someonebaggy··on Pixel 11 doesn't yet meet the GrapheneOS security standards and may be skipped
Corporations learned they have to get in bed with regulators first, and how to do it.
someonebaggy··on Web Search API
The last sentence is certainly true. Lazy bots you can block yourself and don't really need CF to help with.
someonebaggy··on Tell HN: Uceprotect is extorting website owners
You probably have standing to sue Orange for damages if they're blocking your customers from you based on bullshit criteria.

I am not a lawyer, so consult one.

someonebaggy··on Tell HN: Uceprotect is extorting website owners
All of the spam blocklists are like this.

At one time quite recently, Cloudflare was on Spamhaus's "Don't Route Or Peer" list. Imagine where the world would be if anyone cared about that list.

But if an entire ISP is blocking you based on UCEPROTECT, which is designed for email spam filters - are you sure? An ISP that blocked all of DO would get so many complaints and be open to so much legal liability. Usually these are only used for email filtering.

someonebaggy··on Apple and a hacker's future
If it's really a Hole Hawg, you run as root, or at least passwordless sudo.
someonebaggy··on The era of software quality, or the era of ostriches?
Everything coming from GNOME about software quality should be taken with a Strategic Petroleum Reserve of salt.

While other projects rewrite things in memory-safe ways, GNOME's response is to ask a chatbox if there are any memory vulnerabilities.

someonebaggy··on We want you to build the next Git platform on Cloudflare
In other words, you wish Google had EEE'd email. And also stopped supporting normal emails between two Gmail users, and completely redesigned the product.

You think this wouldn't get people who just wanted email to quit Gmail and use something else instead?

If you could attach or insert a wave into an email, that would make more sense.

someonebaggy··on Improper redaction reveals Google Data Center water and electricity usage
If built out. A single DC of this scale is driving Oracle, a giant company, so bankrupt their bonds have been downgraded to junk status and they're claiming force majeure to get out of paying their debts.
someonebaggy··on Web Search API
These bots don't reply to replies, only to posts, randomly.

Workers is their version of Lambda
someonebaggy··on Web Search API
Cloudflare doesn't block bots. It's trivial to use residential proxies and your very obvious bot will only get blocked maybe 5% of the time when using rotating IPs.

I saw 20x and even higher. Where did you get 1.6x?
someonebaggy··on Make Tmux the OS
Someone can write a script to do that and it will make zero difference whether the script accesses the music through something called a filesystem, or something completely different.
someonebaggy··on The Escalation of War in Ethiopia
Our governments, in our countries, are stealing our money and using it to buy a holocaust.
someonebaggy··on Barcodes are about to go extinct
And Discord and Matrix and WhatsApp and Signal and XMPP (only for nerds) and Reticulum (only for real nerds) and ...

There isn't an email-shaped slot in society that was being filled by email. The shape of society has changed and email doesn't really fill a slot any more. We have a WhatsApp-shaped slot and a Discord-shaped slot now though.

someonebaggy··on What is going on with ceiling fans
You should be using constant-current drivers if you want a bit more stability.
someonebaggy··on Europe's new robotics unicorn: Germany's RobCo hits $1B valuation
aaS means you don't even rent them, you just pay someone to come and lay a certain number of bricks by any means necessary.

Airplane engine manufacturers retain ownership of their engines, and sell kilonewton-hours to airlines.

someonebaggy··on Germany’s RobCo hits $1B valuation
Evil often wins and makes a lot of money. Also effective if your target audience is evil billionaires with brain rot.

this one doesn't sound that evil though? Just a simple portmanteau that may not sound as stupid in German?

someonebaggy··on What is going on with ceiling fans
Have you tried replacing the LEDs or have you just assumed it's impossible because it's not a bulb?
someonebaggy··on What is going on with ceiling fans
Does the design actually stop you from replacing the parts or is it just more difficult than plugging in a power plug?
someonebaggy··on What is going on with ceiling fans
Systems built of separate parts instead of LED light bulbs made as lightbulbs. LED strips and LED drivers.
someonebaggy··on What is going on with ceiling fans
You can replace parts that don't come in nice detachable sockets.

Lightbulbs came in sockets because they were meant to fail. First by accident, later intentionally. They were also quite breakable because they were made of glass. LED lights don't have these problems unless they're designed to. Which is the meta-problem - how do you know which ones are planned obsolete?

Forcing an LED system into a lightbulb from factor has quality and cost implications though. A good LED light has a separate power brick inside the enclosure. Which is what you see in these fan lights.

someonebaggy··on Court agrees with EFF: Utah's VPN law demands a technical impossibility
"The laws of mathematics are very commendable, but the only law that applies in Australia is the law of Australia." - Malcolm Turnbull, Prime Minister (at the time) of Australia

also the whole point of having .el is to be outside US jurisdiction so the US can't mess with their domains except for cutting off the whole country (which would splinter the internet).

You can use different codes to specify what the page contains. Airlines support more meal codes than they actually stock because meals for multiple categories - every VGML (vegan) meal is valid for someone who requests VOML (vegetarian with eggs and milk allowed). And every page with no human skin showing is valid for someone whose filtering rules are no skin except the face!
someonebaggy··on Court agrees with EFF: Utah's VPN law demands a technical impossibility
There's no such thing. None of the current giants were first-generation.
someonebaggy··on Court agrees with EFF: Utah's VPN law demands a technical impossibility
You need to do a DNS lookup to find the ECH key though.
someonebaggy··on Court agrees with EFF: Utah's VPN law demands a technical impossibility
Doesn't it? I don't post on HN about smoking weed (that's self-censorship) but there are other places where you can post about it.
someonebaggy··on Court agrees with EFF: Utah's VPN law demands a technical impossibility
There's basically no country that hasn't done at least one holocaust in recent history. They happen wayyyyyy more than you'd think. We just don't care about most of them. It's the same reason almost all politicians support Israel - nothing that's happening there is different from anything they want to do or have done in their own countries.
