snoldak924··on Why does unsubscribing from a newsletter take “a few days”?
At my company, we prepare one-off marketing and legal email blasts in advance, and need the final recipient list a couple days before sending. This allows time for processing the list for opt-outs, duplicates, etc.
snoldak924··on Soylent’s Next Chapter
Looks like it was just an older bag of soylent. http://www.irishtimes.com/polopoly_fs/1.2729676.1469108251!/...
snoldak924··on Disney acquires own streaming facilities, will pull Netflix content
10 years ago everyone wanted a la carte cable. I guess this is it? Makes sense that it would be just as bad as bundled channels.
snoldak924··on Show HN: A minimalistic cloud provider
How is this differentiated from Digital Ocean?
snoldak924··on Make a Samsung Smartphone Great by Switching Out Its Apps
At this point it is quite clear that OEMs only put these apps on consumer's devices to make a profit, and that there is no eye towards the affect on the product.

The bigger question is, why do the carriers want so badly for me to use their NFL app?

snoldak924··on Inside the Power Plant Fueling America’s Drought
Yet that water will be turned into salt water, making it pretty much useless.
snoldak924··on The Danger of Financial Jargon
This is incredibly true. In programming, just as in construction, "jargon" is required to keep things concise and to the point. Many times this "obfuscation" is really just necessity.

7 miles across, but full of hills and cars.
snoldak924··on London Taxi Challenge
Another instance of "anecdata."

snoldak924··on WTF Delaware?
If you open it in IE, it asks to display insecure content. If you click yes, the site works. (You can click buttons).

They must have linked a .js that wasn't on a https.

snoldak924··on Ask HN: Only 19 days until Christmas - so where is the "new" Mac Pro?
I don't think it really qualifies for "gift" status.
snoldak924··on Friends and Family Funding and Why I'm Dreading Thanksgiving
I think it depends on the difference between an "investment" and a "gift." Similar to loan vs. grant.
snoldak924··on How 10 people built a competitor to Amazon.com for $1 million—in 90 days
How is there no web interface?
snoldak924··on Want people to trust you? Try apologising for the rain
That's exactly what I thought when I read the article. I'm not quite sure how that was missed during the design of the experiment.
snoldak924··on To Hell with Backups
I have a hard time believing the magnet story, but that is tangential to the story.

I've used SugarSync for a couple years, and Mozy before that. I literally never think about my backups, except when I get a new computer and download from the cloud. Total cost: under $80/year.

I'm not sure what's so hard about that, but apparently backups need to be "easier".

snoldak924··on Pathogen from gut of obese human causes obesity in germfree mice
This is how the zombie outbreak starts...

snoldak924··on Show HN: Fight bias with Details Redacted
Maybe turn it into a SaaS API? Sort of like a XSS-filter but just for pronouns.
snoldak924··on Ask HN: What are your side projects? 9/12
Working on http://rushtap.com, trying to turn it from a side project into a bigger side project.
snoldak924··on Show HN: RushTap - Greek Recruitment Management
In case it wasn't clear, Greek=Fraternity
snoldak924··on Mini-server at home, any good hardware options other than Mac Mini?
I think Apple may be updating the mini this fall, so I'd wait a month or two if possible. http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#Mac_Mini
snoldak924··on Go Daddy acquires Outright.com
Well, that makes my decision easier. Definitely going with Wave Accounting.
snoldak924··on Spotify is a Certified Pandora-Killer
uh, no.
snoldak924··on Spam = 40% of social media accounts
Yes, but what percentage of email is spam? Probably higher than 40%. Gmail accounts are much easier to setup than facebook accounts (which require email accounts).
