Right now you're making the same kind of judgements of the boss as he is making of you.
As interesting as a story this is, is it really the only reason you chose to leave? Did you enjoy the work and did you try and negotiate at all? I don't mean to criticize your prioritization but the decision seems a little impulsive given how you described it. As you mentioned you gave your priorities a lot of thought, but what about the decision itself?
- doesn't take into account wacky sun hours in nordic countries during winter, I get around this by setting my location to be somewhere else
- isn't able to automatically detect when I'm playing a fullscreen videogame, when I would prefer it automatically switch off
"Screencoatening?"
Who cares if emojis can be used by every human? Bengali language support is something people actually need to to function normally in the digital age without jumping through a million hoops.
Emojis with skin tones are a joke.
I also used to be the guy to swear by Emacs and C, bitch about how awful Java and C++ are with all the crappy IDEs (despite never having tried them out, just reading articles and comments bashing them). Eventually I matured a little and tried both out, then tried a few IDEs like NetBeans, QtCreator, and PyCharm, and I actually prefer them now. If I had never broken out of the "hating circle" I would only be able to write programs in Lisp and C. Some of you may think that's fine, even preferable. Personally in retrospect I'm happy to have widened my horizons.
[0] This is from my own experience, I used to do that.
The MX518 for me at least lives on as the G400s. I used to own an MX518 and got the G400s recently and it's basically the same thing except with a better surface texture (and higher DPI? I don't really care since I always keep it on the lowest setting).
>What traditional cable based keyboards/mices and business notebooks with normal keys should one buy?
I use a ThinkPad T420 which would seem to be the last "traditional" ThinkPad. I mean it's clear it's already going in the direction of the newer laptops but this one still has the traditional keyboard while having up-to-date hardware otherwise. Hopefully by the time that becomes outdated there will be something worth buying on the market...
As for my desktop keyboard: IBM Model M, accept no substitutes.
That's a false analogy. Stallman has been fighting for our digital rights for ages and has actually been right most of the time. That doesn't make him right all the time, but it does make me more inclined to believe he isn't just spewing nonsense.
>IMO his ramblings about personal liberties and freedom being infringed by everything under the sun from Amazon to Google to Facebook are oversimplified and childish. The world isn't black and white and he obviously fails to understand the entire point behind many of these companies.
He has to be that way, because otherwise he would be seen as a hypocrite. It is interesting you think his arguments are "childish" when it seems every day more and more of his arguments are proven true when we find out how another company is using our data for malicious purposes.
>When Facebook makes you use a real name it's not because theres some "Mr. Evil" at the top level plotting to steal your freedom, it's because it leads to a better working social network.
You are correct in assuming that there is most likely no "Mr. Evil" at the top, however that assumes that ordinary good people aren't capable of collectively and unknowingly becoming "Mr. Evil" through their actions, which our knowledge of psychology would point out is more than likely.
I also avoid soft drinks like Coca-Cola because they produce an almost allergic reaction with my tongue (it aches for the rest of the day) though that might just be the preservatives. As a result I mostly stick to "vanilla" foods and drinks as I like to call them, like plain water and milk.
I might be wrong and still be getting too much unhealthy sugars and stuff from other food, but I'd like to think that it's not so severe since I live in Finland and not the US. I'm also slightly underweight so there's that, though I suspect that might be due to my genes. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm sort of glad they way things turned out in my case.

I guess you haven't used Ubuntu lately, which ships with better fonts than my Windows machine.
No kidding. I only noticed after it was over how much I was sweating. It was pretty powerful.

It's not even "if you download a poorly made extension your browser will be slower" but it seems like extensions have that effect in general. It's probably irrational but I've honestly seen a lot of the most popular extensions falling into this category, extensions like AdBlock and HTTPS Everywhere come to mind.

I agree, it really doesn't. Just look at Linus Torvalds for example. Some people asked him at a recent DebConf [0] what he thought of Debian and Linux distributions and his reply was basically "Oh I don't really care about distributions or systemd, I just wanna install it and get on with my life (i.e. the kernel)".
I don't see why people throw this around a lot, it really isn't. Most recent example I can remember is when Debian decided to remove NVIDIA drivers from Testing and you end up with a nonfunctional desktop [0].
