spaceheater··on China's 'Wukong' Hit Sells 10M Copies in Three Days
there are literally memes about it
spaceheater··on China's 'Wukong' Hit Sells 10M Copies in Three Days
It is popular because the devs posted that they were blackmailed by DEI consultants, and it blew up since most people are also fed up with it.
spaceheater··on JavaScript dates are about to be fixed
Was this blog post written by sonnet?
spaceheater··on Show HN: Plain Vanilla – a tutorial website for vanilla web development
Critic time. This site is more enterprise-vanilla. Like many others you have fallen to the trap of using any dom api feature, without stopping for a second and thinking, "Do I really need this? Does it actually make my life/code easier?" The answer is no. 26 lines of code to add a single avatar image with alt text? This should have been a 1 liner.

You don't have to use every feature out there. Getters that return 1 element that will never change. Splitting what should have been 1 style.css into 5 different files. Too many "best practices" for "complex" software.

spaceheater··on Node.js adds experimental support for TypeScript
Let's make it 94 then. I think typescript is an abomination forced by java developers that don't want to learn javascript.
spaceheater··on Ask HN: Best resources for learning desktop software development?
Are you rich? Because you will have 1000 more career options developing server/javascript, heck, even mobile apps.
spaceheater··on 8 days downtime: Cloudflare r2 subscription bug ruins my business
Why is this flagged? When cloudflare announces R2 there are hundreds comments praising their announcement-ad. Now that we get an actual review of what may happen, it gets flagged?
spaceheater··on Show HN: An open source extension to block large media brands from Google search
I wonder how the decline in personal blogs and websites (who even starts one today, when you can just be popular on youtube/twitter/instagram), affects rankings due to lack of websites linking to other websites.
spaceheater··on Learning from the object-oriented mania
So, like react.js right now?
spaceheater··on Stable Diffusion 3
fast.ai has a whole free course

spaceheater··on Stonelifting Etiquette
Cool website and notion, but, I mean, it's a fucking stone. There are like a billion of them, just laying around, older than all humans. I wish my life was this carefree. I will start my own stone lifting club, everyone is welcome, lift till you drop.
spaceheater··on Apple confirms iOS 17.4 removes Home Screen web apps in the EU
The only real reason to use PWA so far was access to Web Push Notifications on iOS, which likely to stop working altogether. If you fork $99 to apple, you may be able to use "Safari Push Notifications". Maybe one of their 600 new apis will allow Chrome to show notifications?
spaceheater··on There's More Proof That Return to Office Is Pointless
It's worse than bitcoin (maybe it's posted by the same people), we have moved from weekly RTO threads to daily. ridiculous.
spaceheater··on I used to not worry about climate change. Now I do [video]
Didn't like the whole world stop during covid? It should be equivalent to 50-100 years of climate activism, and what? didn't even make a dent?
spaceheater··on Hacking into an insurance company by exploiting their premium calculator
You are either young or don't know any better. All major companies have bug bounties program and consistently, every few weeks, payout CRITICAL level bounties, as in attacker managed to get full server/access to any account etc. Security breaches are just a matter of time. Who is to blame is debatable, since being a criminal and breaking and stealing (into digital or physical business) is against the law.
spaceheater··on The back-to-office backfire: Companies ending WFH perks lose out on top talent
I mean, every 2-3 weeks there is top story on hn about how returning back to office is evil, and the same comments about how working from home gave those people a whole new meaning and fulfillment in life. This must be an ad, right?

spaceheater··on Stack Overflow Moderation Strike Update
Is this the consequence of having entitled moderators for years, only now instead of powering over random users they finally turned against their creators?
spaceheater··on The Nova Kakhovka Hydroelectric dam in Ukraine has been blown open
US 'cannot say conclusively' what happened in dam breach - Kirby

Yeah right. lol. And that is a clear signal that Ukraine was behind it. But as always the warmongers will try 4d chess to convince you Russia did it, like it blew nord stream, attacked crimea bridge, and shot missiles into Poland.

spaceheater··on Tech bosses are letting dictators censor what Americans see
If you are in the US better be careful or else you would charged with `malign influence campaign` by the land of the free government.

spaceheater··on My Tungsten Cube (2019)
Yeah, unfortunate. I also toy with the idea of buying one, only to find the price ever increasing.
spaceheater··on Google testing ChatGPT-like chatbot 'Apprentice Bard' with employees
So can ChatGPT and a QA team that feeds it the bugs it found, replace the development team?
spaceheater··on Ask HN: Is TypeScript worth it?
The whole shtick (and beauty) of Javascript is that it is a dynamic language. In some point in time corporate Java people started using JS, and now we have this : "is well understood that static typing is a good thing". It's not. But as always you have a vocal minority, influencers and evangelists shouting their BS, about how TypeScript has terraformed theirs lives and they can't imagine life without it.

Use your head, if you don't like TS, don't use it.

spaceheater··on Russians hit the office and R&D center of Samsung in Kyiv
Honestly, I have no idea when and where this picture is from. And for the sake of argument let's say both sides use such tactics. However this does answer the question: "Why playgrounds and parks are targeted"

spaceheater··on Gas Leak in the Baltic Sea
Those who have something to lose would not have done it (aka the countries that need the gas, or the country that provides it). Poland is a very interesting idea, since even if they are caught, they are the ones providing the gas to Europe now, and refusing to deal with them is not an option.
spaceheater··on President Putin has announced a partial mobilization in Russia
Those reports are reluctantly corroborated by the west[0], although it seems you are more interested in bad faith communication with snarky remarks, to each their own.

spaceheater··on 4.2 Gigabytes, Or: How to Draw Anything
At bare minimum I can think of the 3D space the character is in, and rotate and shift it to any location and position I can dream of, even if I have never seen it before. When we will have 3D aware AI, that would be interesting.
spaceheater··on 4.2 Gigabytes, Or: How to Draw Anything
How much of it is it `painting` though? It looks like your typical startup, combine two ideas into one. (Image) Search engine + Photoshop. You enter some prompts, it searches it's database for matches, and meshes all found results into a single visually pleasing image. Can it draw something that is not a mesh or a variation of it's database? Can you?
spaceheater··on Risk Everything (2007)
Or, this was just a bad plan. They got lucky, the next bunch not so much.
