlemaps!
spigottoday··on Google's Plan to Kill the Cookie
I assume that whatever it is will be more invasive and more precise and will increase their leverage over the (your)data. It will not improve privacy.

spigottoday··on Ask HN: Are headlights getting brighter or am I getting old?
There are laws prohibiting the use of high beams when there are other motorist on the road where I live but they are not enforced. If you will be ticked for lack of seatbelts you should be ticked for improper high beam use as well, especially as it affects other motorists.
spigottoday··on Ask HN: Paid Career Advice Services for people in their mid-20s
There is another old saying: don't compare your insides to someone else's outside. Your successful friends could be stressed out nervous wreaks. And there might be people out there that look at you and say: he's got a bad commute but his job don't stress him out and he gets along with and enjoys being with his parents, how cool, I'm jealous. The big question about what to do with your life is important, but it seems like your bad commute is problem you could and should deal with first. It seems like WFH is out of the question but you could ask to come in earlier or later to avoid traffic. If they won't accommodate you find a job with a better commute and or closer to home. You are in a much better position than many people to take that risk. Take some time to reflect on all of the things you have to be grateful for and be kind to your self and protect your self from people who are not kind to you or who try to make themselves feel better by undermining you. Good luck.
spigottoday··on A search engine for searching books in the Z-Library index on the IPFS network
Not an author, are you. Not a lawyer either. When you have spent years honing your craft and spent many months creating a work so that you can buy what you need to live and can't afford to support your self and your family without that income and then YOU give that work away - then I may find some value in your self serving questions. By the way, the answer to your questions is yes.
spigottoday··on January 1, 2023 is Public Domain Day: Works from 1927 are open to all
One negative effect might be that you don't get to hear the music, read the book or view the art because you are not the wealthy patron or one of their friends. That's the way it used to work.
spigottoday··on Finally a good Linux tablet – Fydetab Duo
It comes with rebranded chromium os. I don't care if its got a Linux "subsystem", or an android subsystem either. How well will it operate with just the Linux of my choice on it? Will it be any better or cheaper than what's available now?
spigottoday··on Show HN: I made a simple tool with GTP-3 and Google Sheets for copywriting ideas
Ideas can't be copyrighted. The media that describes it can be. Ideas can't be patented either, you need a non obvious novel invention, a reduction to practice. That the theory anyway.
spigottoday··on Remote Work Drove over 60% of Housing Prices, Federal Study Finds
I don't mean to be difficult, but I don't get it. If I have less money because of a recession the time and expense of commuting could be put to better use: shopping cooking cleaning and taking care of family my self. If I now live in a home and can no longer afford it it makes more sense move to a location with the same or lower cost of living compared to moveing close to a city with a higher cost of living plus the time and expense of a commute. If I didn't have some other pressing need having less money would not motivate me to run to an office.
spigottoday··on MS-DOS was *not* an illegal clone of CP/M
OK, I'm confused. Did Bill Gates write some version of DOS that was marketed and sold?
spigottoday··on Plant-based ‘beef’ reduces CO2 but threatens ag jobs
Co2 is important but water is also a pressing issue:Today it takes 441 gallons of water to produce one pound of boneless beef[0]. There are a lot of numbers for this on the the web,and this may not include water for feed and processing/packaging but its a lot of water, when for example, lake Mead is about to become a deadpool. spigottoday··on Ask HN: Should a professional software dev know how many bits go in a byte?
It's my understanding that the word byte is a contraction of the two words:by eight. Also (fun fact) a half a byte, 4 bits, is called a nibble. May be I'm out of touch but I have never seen a word referred to as a byte outside of an 8 bit processor, words are composed of bytes.
