Great! Let's go back to actual applications.
DOM is highly intertwined with JavaScript, so that wouldn't be possible.
Actually, Electron wraps an entire browser, except for its UI part.
What's the problem? Modern web browsers are already dumbed down, now you want web pages to be dumbed down too?
Google doesn't need Mozilla to increase their search marketshare. People who care about privacy switch to things such as DuckDuckGo. When Firefox had Yahoo as the default search engine, many users switched back to Google.
Google wants browsers to be like OSes, because they can't directly compete with desktop OSes. This concept is incompatible with security and privacy, so Google's interests are more harmful (they fund Mozilla).
Granular permissions don't solve the privacy issue, because denying them contributes to fingerprinting. Also, JIT compilers violate W^X.
Reverting anti-adblocker changes doesn't require that many resources.
Google doesn't even need Mozilla to increase/maintain their search market share. When Firefox's default search engine was changed to Yahoo! in the U.S., many users switched back to Google [1]. Also, people who care about privacy use things such as DuckDuckGo anyway.
