spawrks··on A Simple Guide to Calm UI
I hate to nitpick but the second is not calmed on Android. The first correct presents a modal center screen. The second pops up a modal low on the page, activates the keyboard, which then hides the modal behind the keyboard , losing context and forcing an awkward scroll. (To be fair Android keyboarding nuance sucks but might want to still fix it to make your point)
spawrks··on Show HN: Docx-to-Markdown – layout-aware Word to Markdown converter
This is great, working on a soon to launch Markdown editor soon so this is especially relevant. I'll play around with it later but I'm curious, how are you deciding pagination boundaries? I've found word and docx and various open source projects vary on philosophy and implementation.
spawrks··on Show HN: DriveSync – fast Git-styled Google Drive sync CLI
You're awesome, thank you!
spawrks··on Fable 5.1 Solves the Cyphral Distich, a 370-year-old cipher
Ok anyone else want to see Kryptos next? Am I the only one?
spawrks··on Don't call yourself an artisanal programmer
Isn't there a difference between making things that code does and the code itself? Ive seen truly beautiful software with terrible to follow but effective code and I've seen beautiful code that while technically amazing didn't do anything of substance. Software is like woodworking, it includes all levels of care and product outcomes.
spawrks··on Show HN: DriveSync – fast Git-styled Google Drive sync CLI
I appreciate the "no delete" starting point, but is there a way to override that if desired? I can see the workaround is to delete one side and sync so no big deal just curious
spawrks··on Casey Muratori – The Root of the Root of All Evil – BSC 2026 [video]
I feel like the comments that are giving you pushback haven't actually listened to Casey before. I agree with you, while opinionated his perspective is very pragmatic and misunderstood. He's done such a great job giving his experience out to the broader world too.
spawrks··on Show HN: Turn mineral collections into 3D virtual museums
Hey this is great, I love what the model looks like, would it be possible to change the light source direction? Excited to try it out more with some local fossils.
spawrks··on Show HN: Revealed – paint one image out of another (WebGL, no dependencies)
oooo I love this. I love how simple tricks can be perceptually gorgeous but computationally straightforward like this, just very nice job!

On thought I'm curious , have you thought about giving it memory?

If you regenerate noise every frame, it’s just decoration. If you advect the same noise field through the cursor’s velocity, the edge starts to feel like a material being pushed around. Same mask math, completely different perceptual result.

There’s a whole graphics literature around temporally coherent texture advection; this is a good rabbit hole: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21149889/

and the original post does a great job (also + for no dependencies) but if you want to see a good deeper explanation for the some fluid math with a much crappier demo this one is good:

spawrks··on Show HN: A techno machine in one HTML file, with verifiable renders
I love the single page treatment. Down with web frameworks! Sweet machine
spawrks··on Minimus Is Shutting Down
You dont have to trust a picture, they said so on the frontpage of their site in case you wanted to see if its real:

spawrks··on Ducklab – dev harness that built itself: 416 runs, $176, local models
"Most agentic coding tools assume one strong model and trust it. Ducklab assumes several cheap models and trusts none of them:"

I this. we need to move towards less dependencies only on frontier models and be more nuanced on smaller but useful AI's

spawrks··on Pixel 11 Pro Fold feels like the end of an era
Maybe they're running out of ideas. I'm also a fan of one hand theory, and this seems cyclic. Back in the day phone manufacturers also tried to expand this concept, so maybe it won't be long before they try to make the back of the phone be a screen again too, then realize people were fine with that. Not knocking a foldable if you like it just one hand preferred club representing here ;)
spawrks··on PostgreSQL for Everything
Or... Just use files for everything until you actually need a database. ( I know I'm going to get heat for saying that )
spawrks··on Does anyone find AI code review useful?
In my experience there is something beneficial about having a different context review and prompted differently, but it's not used very well in practice. Your previous context does create its own blind spot, but you're also getting at a problem in non AI reviews which is "what am I reviewing for?". Some companies like Google have traditionally had very tight guidelines for what a PR reviewer is supposed to criticize and what not to worry about, I don't think AI code review is much different on this topic
spawrks··on Comparing Qwen3.8 Max and Fable 5 on UI
I mean, isn't that fairly subjective in the same way human designers have been arguing about for decades though?
