smokelegend··on A cheap radio hack disrupted Poland's railway system
And yet the outdated, unsecured 2G protocol/hardware still exists in 2023, is it really a question as to why it's still in operation.

The way I see it, seems law enforcement agencies using stingrays have a vested interesting in seeing 2G alive and well.

smokelegend··on Police are not primarily crime fighters, according to the data
Well said!

That's a critical point in the discussion, this is a job is a voluntary occupation. Nobody forced them to take the position.

At anytime they can quit and find other employment, but all it seems to often that most are complacent and complicit in the terms of their employment. Boss says do this, this and that, and they do it lockstep.

There should be more discussion on the policy and procedures they use. i.e. "broken windows policy", "stop and frisk policy", "Tuesdays & Thursday" [ I have experienced this one personally, in New York city there is a known tactic that nyc police undercover (plain clothes officers) would stalk the streets harassing citizens in the name of crime prevention[Washington Heights, which is north of Harlem], and if you're darker skin, or just in a irradiated mood for being harassed weekly by these "crime stoppers", you can find yourself in handcuffs, and the drama that follows it.]

Again there are lots of people who say " but, but the police are there to protect you" or "if your not doing anything wrong you have nothing to be afraid of" when the cold hard truth is, it's selective enforcement of laws and selective outrage on "blue crime" that creates these false narratives. Case in point, the policing in Witchta, KA is different from Las Vegas, NV or Los Angeles, CA or NYC. But those differences do not green light racist or elitist policy that protect chosen few communities and while systematically injuring the majority of the other communities. [i.e. Greenwich Village vs. Harlem NYC, this is small atom of the picture of disfunction that is NYC, that I am trying to relate.]

Respect for your fellow human should be transparent and universal, Dr. King's speech "I have a dream" is achievable, but we're not there yet.

I often wonder if it's capitalism in the US that keeps Dr. Kings dream just that a dream...

smokelegend··on TikTok Owner Had 'Backdoor' for CCP Access to US Data, Lawsuit Alleges
Thought experiment,

Anyone every consider making a social media site/app like fb, tiktok, insta, twitter, where the user can control the algo, and or have sum input of the algo, in so much that the user can "control" what they see, still have ads [company gets paid] but the user can control those ads to a certain degree...[sort of like brave browser][but for social media]

Just wondering, not saying data collection is good, but perhaps, if it were more transparent and interactive, people would be more accepting to using and capitalizing on their own data. Value for value, the user gets to decide what data to share, and the company gets to push ads based on known algorithm unique to each user's approved data metrics... perhaps this already exists???

Is this a pipedream? Or a yes, yes, "if you build it, they will come" life changing moment? I need to know, it is important I change my outfit if it's the latter, athletic shorts and a tshirt, (in my opinion) don't convene much confidence when shopping around for angel investors... ;)

smokelegend··on Apple’s 2½ year old iPhone 12 is 6% faster than the new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
Silly apple boys, android has been doing wireless charging for years....

It's shyte like this that makes me giggle at the Apple boys and girls they swear up an down when Apple does something android does its "revolutionary" for all... fuck out of here wit that shyte.

Despite what some may think, there are more Android developers [Hardware/Software] then apple developers in this world. That is why Android will always be ahead of the game regardless what Apple does.

Old wise tail: You can polish a turd with bells and whistles, however it's still a turd no matter how you present it. Fin.

smokelegend··on Apple’s 2½ year old iPhone 12 is 6% faster than the new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
One could make the argument that Apple has to have something that Android doesn't... a faster cpu?

This doesn't mean that Android needs to have the fastest cpu, because they can do more with the resources they have better then Apple does.

Wireless charging android phone to android phone, done. Wireless charging your headphone case from your Android phone, done.

Want to plug in a hard drive, ssd, ide, cd-rom, 3.5inchers, printer, keyboard, mouse, monitor, done, done, done, it all gets done on android.

You see I care more about functionality/utility them cpu speed.

And as others have pointed out battery life is still the most critical priority....because who cares how fast your frame rates are if you can only play for 15min before running the battery dead...

Next 5yrs the battery technology for these handheld devices will be insane. Imagine not charging your phone for a week....

Cough cough Walmart....

Employees are working yet still they need government assistance to offset the low wages. Walmart knows this and one might argue they incorporate in their business planning. Why pay employees to work full time, when you can pay them part time, reduce your labor costs and have the state pick up the rest of the expenses (i.e. medicare, Foodstamps)

Walmart executive's know this is a win/win for them, they get the labor they need and pay little for it. This is not something that just happened overnight. It's corporate greed on a massive scale that hurts everyone but no one cares because Wallstreet see's the profits rolling in.

Deceptive businesses like Walmart are consistently fucking us all, and nothing is done about it. The tax breaks they receive are enabling this behavior.

End rant.

smokelegend··on Names of Canada truck convoy donors leaked after reported hack
14-16hrs? Seems a bit weak.

How about 24hrs? Now that's torture, or as we Americans like to claim "enhanced interrogation"... [Enemy combatants were exposed to sensory deprivation which included 24hrs of American heavy metal music and 24hrs of flood spotlights to prevent sleeping.]

I get it, after living peacefully before these protests started it might appear as torture, however it is again just annoying behavior not torture. As mentioned by other comments, ear plugs are a thing, sleeping pills could help, glass of warm milk perhaps.

You have options in this scenario, unlike when you are being physically tortured, you have no options but to endure.

"Well he's dead so....." that is the most epic/telling statement I believe Bill Gates has every made.

Gates comments on Epstein on NPR, I don't have a link, but Google and YouTube have the details.

Gates another question for you, what's with all the farmland you now own in the US? The world doesn't need another Monsanto's. Seems fishy! Somethings afoot with that. Farming is not that profitable, so what's his interest in it?

smokelegend··on PinePhone Pro Announced
4GB mem.....? Really 4GB? That's it?

Would it really have been that bad to at least offer a 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB Memory upgrade.

Just feels like a huge let down. I get it the price of electronics(i.e. memory) is more expensive, but this makes it look like a joke in comparison with other "phones".

And if it were marketed as a mini computer 4GB of ram isn't saying much. Hexacore processor, 128GB Emmc storage awesome but then I read 4GB of ram and it's like a smack in the face. If this is to be a "flagship" for years to come, I'm really disappointed they went with limited memory.

Would I pay $699 instead of $399 for more memory... yeah I would

Seriously Fuck Massachusetts!

Justice seems to have taken a step backwards, another appeal should set this straight.

I would like to think the federal court of appeals will bann this practice. If you can't teach a kid w/ autism with out a taser, you shouldn't be teaching. Wtf...
