smokelegend··on What if a pill can change your politics or religious beliefs?
Congrats kid you went into a k-hole.

As mind blowing as you think that was, IMHO its nothing like the experience of candy-flipping...(MDMA+LSD)

Remember all things in moderation, I have lived to tell the tale, although I can't remember what tale I'm supposed to tell.

smokelegend··on Room-Temperature Superconductivity Achieved for the First Time
This is a major life altering question. If we can't learn to all live together peacefully, learn to help each other solve problems here on earth; what makes anyone think that we will survive in space & beyond...

I love everything about space exploration, but I'm not naive enough to believe its the solution to our problems here on earth. One might argue its a distraction from our ongoing global humanitarian crisis.

People everyday are dying from lack of food, water, shelter, etc...

What time & money is spent on solving the galaxies mysteries, could be brain power backed capital used to solve our dire terrestrial affairs. IMHO...

Food for thought...

Sorry, but you don't seem to understand why crack was made.

It's not because it's easier to ship, it's because you can double or triple your money...

Example... 1 kilo raw coke...40k [US price] cook that same 1 kilo into crack and now you have 3 kilos of crack that you can easily make 100k or more off in the street

The drug it's self, in crack form, is 10x more addictive then powdered cocaine. The user experience of a "high" only last for a few minutes, side effect being users use the product faster. This is why it's a lucrative market for gangs and street dealers. If you hold territory to distribute your product, you increase your revenue. Cash is what every dealer wants, product is what ever user wants. Supply and demand effects.

Don't know why some may believe people make crack because "it's easier to transport"... no, no its not, especially when you consider liquid cocaine. Yes cartels smuggle liquid cocaine![1]

It's about money.

Cartels have billions & billions of US dollars to spend, they spend big money on R & D too.[2][3]

Think you might be mistakenly mixed up device to cloud speed vs device to device speed.

I think it states 500mb cap for device to device comms. That's a decent pipe for comms.

smokelegend··on Giggle; Laughable Security
I saw this unfold on infosec twitter, the CEO really dropped the ball on handling this incident professionally.

The security researcher did nothing wrong here [IMHO], they tried to report a security flaw in the app. CEO got pissed, took it as a attack personally instead of thinking of the responsibility of users safety on the app. (All the while promoting her app as a safe place for users to share sensitive information.[i.e. photos, DOB, address, phone number, GPS location).

Sad to see this type of response; the CEO has a lot to learn from this situation about security for users and how to deal with security researchers.

Live n learn...

smokelegend··on Drug cartel assassinates its enemies with bomb-toting drones
Think a lot of these comments don't take into consideration how cheap these drones can be made, especially if you have add a 3D printer into the mix.

Printing the air frame is a huge cost saver.

Cheap motors are everywhere, plenty of places to scavenge tiny hobby motors (doesn't have to fly super fast or lift 2000 grams)

Cheap arduino's for brains and motor control, not much to it.

You can get away with having a tiny lipo battery for powering the motors since it's a one way trip for the drone anyways...

With the right choice of materials you could get a drone BOM down to $100-150 [not included transmitter remote control] Needless to say, having a cartel budget you can really pump up production to few 100 a week if needed....

Making sumthing that's going to be used for a one way trip isn't hard, when your objective is to make a impact on target.

This is the new battlefield.

PCP, dippers(cigarettes dipped in PCP liquid solution), loveboat (powdered PCP sprinkled on a weed blunt) is still a huge issue in urban US city's.

The effects vary per individual but the higher the dosage the more psychoactive effects are felt. I've seen a naked guy take on 8 DC cops....yes 8 police officers, and after being tased 3 times the guy finally went down.(first two attempts didn't take) But he was tossing grown 200-300lbs adult men like they were paper weights. The amount of force it took those officers to over come this one person on PCP was insane. Definitely not something you want to run into.

smokelegend··on Transcribed police scanners in real-time
Not true, police communications can be a gold mine of information sometimes.

Name, address, date of birth, social security number, identifying features i.e. height, weight, hair color, etc.

Don't underestimate how valuable this information can be.

Not to mention the movements of police resources and personnel.

All said published over the wire, anyone can hear with the right hardware/software.

smokelegend··on YouTube Demonetises Naomi Wu a.k.a. SexyCyborg
This is another video she's had striked by yt. Sad, she's a great content creator and smart lady.

After Namoi's demoralizing experience with vice media and make mag; there seems to be a backlash campaign against her.

She doesn't deserve this negative image for existing in the "modern" world.

I'm not the best at this Linux foo, but wouldn't aliasing certain commands that you need be helpful?

I mean if your going to go through the hassle of looking up that certain command, might as well make it easier on future you to alias that foo while you have it fresh in you mind.

Note, if you get caught at these high speeds on public roads, you will be arrested and vehicle impounded. Most of the time police officers will draw their weapons when making vehicle stops of this nature. Most state laws have a zero tolerance policy for vehicles exceeding 90mph on public roads.

Hardware debouncing works well for most applications but may not be financially rewarding at scale. With time and effort software debouncing can render sometimes better/good or good enough results as hardware..

Having worked on Wall Street, it essentially boils down to public/private businesses and financial institutions/firms/banks/exchanges are considered "Wall Street"...

They have their own language and culture that exhorts greed and profit above humanity and peace. ie. "Wolf of WallStreet"...

smokelegend··on A hacker's mom broke into a prison and the warden's computer
I think this is a understatement... Every US prison/jail/detention center has a "pay-to-play" program administered by profit driven private companies who (IMU) overcharge for these basic services. $5.99 a minute is outrageous! I feel like these companies are allowed to prey on the most vulnerable people and no one cares because there not what society considers "good people".

smokelegend··on California bans private prisons
How does that work exactly when the crime is against a plant you use for personal medical reasons. Love it or hate it, medical weed is cheaper and easier to produce then most opioid alternatives. [i.e. morphine, codeine, oxytocin, etc.] And its safer to produce, process, and distribute to end users [consumers]. So grandma gets a felony conviction because she grew her medical weed in her backyard garden and now has 10-15yrs of her life wasted in a prison cell... How exactly does the math of justice add that up? Grandma grew 20 plants because she wanted to make her medicine and have enough left over to make some edible cookies... Grandma's of America union doesn't exist, grandma is left to the mercy of a corrupt justice systems that mandates minimum federal sentencing guidelines regardless of a defendants circumstances. The math doesn't add up, it's cruel punishment and unfair treatment of the law. I mean if grandma had a meth lab then yeah she deserves to "due the time" but for weed, no one should go to jail for weed... it's a complete waste of tax money..IMHO
smokelegend··on California bans private prisons
I strongly agree, the u.s. criminal justice system needs a overhaul of zealous prosecutors who want to threaten non-violent offenders with felony convictions just to make a name for themselves. Greed is still the primary motive, a young prosecutor knows they can command a 6 or 7 figure salary in the private sector if the have a substantial amount of convictions under their belt. Yes, private prisons are bad, yes prison guard unions and police unions are bad, but prosecutors are equally guilty of the same greed and profit driven motivation... when was the last time you heard a story of a former prosecutor getting unemployment insurance or food stamp assistance? I'll wait...
