smbv··on I'm a security engineer and I still almost got scammed
This post was second-chanced and the timestamp was moved ahead, so this was the first post, the second post arrived, then this one got the timestamp moved forward from the second chance pool.

smbv··on Ask HN: Share your personal site
It might get buried under all of the other comments, but I write stuff occasionally on my website

Some of the articles are on HN and have gotten a pretty good reception.

smbv··on Why is the red primary color oriented at 104° on a vectorscope?
I remember for a CTF (I think PicoCTF?) we had to demodulate an image from sound using SSTV. This gave me a little more understanding of how that worked!

smbv··on I don't need a VPS anymore
Cool blog, is there an RSS feed available anywhere?
smbv··on Ask HN: Is HN changing the submission dates of certain posts?
I didn't realize the timestamps change for second chance posts. Thanks!
smbv··on Argbash: Bash argument parsing code generator
Is this project still maintained?
smbv··on Photography is not Objective, Art is a Set of Choices
I would recommend subscribing to the RSS feed: all of the articles are frankly superb.

smbv··on Photography is not Objective, Art is a Set of Choices
It's been the same argument for more than a hundred years now. Just because art is more accessible to create doesn't mean it's worse.
smbv··on How to pay professional maintainers

smbv··on Fermat Attack on RSA
> For security purposes, the integers p and q should be chosen at random and should be similar in magnitude but differ in length by a few digits to make factoring harder.

smbv··on Escaping privileged containers for fun
I use AppArmour and use Podman rootless for everything that needs to be containerized so it's all good for me anyway :)

Fun read! Maybe put an RSS button somewhere so it's easier to subscribe to?

smbv··on Woodpecker (Drone community fork) v0.15.0 released
Thanks to the Woodpecker team for making an Open-Source CI that's not a nightmare to deploy (I'm looking at you, Concourse)
smbv··on I'm so sorry everyone. Or: why I'm switching to Cloudflare
Yep, it creates a link with a code, then proceeds to ask me to "sign in on the web" but does not give me an option to sign up. In the Youtube videos, there's a button to "sign up" but not for me. I've tried with multiple browsers on multiple machines on multiple networks.
smbv··on I'm so sorry everyone. Or: why I'm switching to Cloudflare
I have tried, but I'm not 18 yet, so I can't use privacy.com or set up donations through Liberapay.
smbv··on I'm so sorry everyone. Or: why I'm switching to Cloudflare
Yeah, but using DNS only requires me to open a port, which is what I can't do.
smbv··on I'm so sorry everyone. Or: why I'm switching to Cloudflare
I might add a donate button but I doubt anyone will use it. As for static site hosting, I'm not only using static stuff. I have services like FreshRSS that won't run on a static site.

> There are many other services I am running (web-based IRC bouncer TheLounge, FreshRSS, and Keycloak, just to name a few) that won't be receptive to be run on Github Pages or whatever.

smbv··on I'm so sorry everyone. Or: why I'm switching to Cloudflare
That's not good! It's working for me and I'm running the server...

Maybe it's something on your end? I've checked the site on online services, three different networks and two different devices.

smbv··on I'm so sorry everyone. Or: why I'm switching to Cloudflare
Honestly, I'm just looking for something I can run Wireguard on to proxy my traffic. It doesn't matter if it's ARM or not, what really matters is the public IP (IPv6 would be super cool) and lots of bandwidth.
smbv··on I'm so sorry everyone. Or: why I'm switching to Cloudflare
I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

smbv··on Alternative DNS Roots
DoH does not depend on a browser! Try this out with cURL

    curl --http2 -H 'accept: application/dns-json' "https://1.1.1.1/dns-query?name=cloudflare.com" --next --http2 -H 'accept: application/dns-json' "https://1.1.1.1/dns-query?name=example.com"
There are DoH resolvers[0] that you can use that act as a "middleman" between your browser (configured to use a standard DNS server) and DoH (which is more secure and private)

smbv··on Gitea Is Joining the Fediverse
Is it really soulless? It seems like it solves a real problem: many Gitea instances are very small. The devs are passionate about their work and they are all working toward improving the software. So what if it's a copycat? GitHub could be argued to be a copycat of SourceForge. Gitea/forgefriends offers new features and improvements over GitHub. Gitea is as useful as GitHub for hosting a git repo with a web interface, but the federation aspect makes Gitea also a social site (much like GitHub).

As for the logo, the line in the middle is the "string" for the tea bag. It is a different size because the actual logo is not part of the string, so the distinction must be made.

> This is woke IT, as long as it is decentralised it is somehow better than other software no matter how crapy the UX.

As someone who has used Gitea in the past, it is wonderful for it's goal of running a Git server with a webUI. Don't knock it until you've tried it.

> And please don't tell me it is open source software and I can contribute something, like I have time for that. Just take my money and shut up instead of, you know, using my tax money for stuff I don't care about. Thanks for listing to my TED talk.

If you're not willing to work toward fixing something, then stop complaining about it.

smbv··on Ask HN: How to build a light weight personal blog?
+1 for Grav: I've deployed it on my server and interact with it using the admin page and the git integration. It's simple and easily customizable, unlike WordPress. The main appeal of Grav, to me, is the hackability and ease of management compared to other CMS's. With a proper caching system, Grav is as fast as an SSG.
smbv··on Recovering a PostgreSQL database after a hard drive failure
