specto··on Forthcoming OpenSSL Releases 3.0.8, 1.1.1T and 1.0.2zg
haproxy have said during their performance testing that 3.0 performed quite badly so they're sticking with 1.1x
specto··on Get ready for a SoCalGas bill this month, as natural gas prices soar
Yeah. Same in Colorado. And of course Xcel energy just posted record profits.
specto··on Ask HN: How do you exercise?
Why would you consider it a meme? I thought that's the general consensus in recent literature.
specto··on Chinese Police on US Soil
What?
specto··on Z-Wave Alliance Announces Z-Wave Source Code Project Now Open and Available
Agreed! Messes with Wifi too.
specto··on Myocarditis after Covid vaccination: Research on possible long-term risks begins
This is anecdotal, and I still plan to get the latest booster soon, but I have had pain in my left chest since the first covid vaccine. I went to a doctor who ran an EKG but they said everything was functioning correctly. Maybe someone knows if I should get a second opinion? I can no longer sleep on my left side since then as it causes the pain to increase, so I don't believe it is related to myocarditis.
specto··on How fast is 12th Gen Intel Core?
Unfortunately, not even close.
specto··on New documents reveal scale of US Government’s cell phone location data tracking

specto··on Simone Biles, Aly Raisman Suing FBI for $1B over Larry Nassar Investigation
It's there to make a statement, I'm sure there are limitations on suits like this.
specto··on iPadOS 16
I sold my m1 ipad because of this.
specto··on WordPress sites getting hacked ‘within seconds’ of TLS certificates being issued
Fun story. I helped someone with a wordpress site recently where I provided an internal address for development. Once they were done with development I moved the site to the public url and found that most of the pages were broken.

Turns out multiple plugins make changing URLs a feature behind a monthly paywall as a monetization strategy. The sobering thing is that the fix is to update tables in the database. There are various examples in github for these things, however most people just use a plugin that literally does a find and replace for the old URI and replaces with the new. Frightening...

specto··on My take on Elon's offer for Twitter
Been seeing these conspiracy "theories" on HN lately, it's interesting to say the least.
specto··on Facebook staff now to be known as “Metamates”
So far every venture that's tried this has failed due to the lack of smarts. If their smart speakers are even remotely as smart as their XR, this is dead in the water.
specto··on Dell deletes Latitude CPU Throttling issue after link is posted here
Yeah I'd be more worried about the ipad pro or latest iphone. The screen on the pro costs like $700 alone.
specto··on Hetzner Storage Share and Storage Box: Data storage and management made easy
A lot of backup software natively supports S3 like APIs now. Even open source like duplicati, kopia, etc.
specto··on Hetzner Storage Share and Storage Box: Data storage and management made easy
This would be great if it was in their Virginia DC
specto··on Google gives execs raises after declining to boost employees' pay
Same at the company I work for, so this seems to be normal for publicly traded companies.
specto··on Why Not ZFS (2021)
I'm very much hoping this becomes the future of filesystems on linux, but it's very in flux at the moment. I wish some company would hire him and put a bunch of devs on it full time.
specto··on Tesla Model 3 Owner Discovers Car Was Delivered Missing a Brake Pad
Who's fault is that? It's still news....
specto··on I quit caffeine
Exactly. Coffee is fine in moderation, 1 maybe 2 cups a day. Most people who talk about quitting are drinking 3-6 cups.
specto··on MikroTik RouterOS v7 stable released
Agreed... their old edgerouter was much better. Hoping their unifi OS (containerization of their platforms on their hardware) becomes more flexible without the hacks people use now. Until then, I'll keep using my edgerouter...
specto··on Spy camera detection using smartphone time-of-flight sensors

specto··on M1 Pro 14“ MacBook Pro Running KDE Plasma 5 on Arch Linux ARM
I agree with this sentiment. Overall, we should be praising projects like frame.work over proprietary and hard to port systems like the M1. I'm hoping some day the frame.work laptops will have a mainboard available similar to the M1, but I'd rather have repairable than not.
specto··on Zappos CEO’s final months describe drug-addicted psychosis in court documents
I believe they are referring to half of all assets going to your spouse without a prenuptial agreement even if there was a good reason for divorce.
specto··on The FBI's internal guide for getting data from AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon
Until eSNI or similar is implemented across all sites, it doesn't matter much.
specto··on Google has a secret deal with FB called “Jedi Blue” that they knew was illegal
I suppose it's true most people here (not me) is part of the 1% but man it seems strange no one questions this.
specto··on Mosquitto: An open-source MQTT broker
Saw this too recently - https://www.cnx-software.com/2021/09/27/zb-gw03-esp32-based-..., quite nice
specto··on AS13335 doing SSH scanning
Yeah lots of baddies using workers. I blocked cloudflare a long time ago because of workers.
