sollawen··on US Blocks SSL Security Certificates for Iran's Fars News Agency
I think simply blocking the SSL certificate isn’t enough. The proper approach would be to block the DNS for the domain name of Iran’s Fars News Agency, so that people around the world can’t access their website at all.

That would Make America Great Again!

American, you know, they care about AI, chips, and Ukraine ......
sollawen··on Hot take: Success in life is mostly due to luck (2023)
I agree that the circumstances we are born into are largely outside our control.

I may not have expressed my own point clearly: I’m not saying that luck lies in our decisions. I’m saying that our decisions themselves are not entirely under our conscious control. Our genetic makeup influences our dispositions and choices, and we often don’t even understand why we are inclined to choose one thing over another.

So my broader point is that luck is not the result of anything we consciously choose to do, including whether or not we work hard. Whether an outcome turns out to be fortunate or unfortunate is not something we can choose or change through conscious effort.

Maybe I'm being a bit too pessimistic here?

sollawen··on Hot take: Success in life is mostly due to luck (2023)
When I was young, I always thought that success was due to my own efforts, while failure was the result of poor planning or wrong decisions.

But many years later, I realized that all successes and failures are actually determined by genetic factors.

Almost all of our decisions and choices are, in the end, determined by our genes. In other words, genes determine our choices, and our choices determine whether things will be successful or fail.

sollawen··on The lost golden age of language diversity
Actually, I don’t think language diversity is a good thing. When humans tried to build the Tower of Babel, God thought it was terrifying for humans to unite and work together toward a common goal. So, He granted humans the ability to speak different languages. As a result, humans became divided into groups that ignored and disliked each other, leading to wars.

So, language diversity isn’t necessarily a good thing for humans.

But I think American drivers probably don’t care about these things.
sollawen··on Show HN: I built a native macOS terminal with Git integration in 5 days
Is there anything particularly outstanding about this compared to the Ghostty I’m using now?
sollawen··on AI coding is a nightmare. Am I the only one experiencing this?
Couldn't agree more. Honestly, I don't believe in 'loop engineering' after working with AI these past few months, I've seen a lot of its decisions are really unreliable — and if you let it loop-engineer all night long, it's definitely going to leave you a pile of shit.

Wait, hold on. So you're telling me that Anthropic is out there hyping their newest, most powerful LLM like crazy... but really it's just a token-selling scheme?

mostly I am using GLM5, with miniMax-3 to do some easy work.
